Journey to the West: Tang Monk Conquers Everything

Chapter 408: Jade Rabbit Demon: What Kind of Person is Xuanzang?

Zixia no longer wished to remain in the Heavenly Court as an Immortal.

Firstly, in her view, the Heavenly Court was not as wonderful as she had originally imagined, especially after spending over a month with the team during their Journey to the West, Zixia felt even more strongly that the free and easy life of the Mortal World was a better fit for her.

Secondly, the rigid hierarchy of the Heavenly Court was even more entrenched, making it extremely difficult for ordinary beings to climb the ranks, and without certain status and identity, one was at the mercy of others in this Heavenly Court.

How long had it been? First, there was the whipping of Star Monarch of Warring States, and then came the marriage proposal from Superior Immortal Leizhen, both of which caused trouble for Monkey.

Zixia did not want to stay in the Heavenly Court because she felt that if she encountered trouble in the future, Monkey would not stand idly by and she did not want to cause him trouble.

Thirdly, because Zixia wanted to be with Sun Wukong.

Thus, considering all these reasons, Zixia displayed an attitude of refusal for the first time in the face of Empress and Great Jade Emperor's words, unwilling to take another Immortal Register, nor willing to hold office in the Heavenly Court any longer.

By her side, Sun Wukong, upon learning of Zixia's decision, actually agreed with her in his heart.

Sun Wukong had twice ascended to the heavens to take office, and each time it ended unpleasantly. Therefore, even Sun Wukong himself was unwilling to serve as an official in the Heavenly Court.

Consequently, as Zixia expressed her refusal, Sun Wukong naturally supported her.

"Jade Emperor Old Man, Empress, since Zixia is unwilling to take office in the Heavenly Court, why not grant her wish?" Sun Wukong stepped forward and asked.

"This…" The Jade Emperor did not give an answer but instead, his gaze fell on Empress who was beside him.

Zixia was a Fairy under Empress, naturally, this matter required Empress herself to decide.

"No!"

However, in the face of Sun Wukong's words, Empress shook her head, saying, "Not to mention that Zixia is a Fairy under my command, and cannot come and go as she pleases. More importantly, the Buddhist Sect is a place of sanctity. If Zixia is allowed to roam with a group of people from the Buddhist Sect, where would that leave the face of our Palace, and the face of Buddha?"

Yes, a Fairy from her own retinue, not even willing to be an Immortal Official anymore, wanting to run off and mingle with a group of Monks?

If word got out, would she, the Empress, have any face left?

Furthermore, if it really came to that and Tathagata himself came to raise the issue, saying that a Fairy from her retinue was following his Disciple and causing an influence, wouldn't she be even more infuriated?

This was akin to a mother in the Mortal World who, after much effort raising a daughter, sees her run off with another man. She would already be furious.

What if the parents of the man came to argue that her daughter was shameless, clinging to their son—wouldn't that make her want to bang her head against the wall?

Empress was well aware of the behavior typical of the Buddhist Sect and knew that they were fully capable of such actions. Therefore, even with Sun Wukong pleading the case, Empress firmly expressed her refusal!

"Face and honor?"

However, to Empress's words, Sun Wukong simply bared his teeth in a smile, showing no intention of politeness, and said, "Empress, haven't there been enough incidents involving Fairies under your command?"

As he spoke, Sun Wukong counted on his fingers, saying, "For example, the Jade Emperor's sister had a romance with a mortal from the Lower Realm, oh right, and that seems to be Erlang God's mother, doesn't it?"

"For example, the matter between the Cowherd and Weaving Maiden is known throughout the Three Realms!"

"Right, there's also the Third Holy Lady, who also with someone from the Lower Realm..."

"Enough!"

Not holding back in the slightest, Sun Wukong openly aired Empress's shortcomings in front of all the Immortals of Lingxiao Hall, causing Empress's face to darken as she shouted sternly.

"Monkey, perhaps you should hold your tongue..." The Immortals of Lingxiao Hall, taken aback by Sun Wukong's lawless attitude, hastily urged him to stop.

Although they were long aware of Monkey's indomitable nature and lawlessness, they had not expected that after 500 years of being suppressed, his temperament hadn't changed in the slightest? Publicly airing Empress's shortcomings!?

"Ahem..." Seeing that the atmosphere had become tense, the Jade Emperor coughed twice at this moment.

With Empress's shortcomings publicly revealed, it obviously couldn't be dropped, but Monkey was such a character that if it really came to blows, he was the chosen one of the great catastrophe of heaven and earth, and was truly a difficult opponent.

After coughing twice to draw everyone's attention, the Jade Emperor's gaze fell on Fairy Zixia and, after pondering for a moment, said, "I have thought of a perfect solution to this matter!"

"We await your decree, Your Majesty!" At the Jade Emperor's words, all the Immortals of Lingxiao Hall said in unison.

"Jade Emperor Old Man, speak up if you have something to say!" Sun Wukong's gaze also fell on the Jade Emperor and he asked.

Empress remained silent, simply looking at the Jade Emperor.

Since he had spoken, Empress, despite her immense anger inside, naturally had to maintain the Jade Emperor's dignity on the surface.

"Since Fairy Zixia is unwilling to take official post in the Heavenly Court anymore, then let her not serve—become a Loose Immortal..." The Jade Emperor spoke, fixing his gaze on Zixia as he said.

"Thank you, Great Jade Emperor!" Hearing the Jade Emperor's decree, a smile appeared on Fairy Zixia's face, as she gave thanks.

"Jade Emperor!?" Upon hearing these words, the nearby Empress's face showed a slight change.

She waved her hand at the Empress, signaling her to keep silent.

Immediately after, the Jade Emperor's gaze fell upon Zixia and he said, "Don't be in a hurry to thank me. Although you can no longer stay in the Heavenly Court as an official, there are conditions. Within a hundred years, you shall remain in the Moon Palace, perhaps keeping Fairy Chang'e company with some conversation, alright?"

"This..."

Hearing the Jade Emperor's words about staying at the Moon Palace, Zixia's expression stiffened somewhat.

She understood that the Jade Emperor had agreed to her conditions, but he was preventing her from continuing with the team on the Journey to the West for Scriptures.

Upon hearing this, Sun Wukong opened his mouth and said, "Old Jade Emperor, that's a bit much, isn't it? Since it's a grace, how can you justify confining someone? Keeping her in the Moon Palace, won't that be suffocating?"

"You rascal Monkey, I merely said to have her stay in the Moon Palace to keep Fairy Chang'e company and pass the time. When did I say she was not allowed to leave?" the Jade Emperor asked with annoyance, giving Sun Wukong a glance.

"Uh, well, if that's the case, it's not too bad..." Hearing the Jade Emperor's words and realizing it wasn't imprisonment in the Moon Palace, Sun Wukong held his tongue.

However, he turned his head to look at Zixia. Of course, all of this depended on Zixia's own decision now.

"I, I'm willing..." Seeing the inquiring look in Sun Wukong's eyes, Fairy Zixia hesitated for a moment before nodding and agreeing.

Zixia also knew that to have fought for this much was already quite good.

In the Moon Palace, keeping Fairy Chang'e company, at the very least, she should have some peace and wouldn't have to keep troubling the Monkey to solve problems for her, right?

The Empress next to her also calmed her expression.

In her view, obviously, she could accept the Jade Emperor's proposition as well.

Since the matter had been decided and there were no objections from either side, naturally, Fairy Zixia proceeded to the Moon Palace.

Sun Wukong accompanied her on her way, and finally bid farewell to Fairy Zixia in the Moon Palace.

"Monkey, remember to come visit me often!" As she watched Sun Wukong's departing figure, Fairy Zixia called out, unable to hide her reluctance.

"Don't worry, when I, Old Sun, have some free time, I'll be sure to come and see you!" he replied, waving his hand with assurance.

As soon as his words were spoken, Sun Wukong looked at another beautiful woman standing beside with a cold demeanor and said, "Fairy Chang'e, now that my friend is residing in the Moon Palace, I'm hoping you'll take good care of her!"

"Great Sage, you are too kind. I'd be too happy to have someone come to the Moon Palace to chat with me!" Fairy Chang'e responded, upon hearing Sun Wukong's words.

Yet, despite speaking joyful words, her temperament, like the moon, was extremely cold, and there was not the slightest sign of happiness on her face.

It was utterly impossible to get along with such a temperament.

After waving his hand, Sun Wukong leaped skyward and, deploying his Somersault Cloud divine skill, transformed into a streak of light and disappeared into the horizon within moments.

"Fairy Chang'e, it's a pleasure to meet you!" As Sun Wukong left, Fairy Zixia spoke and greeted Fairy Chang'e.

"Hmm, Fairy Zixia is courteous!" Fairy Chang'e nodded and returned the greeting with her cool demeanor.

After exchanging greetings, for a moment, Fairy Zixia and Fairy Chang'e looked at each other awkwardly, as if the atmosphere was becoming tense.

"Heeheehee, Fairy Zixia, your name has been quite celebrated recently!"

Just when the atmosphere was a little awkward between the two, suddenly, a laughter like silver bells rang out and immediately a girl around fifteen or sixteen years old came bouncing over.

Unlike Fairy Chang'e, this girl appeared to be lively and cheerful.

"You are!?"

Seeing the vivacious girl suddenly appear in the Moon Palace, Fairy Zixia was slightly taken aback and then recognized her, saying, "You must be Fairy Chang'e's pet, the Jade Rabbit, right?"

"Yes, yes!" The girl hopped closer to Fairy Zixia with a curious gaze and asked, "I heard that you and the Great Sage Equal to Heaven are lovers!?"

"Not really, just friends..." Suddenly asked this question by the Jade Rabbit, Fairy Zixia felt a bit embarrassed and awkwardly explained.

"Heeheehee, by the looks of it, Sister Zixia, it seems like you're more than just friends!" the Jade Rabbit teased with a mischievous air.

After a beat, the Jade Rabbit continued curiously, "By the way, I've heard you've been with the Scripture Seeking team for over a month now? You must be quite familiar with Holy Monk Xuanzang, right? Could you tell me what kind of person the Holy Monk is?"

The Jade Rabbit eyed Fairy Zixia with a curious gaze.

Even Fairy Chang'e beside her showed a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, her gaze settling on Zixia as she awaited the answer.
