Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Confusion and encounter
Cristel fell on the main street of the capital. Upon hearing the explosion, she hurriedly got up, putting on only shorts, a bra, and a sword that she held behind her back with her telekinetic magic. Quickly looking around, she saw the smoke and fire heading toward the center of the capital and, carelessly, she ran at high speed, forgetting to cover her clothes with her magic.
"Fuck, I destroyed my bra… at least I managed to save my shorts" Cristel said, covering her breasts, but still running.
As she made her way to the explosion, she saw a group of women—night workers, she assumed—looking in the direction of the fire and quickly took off a woman's small black top and put it on herself.
"Ugh, it's a bit small…" Cristel said, putting the top.
Shortly after, Cristel began jumping between buildings until she landed right next to her grandfather, who was watching all the chaos that had happened along with the other Masters. A zeppelin was full of bombs and crashed just before reaching the center of the capital, destroying a large number of buildings and damaging many others. The explosion claimed several civilian lives.
"It's good you got here quickly, Cristel…" the Master said without turning to look at her. His gaze was focused on the fire and smoke that covered the entire destroyed area. "This kind of zeppelin doesn't have an autopilot function like the others" the master mentioned, and Cristel quickly understood what he meant.
Without another word, Cristel disappeared again at high speed, searching for any clue that would lead her to the person commanding the zeppelin. Cristel moved at high speed between the enormous buildings. In the eyes of the people that were watching what was happening, Cristel was nothing more than a simple red blur crossing from one side to the other, causing gusts of air everywhere.
As Cristel ran and jumped all over the place, she could see a white blur jumping all over the place, just like her. After a few seconds, Cristel landed on the roof of a building, seeing a girl landing right in front of her. The girl was the same height as Cristel, had long white hair, bright blue eyes, and a fierce gaze. The girl was wearing a short black shirt, showing off her defined abdomen, with tight black shorts, and, like Cristel, she was barefoot. Apparently, she, too, had rushed out of her room after the attack.
"Silia…" Cristel hissed. It's not that they hate each other, but their long-standing arguments and rivalry have led them to treat each other aggressively almost naturally.
"Cristel… I always knew you were a whore, but exposing yourself like this…" Silia mocked, looking at Cristel's outfit. "You better leave. I'll find the damn rat without help" Silia said, referring to the one who attacked the capital.
"HA, you? You're too slow for that" Cristel said, looking at Silia from head to toe. "With your level, I highly doubt you'd even be able to find a occupation in your guild."
"What did you say, bitch?" Silia asked, approaching Cristel.
Not only did Cristel not retreat, but she advanced, standing right in front of Silia. The two raised their heads with total arrogance and superiority toward their rival, looking directly into each other's eyes, unconcerned about the rain falling on them. Slowly, each of their hands began to manifest their magic; Cristel closed her hand into a fist from which a deep red flame began to emerge, while in Silia's case, a strange black flame began to manifest from her fist, seeming to consume the light around her.
The tension between the two began to rise, and their magic began to intensify with the pass of the time. Just as the two were about to strike each other, footsteps were heard, followed by a mocking voice.
Thud Thud Thud
"Are you going to kiss now, or are you going to keep pretending to be mortal enemies?" asked a mocking voice approaching them.
The two quickly broke away, seeing a white-haired girl in knight armor and gray eyes approaching them. It was Vana, who was looking at them disapprovingly.
"Oh, but look who it is. It's the royal's bitch. How are you doing at the castle?" Silia asked, looking at Vana.
"As polite as ever, Silia. Don't worry, you can call me whatever you want. My sword belongs to the kingdom and its civilians, not a guild full of fake heroes" Vana said with complete confidence.
"Oh fuck you, the only sword you touch is the dildo they stick up your ass!" Silia said aggressively.
"WHAT!?... Tch, whatever. You girls stay here kissing if you want, I have a criminal to look for…" Vana said, turning around, trying not to pay attention to what Silia said, but still wondering 'Is that how the adventurers see me?'
Vana pushed her thoughts away, knowing what was important right now, and upon reaching the edge of the building, she disappeared in a silver flash, followed by a sound of thunder a few moments after her departure.
"She's very fast… but she used to be faster. So much potential, and for what? To be wasted behind the castle gates" Silia thought, watching a silver flash disappear in the distance.
'She's still that fast, but you can tell she's getting rusty behind those doors...' Cristel thought, watching Vana run away.
Both Cristel and Silia knew Vana and her enormous talent in magic very well. The two had previously fought against Vana in the many battles the knights held from time to time, and they were well aware of the enormous potential she possessed, which was being wasted behind the castle gates.
"So... what were we at?" Silia asked, turning to look at Cristel, but she was already walking away while giving her the middle finger.
"suck a dick, Silia. I have an infiltrator to catch" Cristel said, then disappeared in a red blur.
"Tch, whatever" Silia said, also moving at high speed.
—
Cristel moved quickly through the streets, searching up and down all the buildings until a few minutes later she noticed a hooded figure running across the rooftops. The person made sure to only run and not use any magic that might alert anyone.
Seeing the mysterious figure, Cristel focused more on it, noticing a tag with a deer symbol on its waist, which was enough for Cristel to know it wasn't from the capital. Cristel didn't hesitate and ran at full speed toward the subject, appearing instantly right above him.
'They found me!' thought the hooded figure, seeing Cristel in the air, right above him.
The figure ducked, quickly dodging a powerful kick that caused a slight gust of wind. Cristel narrowed her eyes at the hooded figure, for the speed he had used was greater than most C-class, letting her know she wasn't dealing with just any enemy.
Cristel landed on the rooftop and then launched herself with both feet at the figure again, but this time with even more speed. The figure dodged the attack again, but this time Cristel had anticipated it, grabbing the figure by its hood and twisting her body in the air, causing the figure to spin with her and then slamming it into the rooftop.
'This time I used the speed of a normal B-class, but he still managed to avoid me' Cristel thought, getting a better idea of how strong her enemy could be.
'Tch, this girl is strong...' thought the hooded figure. He had used a lot of strength to avoid being dragged by Cristel, but she still lifted him up as if nothing had happened.
The figure quickly stood up, staring directly at Cristel in front of him.
'Are the whores from here that strong?' the figure wondered, looking at Cristel's clothing.
"I have to admit, at first I thought you were an elf because of the plate on your waist, but looking at you closely, you're nothing like an elf. Your body is too wide for an elf... and too tall for a dwarf" Cristel said, taking her sword from her back. "So there are only two options left: a human or a mytt... no matter who you are, I'll take you to the masters so you can pay for what you did."
"You dream big, girl" said the figure, his voice raspy and a little hoarse, probably from smoking too much.
The figure drew a pin-thin sword, preparing for a fight at any moment. Cristel didn't hesitate and attacked again with a strong, swift slash at the hooded man. The hooded man tried to block the blow with his sword, only to feel his arms give way under Cristel's force. The hooded man deflected Cristel's attack with difficulty, then using his own sword as support, stood up, delivering a swift kick to Cristel, who barely managed to cover herself.
'He's very fast' Cristel thought, covering herself with her arm.
Cristel didn't stop there. Twisting the handle of her sword, she swung her sword around, slashing at the hooded man. However, the hooded man dodged it again without any problems and attacked Cristel, using his sword with his right hand and delivering multiple thrusts. Cristel dodged a few thrusts, noting that this supposed elf was right-handed. Others ended up slightly cutting his skin, forcing Cristel to use her enormous sword as a shield.
'It's useless. He's too fast and agile for me to land a blow with this sword' Cristel thought, shoving her sword firmly into the rooftop and looking determinedly at the hooded man. 'It will have to be by hand.'
Cristel jumped over her sword and, somersaulting, delivered a powerful kick, causing a burst of force that slightly pushed the hooded man away. She then quickly positioned herself in front of him, beginning a hand-to-hand fight with him.
Cristel quickly exchanged blows with the hooded man, quickly noticing that he had no problem dodging her despite using all his speed. However, she could barely see the hooded man's blows.
'He's very fast... But also very weak, he's definitely barely strong enough for a Class C' Cristel thought, blocking the hooded man's attacks, barely feeling any of their strength.
The two clashed fiercely for a few seconds until the hooded man retreated at high speed, putting a good distance between him and Cristel. The hooded man saw his swollen knuckles, feeling as if he'd been hitting steel all this time. Then Cristel saw who was holding the hooded man's sword with a mocking smile.
'She managed to take it from me while retreating...' the hooded man thought, annoyed.
"You don't want to escape, do you?" Cristel said, throwing the sword to the side and then stomping hard on the rooftop, creating a small crater, before speeding towards the hooded man.
'Crap, I have to go before someone else hears our fight!' The hooded man thought, ready to escape, but when he tried to run, he felt his leg being pulled by something.
"You won't escape!" Cristel shouted, using her telekinesis to immobilize the hooded man's leg and managing to land a powerful blow.
Boom!
The blow was so strong that the hooded man was sent flying at high speed, crashing and bouncing off other rooftops a great distance away. Cristel stood on the edge of the building she was on, seeing a prototype elven ear and the fake nameplate the hooded man was wearing. When Cristel hit the hooded man, she tried to grab him by his ear again, but it ended up being a fake one.
"Well, that confirms it's not a mytt either, or at least not a pure one" Cristel said, looking at the fake ear. Cristel was about to head to where the hooded man had flown out, but she could see a small boat with a large sail emerging from between the buildings and speeding away from the capital. "Shit, he got away from me… anyway, I have to report this to Grandpa."
—
Cristel landed right in front of her grandfather and the other Masters. Albert, the royal knight, was also with them. Upon arrival, Cristel could see Silia and Vana with their respective superiors and a few things in their hands.
"I couldn't see him clearly because of the darkness in the alley, but I could definitely make out his ears after removing his hood" Silia said, showing a dark green hood.
"Yes, I was also able to get something out of the criminal I was chasing…" Vana said, showing the badge with a deer logo.
"So it wasn't just one, and they were elves too..." Albert said, thinking about this situation. It seemed very likely to him that it was them, since the elves had a lot of friction with them and even more with the dwarves.
"Don't be fooled, sir" Cristel said, taking a step forward and showing the sword, the badge, and the fake ear she had taken from the hooded man. "I also thought the criminal was an elf, but after a direct confrontation, I could see that his build was much thicker and more muscular than of a normal elf, and he was also the sword with his right hand."
"A fake ear and right hand… thank you very much, Miss Cristel" Albert said, taking the sword and the fake ear.
"Good work, my girl. This could have caused unnecessary problems with the elves" Master Rohan said, placing his hand on Cristel's shoulder. "However, the three infiltrators still managed to escape…" Master Rohan said, and the three girls lowered their heads in shame.
"Sorry grandpa, when I connected the blow I didn't think I was sending him into his escape vehicle, it's my mistake" Cristel apologized quickly
"The one I faced was very slippery; he dodged all my attacks without a problem" Silia admitted, embarrassed.
"I... just wasn't fast enough" Vana said, remembering how the infiltrator had managed to outspeed her and even mock her for a while. 'He was much faster than me, but how? I'm empowering my body with my carrier magic of lightning.'
"Sigh, don't worry, girls. These weren't regular individuals. They managed to pass through the capital's protective shield without any problems. They were surely class A or B+ at least" the Blacklion Master said.
"For now, it's best if you go back to rest. We'll take care of cleaning all this up" Albert said.
The three nodded and said goodbye to the Masters before heading to their respective residences. Master Rohan watched Cristel walk away before saying
"The attackers waited until there were no Class A members in the capital. They also attacked at the exact time and day the capital's shield systems were being rebooted" Rohan said. "This wasn't a simple coincidence or a well-crafted attack. Someone from the capital is undoubtedly revealing important information to another kingdom."
"Just as Rodrick said would happen. He firmly believes that the Dawnia Kingdom wants to cause a massive war and eliminate us and the other races from these lands" Leonor said, brushing her wet hair out of her face.
"It seems a war is coming after all…" Ava said, shaking her head.
