"Chiyu-sama is remarkable. Indeed, my Mangekyō eye power has advanced, but as you know, I'm no Uchiha—I face huge chakra consumption and backlash."

Kakashi's predicament was well known: each Mangekyō usage often left him bedridden.

Those orphans under Root's control were rescued. Chiyu recognized some, including Sai and his older brother Shin, both only around four or five years old.

Chiyu placed them, along with other rescued children from the orphanage, under his protection—seeing them as the future's seeds, successors to his will.

Finishing that, he ended the misery of Aburame Tatsuma, who had been stewing in unimaginable torment, granting him final release. Thus Root was wholly purged.

Meanwhile, Sarutobi Hiruzen staged a "righteous condemnation," publicly dissociating himself from Danzō and Root.

He denounced them in exalted, indignant terms:

"They're war criminals, traitors who betrayed their village, soulless monsters who violated all moral precepts with inhuman human experimentation. Root is a grotesque tumor born of darkness in Konoha!"

This show satisfied few; skepticism toward the upper echelons loomed. The Danzō fiasco had inflicted serious damage to Hiruzen's reputation.

But Hiruzen quickly diverted attention to another subject:
