Chapter 355: Golden Haze Crown
Perhaps because "A Chinese Odyssey" was so deeply loved in a past life, Jiang Liu always felt that Sun Wukong and Fairy Zixia should have developed a poignant and beautiful romance.
Therefore, at the beginning, Jiang Liu was very supportive of the relationship between Sun Wukong and Zixia, and he even took the initiative to bring the two of them together.
However, the events this time resulted in Fairy Zixia taking the initiative to confess her feelings, yet Sun Wukong himself didn't even understand what romantic love was, so Jiang Liu could only think of a way to help him figure out his own feelings.
Unexpectedly, the conclusion turned out like this, Sun Wukong really had no romantic feelings for Zixia?
He said it himself, asked the Jade Emperor for a marriage decree, let others marry Zixia, and Sun Wukong's heart didn't even feel sad?
If that was truly the case, did he indeed have no romantic feelings for Zixia?
"So, Master, what you mean is, there is no romantic love between me and Zixia, right?" Seeing Jiang Liu's reaction, Sun Wukong understood his meaning and asked.
"Yes, what you feel for Zixia is indeed just the affection between friends, it's a pity though, her feelings for you are romantic, so it's better to interact with her as little as possible in the future!" Jiang Liu nodded and gave Sun Wukong a piece of advice.
"Less contact with her, huh?" Upon hearing this advice, Sun Wukong sighed heavily and felt even more troubled by romantic feelings, which seemed like a bothersome matter.
Just because of so-called romantic feelings, had he lost a friend?
"What's so good about romantic feelings? We're all friends, isn't it better to just eat, drink, and play together?" Sun Wukong shook his head, feeling somewhat helpless.
In his view, the simple friendship was the easiest; they could eat, drink, and play together if they liked each other, and part ways if they didn't. Wasn't that simple?
"Right, Wukong, who was it that said romantic love was a troublesome matter, and that he would never encounter such troubles in his lifetime?" Having said nearly enough, suddenly Jiang Liu's face carried a smile as he teased Sun Wukong.
"I, I'm not entangled in love, I am just..." Hearing Jiang Liu's teasing words, Sun Wukong's face reddened, and he started to defend himself.
Before Sun Wukong could finish, Jiang Liu waved his hand to interrupt, saying, "In our hometown, when a person on horseback collides with another rider, it's called a traffic accident. You might be skilled enough to ensure you never collide with anyone, but can you guarantee that others won't hit you?"
Jiang Liu's words left Sun Wukong with his mouth agape, speechless.
Indeed, he didn't have romantic feelings for Zixia, but that didn't stop Zixia from having feelings for him, right? Wasn't he just troubled by this fact?
"Then, Master, you mean you're often troubled by love?"
Unable to respond, Sun Wukong retorted sarcastically, "Like Second Sister Luan before, the Fox Demon at that time, and the few other Female Demons we met on the road, they all wanted to be with you!"
"Alas, can't help it; being handsome always attracts these incidents. I've long been used to it unlike you, Monkey, you're ugly, so it's fortunate this is your first time dealing with this sort of situation. Luckily, as your Master, I have vast experience and can give you the right guidance!"
He reached out to flip his hair at the front of his forehead in a narcissistic gesture, only to touch nothing. With his bald head, where was there any hair? But this didn't affect Jiang Liu's self-flattering words...
"Squeak squeak..." Jiang Liu's words made Sun Wukong gnash his teeth in anger, loudly arguing, "Master, don't forget, I, Old Sun, am known as the Monkey King. How can you say I, Old Sun, am ugly?"
"Can't help it, human and monkey aesthetics are different, aren't they? Maybe Bajie is considered good-looking among pigs. So, do you think he's good-looking!" Jiang Liu spread his hands, adopting a helpless expression as he spoke.
"This, this..." Sun Wukong was choked with frustration but couldn't refute Jiang Liu, feeling helpless and sulking on his own.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing had their own worries about Sun Wukong's situation.
Although they didn't dare burst into the room, both of them sneakily hid outside the door, listening intently.
After a while, they finally heard the arguing between Master and eldest brother inside; it seemed they were bickering.
Bajie and Wujing were then relieved.
If eldest brother could bicker with Master, he must be alright.
Indeed, Master was truly impressive; with him involved, there was nothing to worry about.
...
As the night passed without further incident, everyone returned to their rooms to rest. Jiang Liu sat cross-legged, practicing his cultivation throughout the night, and come morning after breakfast, packed up the Exquisite Immortal Mansion, and the Scripture Seeking Team continued westward, moving unhurriedly.
A gentle breeze carried a touch of coolness.
When Sun Wukong had ascended to heaven, it was during the Mid-Autumn Festival; a month had passed since then, and the weather had gradually cooled down.
The atmosphere of fall always brought a sense of solemnity.
The Journey to the West Team continued their trek to the west. But let's put that aside, and turn our attention to somewhere else. In the Purple Bamboo Forest of the South Sea, Bodhisattva Guanyin sat quietly by the Lotus Pond.
In her hands, the Calamity Book of the westward journey indeed had a new entry added to it. It was the tribulation where Sun Wukong was punished with a beating in the Heavenly Court. Seeing this scene, the corners of Bodhisattva Guanyin's mouth slightly curled upward.
The Journey to the West for Scriptures had been prepared for so long, and the path had been set afoot. But up until now, they had barely passed ten tribulations out of the ninety-nine and eighty-one trials. It was truly not an easy endeavor.
Fortunately, aside from the tribulations she needed to design in advance, the great calamities of the world also surfaced on their own.
For Guanyin, the tribulation of Sun Wukong being punished was like a bonus she had stumbled upon out of thin air.
If in the future such tribulations would just spring up on their own, would she not wake up laughing even in her sleep?
Shaking her head, she acknowledged that unexpected joys were indeed a good thing, but did that mean she should just do nothing and wait for tribulations to arise on their own?
Of course, such a thing was impossible!
After shaking her head, Bodhisattva Guanyin fell into deep contemplation once more.
The scripture-seeking team; Xuanzang, Bajie, and Wujing each had encountered their own Love Tribulation. Now, only Sun Wukong and White Dragon Horse were left.
White Dragon Horse had already experienced the ordeal of a broken marriage. There would be plenty of opportunities in the future for more developments. So, the question remained, what about Sun Wukong?
Thinking of Sun Wukong's situation, Bodhisattva Guanyin's brow furrowed slightly, her fingers twining with a Red Thread.
Bodhisattva Guanyin had known of the affair between Sun Wukong and Fairy Zixia very early on. Such an excellent opportunity would not be passed up by her, and thus she had intended to bind Sun Wukong and Zixia together with a Red Thread.
Unfortunately, she found out she had failed. The Red Thread she had obtained from the Matchmaker God could not be tied to either Sun Wukong or Zixia. Discover hidden stories at My Virtual Library Empire
Originally, Guanyin had been secretly surprised, as this seemed to be a first for her.
However, after the incident of Sun Wukong being punished, everyone across the Three Realms and Six Paths came to know of the relationship between Sun Wukong and Zixia.
For her sake, Sun Wukong did not hesitate to ascend to the Heavenly Court to slay the Star Monarch of Warring States, and also for her, Sun Wukong was willing to endure the Jade Emperor's punishment.
"So it seems, there's no need for me to actively tie this Red Thread – there was originally one between them already, right?" Musing for a moment, Bodhisattva Guanyin put away the last strand of Red Thread she held and murmured to herself in silence.
Only this explanation could justify why she had been unable to tie a Red Thread between Sun Wukong and Zixia.
Since there already existed a Red Thread between Sun Wukong and Zixia, Bodhisattva Guanyin thought it over and felt she need not arrange this Love Tribulation for Sun Wukong and Zixia – perhaps it was predestined in the mysterious workings of fate?
"Muzha!" Guanyin called out after a moment of contemplation.
"Bodhisattva, what are your commands?" Following her words, Muzha approached, bowed slightly, and spoke.
Different from his previous vigor, Muzha now exuded a sense of silence all around him.
Clearly, the recent events at the Great Snow Mountain, where he was maimed by a demon-possessed Wujing, had dealt a great blow to him.
"I have a letter to write, and also the Treasure, the Golden Haze Crown, to be delivered to Lingji Bodhisattva," said Bodhisattva Guanyin. As she spoke, she produced a letter and a dazzlingly radiant crown.
"I shall faithfully execute the Bodhisattva's decree!" Upon hearing this, Muzha reached out to receive the items from Bodhisattva Guanyin and replied.
After his words fell, Muzha turned and left the Purple Bamboo Forest.
By the Lotus Pond, Bodhisattva Guanyin watched silently as Muzha departed, and after a long while, she sighed softly.
There was a sense of regret and resignation...
Riding the clouds, Muzha left Mount Luojia of the South Sea and headed straight for Lingji Bodhisattva's Taoist Arena. Gliding through the air, he watched the scenery retreat beneath his feet, his expression calm.
Just then, Muzha looked down at the Golden Haze Crown in his hands, curiosity stirring within him.
As an emissary of Bodhisattva Guanyin, Muzha of course knew that the Golden Haze Crown was a treasure recently taken from the Buddha's treasury.
He was even more aware that this crown had shown incredible power during the Deification battles.
"If I had this Golden Haze Crown, could I avenge myself unnoticed?" Muzha mused as he looked at the crown in his hand, a thought suddenly crossing his mind.
