Just another member of the Adventurers Guild

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Day

Three weeks passed quickly. Finn and Darwin had more time than expected to prepare and train before their departure with Rodrick. During these weeks, Finn noticed a rapid and very noticeable change in his body, something that seemed unreal to him, but Cristel explained that this was due to his anima, which, with healing potions, allows him to heal his muscles and constantly improve them without hurting himself at all.

Two days ago, Rodrick had arrived in the capital, sending them a letter stating that in three days they would leave on their mission during the night, that is, tonight.

At 6:00 a.m., Finn woke up, clutching his chest. A constant pang in his chest had woken him up again. This was something that had been happening constantly for a few weeks. At first, it was only mild, but over time, the pangs became stronger and more continuous.

Finn got out of bed, rubbing his chest. These stabbing pains were strange to him. Despite the pain he felt for a few moments, he had no trouble continuing with his daily routine. After inhaling and exhaling for a few seconds, the stabbing pain subsided, allowing Finn to calm down as well and head to the bathroom, where he looked closely at himself in the mirror.

"If I had known before that I could get into this shape in just a few weeks, I would have trained a long time ago" Finn said in front of the mirror, flexing his muscles. 'It's simply unreal... but like Cristel said, I'm no longer an ordinary human like the civilians' Finn thought, getting ready to leave.

Many of Finn's questions about his training and how his body could develop so quickly had been answered by Cristel, who told him that all of this was possible because of his anima, which enriches his body with its wielding magic, enhancing it, healing it, and making it surpass the common levels of a normal human or civilian who had never used magic.

Before leaving his room, Finn put on his bracer, quickly opening the status screen and checking his status with a slight smile of approval.

"Cristel and Amelia were right. I needed to train my body. In just three weeks, I was able to increase my stats again and even got a UP… That means I'm doing well with my anima, right?" Finn wondered, seeing that he had finally refined his anima a bit and was already somewhat compatible with it. He then looked at the bracer. "This thing hasn't been updated since we got it, but according to what Roger told me, it'll be updated next week with new features. Let's hope they're good."

At 7:00, Finn went down to the reception desk, noticing that the adventurers were just arriving at the guild. Amelia was sitting at the reception counter, organizing some papers that Damian had asked her to help him organize.

"Finn, good to see you. Are you excited about your next job?" Damian asked, greeting him cheerfully.

"A little anxious, I won't lie. I've only met Mr. Rodrick once, but he looks quite intimidating" Finn admitted, and Damian nodded in complete agreement.

"It's true, Mr. Rodrick is quite rude and intimidating, but he's a great person and a much better adventurer. I'm sure that under his guidance, you and Darwin will grow a lot over the next few weeks. People say he's a very good teacher" Damian admitted, knowing full well that Rodrick had tutored several royal knights and even adventurers during their missions.

"That's true. You and Darwin should take advantage of this golden opportunity. You're just a stone's throw away from advancing to Class C- and if you put in the effort, I'm sure you'll achieve it on this mission" Amelia affirmed, and Finn nodded. For some strange reason, Amelia had been very excited about the idea of Finn and Darwin becoming Class C.

"Sure, well, I'll go have breakfast. Darwin will be down in a few minutes as usual. Please tell him I'll meet you in the dining room," Finn said, saying goodbye to the two.

Finn walked through the guild toward the dining room, seeing several adventurers along the way. He even saw several groups of young people no older than 13, recent graduates from different schools who had recently debuted as adventurers. This reminded Finn of a book he had read a week ago in the library.

'It's curious how the rules of this world work and the way they distinguish between civilians and adventurers' Finn thought. 'Apparently not everything is so different from my previous world. Civilians here also come of age at 18, but adventurers reach it at 15. That means I'm already of legal age here. That's something that Cristel and Amelia hadn't told me. Just like the fact that no adventurer under 15 can carry out missions like Cristel's do if they come from an adult over 19. That means that Cristel and Amelia carried out all their missions when they were of age… well, almost. Amelia carried out one of those missions a few months before coming of age. However, if the employer is around three years older or younger than the adventurer they requested the mission from, then there's no problem... that's still rare, but at least they have some decency.'

In Master Rohan's office, the master was sitting in the armchair right in the middle of the room. In front of him was Rodrick, who had come to inform him of what he had discovered and the details of the upcoming mission before leaving that very night.

"So, have you already informed the other masters?" Rohan asked, and Rodrick nodded slightly.

"Yes, you're the last one I need to inform. Aside from your explorers, I'll take a group from each guild, with the purpose of completing the Everland dungeon while I investigate traces of King Orlando in this kingdom" Rodrick said, and Rohan nodded slightly, taking a sip of his glass of beer.

"How many people are we talking about?" Rohan asked, knowing full well that large groups tend to attract the attention of more dangerous monsters like griffins, basilisks, and even trolls.

"I'll bring three members from each guild. They're all C-class, and they volunteered to clear the dungeon themselves. Some of them even said they could clear it alone" Rodrick said, mocking the idea and making Master Rohan laugh.

"Ha, I have no doubt that adventurers these days will say anything to gain some fame!" Master Rohan mocked alongside Rodrick.

The Everland dungeon was a C-class only dungeon. However, there was a reason it hadn't been cleared in over 60 years, and that was because of the massive number of monsters there, and especially the numerous labyrinths in which adventurers often got lost, never to find out again.

"So what do you think? Do you think your explorers are ready for this mission?" Rodrick asked and Rohan nodded without hesitation.

"Don't worry about it. They've both grown a lot in the last three weeks. They're now D+ class, and Cristel believes they'll become C class during the mission" Rohan assured, and Rodrick nodded convincingly.

"Then I'll take them with me… I'll try to bring them back, but you already know the history of that dungeon very well" Rodrick said, and Rohan nodded.

"Don't worry, Rodrick. I know they'll come back. They're very good at their jobs, even if they don't like it" Rohan said, then leaned back in his chair. "But tell me, Rodrick, are you really going to meet dwarves on this trip?"

"That's right, the dwarves have important information about King Orlando, and I believe that if we can get our adventurers to interact more with them, we can get some kind of pressure on the queen to agree to the treaty and finally unite our races" said Rodrick, confident in his plan. "They know a lot about magical writings like runes, and both Albert and I believe they might have a way to open those doors in the cave, but for that, we first need to form a treaty with them."

Rohan nodded, understanding the plan. He truly hoped it would work. Since the archaeologists hadn't made any progress since the doors were discovered, they couldn't wait for Merlin to return and leave everything to him. Merlin also had important matters to discuss, and everyone knew it.

"Then so be it. I hope this mission and trip are fruitful" said Rohan, wishing them good luck.

Finn was sitting at one of the dining room tables. Next to him was Darwin, who hadn't arrived long. The two of them were waiting patiently for breakfast to be brought to them while talking to each other.

"So, are you practicing magical writing?" Darwin asked, and Finn nodded.

"Something like that. I just want to learn enough to understand a little. I've recently become very curious about this magic since almost everything around us uses it" Finn said.

"Yeah, it's very useful in some situations, but it's also very difficult to learn since there isn't just one type of magical writing; there are hieroglyphics, runes, ancient and new languages, among many others. Although new languages are usually used here" Darwin said.

After a while, a huge bear arrived at their table with a tray of food on its head. Finn carefully took the tray, still looking at the bear curiously.

"This is the bear the Master brought, isn't it?" Finn asked, looking at the bear, and it nodded before Darwin replied "Wow, it's smart too..."

"Yeah, Amelia and Damian trained it, if I remember correctly" Darwin said, also curious. "Did she beat you up?" Darwin asked, looking at the bear, and it looked around before nodding again.

"Incredible, animal abuse in the guild" Finn said, downplaying it and seeing the small helmet with the logo of winged boots on the bear's head. 'Is this the equivalent of our armband?' Finn wondered before pressing the logo and a screen appeared in front of them.

"Mhh… yeah, it was definitely registered by Amelia" Finn said, closing the screen and then giving her a piece of bread he had on his plate. "Here, your tip" Finn said.

The bear gladly accepted the bread before retreating back to the kitchen to continue serving the adventurers' orders.

"Poor creature…" Darwin said, watching the bear leave. "They overexploit him and he doesn't even know it."

The two began to eat quickly, as they still had to prepare everything to leave that same night.
