Chapter 31 Expressing Each Other's Views
"Your Majesty."
Ao Yun arrived at the Wan Shu Building, and during his reading, he encountered Sun Wukong and called out softly, "Your Majesty is indeed here."
Sun Wukong smiled and said, "The sea of learning is endless, and although I am of mixed yuan, I too need to be erudite and broad-minded. Looking more and observing more, there's always room for growth."
Ao Yun covered her mouth and said, "With Your Majesty's vast divine skills and boundless mana, yet still so diligent, how can those Demon Kings ever catch up?"
"One must still have the spirit of competition," Sun Wukong replied, shaking his head slightly. If those Demon Kings, seeing his exceptional talents and diligence surpassing theirs, chose to slack off, then they were not the kind of people Huaguo Mountain sought.
At least, such characters were not qualified to hold important positions in Huaguo Mountain.
Ao Yun nodded slowly and then brought up Rakshasa women and the Bull Demon King, "Your Majesty, that Iron Fan seems to be mistreating the Bull Demon King, the big white ox you brought back. There seems to be some discord between the two."
Sun Wukong's brows lifted and he chuckled lightly, "Is that so? I hadn't noticed, but let her be. The Bull Demon King caused much slaughter in the Western Niu Hezhou, consider it his punishment."
If the Bull Demon truly reformed in the future, Sun Wukong wouldn't mind restoring his human form.
As for Iron Fan?
He did not pay much attention.
This was because the girl was a Rakshasa by nature, fiery and in need of tempering her spirit. The thick-skinned old ox was perfectly suited to be her whetstone.
Noticing the book by Sun Wukong's side, Ao Yun's curiosity led her to ask, "Crafts of a Hundred Families? Is this a book you wrote, Your Majesty?"
Sun Wukong nodded and replied, "I wrote it last time. I came here to polish it further because during my travels across the four continents, I made new discoveries about the crafts of the people."
"Your Majesty has such great talent."
Ao Yun picked up "Crafts of a Hundred Families" and began to flip through it casually. She was soon captivated by the various skills within, mesmerized for a good while before snapping back to reality. Her cherry lips parted slightly in unconscious praise.
"If this book were to spread throughout the four continents, Your Majesty would surely earn boundless merit."
The book contained thousands of arts and myriad skills, which, if mastered by the common folk, would not only lead to wealth but also to a comfortable life.
If everyone could do this, the people's wealth would strengthen the nation!
In Nanshan Continent, with its multitude of states warring ceaselessly, what was the reason?
Beyond the ambitions of the rulers, it was because the countries were small, with little land, grain, and wealth, and the people were poor, leading to constant strife.
"Crafts of a Hundred Families" documented thousands of skills and countless principles. If people learned them, farming would yield double the results with half the effort; animal husbandry would result in herds of cattle and sheep; textile work could bring in a substantial income each month.
Ao Yun couldn't stop praising it, but Sun Wukong simply shook his head slightly.
The wealth of the people didn't necessarily mean the wealth of the household.
During his time learning Taoism, he had traveled through Nanshan Continent. After attaining Taoism, he visited it a few times as well.
No matter how wealthy the people of these countries were, they could not compare to the rulers.
As long as the rulers increased taxes, the people of the country had to "find joy in their misery" and encourage themselves.
Oppressive government is as fierce as a tiger!
And recently, many people from Nanshan Continent's coastline took to boats, wanting to join Huaguo Mountain, mostly refugees fleeing war or escaping the tiger-like heavy taxes, the majority being those who could not survive.
Some even felled trees and clung to logs, prepared to drift across the ocean.
So much so that even with the assistance of the East Sea Dragon King in secret, many still perished at sea.
After all, the East Sea Dragon King couldn't watch the sea at all times.
Sun Wukong felt a deep sigh, observing that such calamities in Nanshan Continent were generally due to its many lords and unceasing warfare among the kingdoms. If they were united, things might be somewhat improved.
But Sun Wukong knew this was not a permanent solution.
Those who hold the world for their house may govern a country because of one person, but with hereditary succession, the inevitable onset of incompetent rulers means that a day will come when the house falls and the country collapses, an eventuality beyond human control.
And there was indeed a solution.
The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors chose the wise and capable to govern through abdication.
Unfortunately, the people of today are not as virtuous and wise as those in ancient times—they vie for fame and profit, valuing family and bloodline over meritocracy and are gradually losing their virtues.
It would be uncertain how many years and months it would take to pick them back up.
In the blink of an eye, March swiftly passed by.
During these three months, Sun Wukong participated in political affairs and observed the livelihood of the people, gaining insights into the human world through his daily interactions—he seemed to have some realizations—
If the human world were a furnace, the livelihood of the people would be the flames and smoke.
The carefree traveler through the mundane world, with just one thought, traverses the boundary between immortal and mortal.
In Huaguo Mountain, with the circulation of Eternal Coins and Heavenly Dao Coins, most humans also began to cultivate, but what they practiced was not Divine Skills or Spells but martial arts.
For most spirits of the wild, Divine Skills and Spells are innate abilities for animals and plants, neither requiring deliberate cultivation to utilize the spiritual energy of the cosmos to cast spells and perform divine skills.
For humans, however, cultivation requires reading various classics, understanding the principles, learning medicine, and only then can they practice, harness spiritual energy, and learn spells and divine skills.
Compared to that, martial arts were easier to learn.
By practicing stances and understanding the techniques of power exertion, one could activate their Qi-Blood and increase their strength. Additionally, with the nourishment from the spiritual energy of Eternal Coins and Heavenly Dao Coins, they could make rapid progress.
However, what Sun Wukong saw the most was the pursuit of Eternal Coins and Heavenly Dao Coins among the spirits of Huaguo Mountain.
This form of currency truly motivated all beings of Huaguo Mountain, as even the Demon Kings of the seventy-two cities actively started learning various kinds of knowledge—it was truly unbelievable.
The lure of profit indeed is chased by all beings!
The development of Huaguo Mountain accelerated due to Eternal Coins and Heavenly Dao Coins, but Sun Wukong cautioned Ao Yun not to produce too many of these coins.
Otherwise, Huaguo Mountain might become another Nanshan Continent.
"Big brother, I know moderation," Ao Yun nodded slowly, and as she spent time with Sun Wukong, she also changed from addressing him as "Your Majesty" to "big brother," which brought them significantly closer in their relationship.
Even within her eyes, there was a hint of admiration.
"Hmm."
Sun Wukong nodded slowly, summoned the Demon Kings from the seventy-two cities, called for the Bengba Two Generals and the Marshals, and later brought in the venerable old fox, Taoist Fengyun, and the first group of scholars, Taoists, and monks who had followed him to Huaguo Mountain from Ao Lai.
This content is presented by M4VLEMPYR.
Now, these scholars were proficient in both literary and martial arts, elegant and distinguished; these Taoists had an immortal presence, like true immortals; and these monks were surrounded by a Zen aura, with virtue in their hearts.
Sun Wukong said, "Three months ago, I spoke with the venerable Fox Demon King in the library about the education at Huaguo Mountain, wishing to establish a school. Hence, I plan to build a new city called Three Lives Scholarly City. What do you all think?"
The venerable Fox Demon King was overjoyed.
He had not expected the Monkey King to be so generous as to build such a grand academy.
Happiness had come so suddenly!
He was so overwhelmed that he nearly fainted!
Ao Yun thought for a moment and asked, "Three Lives Scholarly City, what does the 'Three Lives' refer to?"
Sun Wukong explained, "It is derived from the principles of Dao begetting one, one begetting two, two begetting three, and three begetting all things. Since I have studied the teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism and am acquainted with the knowledge of a hundred schools of thought, the name 'Three Lives' couldn't be more appropriate."
Ao Yun nodded slowly and said, "If the Demon Kings are willing to help, Three Lives Scholarly City can be built in half a month."
"Ao Yun is jesting,"
the Elephant Demon King said, waving his long trunk, "We elephants have immense strength and can assist in transporting soil, stones, and wood. Within a day, we can prepare all the materials needed for the entire city."
The Beaver Demon King said, "My beaver clan excels in carving. Just provide us with a blueprint, and within a day, we can carve anything be it wood or brick and tile."
The Red Fox Demon King said, "My fox clan is adept at enchantment. We can cast spells that make the workers feel vigorous and a hundred times more spirited."
Each of the great Demon Kings expressed their own views, eagerly offering their contributions.
