Jujutsu Kaisen: False Dawn

Chapter 132: A New Base in Congo – Chapter 133

A New Base in Congo – Chapter 133

Ren chewed gum, the faint snap of it breaking the silence as he walked through his new house. Calling it a "house" was underselling it—it was practically a mansion. High ceilings, polished wooden floors, and wide-open rooms made the place feel more like some wealthy politician's vacation home than a hideout for a jujutsu sorcerer.

It had been three days since his talk with Mei Mei, and now, thanks to her efficiency, Ren was in Congo. The heat outside pressed down like a heavy hand, but inside, the cool air carried the faint smell of new paint and untouched furniture.

Mei Mei walked just ahead of him, her black pencil skirt swaying with every confident step. She tapped a tablet as she spoke, her tone sharp yet oddly… businesslike.

"This place is three thousand square feet," she began, almost like a realtor on autopilot. "The land surrounding it is private, fenced off from all sides. Not only that, but there's an underground basement—perfect for training or running experiments. If you practice jujutsu down there, you'll be completely isolated. Plus, I can set up a permanent curtain around this mansion, blocking any cursed energy signatures. Nobody would even know this place exists."

Ren raised an eyebrow, watching her talk with a smirk on his face. 'Wow… she's really leaning hard into the whole jujutsu thing. Does she think I've given up? She's been like this since the plane ride here. Talking about cursed energy, this, cursed techniques that… Maybe she thinks I'm on the edge of quitting.'

He ran his fingers along the edge of a marble counter, barely listening to the rest of her property tour.

"Ah, where's the gun? I told you to get me one. Did you forget?" Ren interrupted, his voice lazy but sharp.

Mei Mei froze mid-step, turning slightly with an annoyed glance.

"Uh… yes, I bought you a gun, but—"

'Crap,' she thought, her mind flashing through worst-case scenarios. 'If I give it to him now, he'll just sit around all day spinning the cylinder, acting like a gangster. And if he gets too focused on the gun, he might forget about jujutsu entirely!'

Ren flopped onto the single couch in the otherwise bare living room. The place felt too big and too empty—just a couch, a table, and wide windows that opened to a breathtaking view of a lake surrounded by thick, green woods. The light bounced off the surface of the lake, painting ripples of gold across the walls.

"What? Huh? Give it to me if you bought it."

Mei Mei sighed dramatically, bending down beside the couch. She pulled out a small metal case, set it on the table, and flipped the latches. Inside was a pristine revolver.

"This is a Taurus 869 .357 Magnum," she said, almost hesitating to touch it. "A solid revolver. Good weight, good balance."

Ren snatched it from the box before she could even finish. With practiced ease, he flicked the cylinder open, glanced inside, and noted it was empty. He spun it once, shut it with a click, and aimed it casually at the ceiling.

Mei Mei's eyes narrowed.

"What? How do you know how to do that?"

Ren chewed his gum and shrugged.

"Read books on guns—you learn a lot."

'Read books? Yeah, right, 'Mei Mei thought, staring at him like he'd grown a second head. 'No one picks up a revolver and moves like that just from reading. He handled it like someone who's fired a thousand rounds.'

Ren, meanwhile, looked at the revolver like it was a toy he had been waiting for all his life.

'Nah, it's not from books… I used one back in my past life. Guess the muscle memory is still there.'

The click-clack sound of the spinning cylinder echoed through the empty room. Ren tilted the gun, watching the light glint off the steel.

'Hmm, this thing should be a solid ranged weapon. I don't get why sorcerers don't use guns more often. A bullet to the head is still a bullet to the head. And if I can infuse cursed energy into the bullets… hah, that would wreck curses with ease.'

He grinned slightly.

'Yeah… maybe I'll turn this gun into a cursed tool. Pump cursed energy into it over time, build it up until it can kill a curse with one shot. I've got the time, and honestly, I need something new now that Rika's gone for six months.'

Mei Mei crossed her arms, glaring at him as he twirled the gun like a kid with a new toy.

'Oh no… He's going to laze around here all day, playing with that stupid revolver! I need to get him back into jujutsu before he becomes a gun-obsessed lunatic.!'
