Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Ao Yun
The Dragon Maiden first entered Shuilian Cave through a passageway under the sea, but now she followed Sun Wukong, entering the Huaguo Mountain, and witnessing its scenery for the first time.
The ancestral pulse of Ten Continents, the originating dragon of Three Islands.
It truly lived up to its reputation!
A high wall surrounded the perimeter, about a hundred yards high, encapsulating Huaguo Mountain and stretching thousands of miles without visible end.
Sun Wukong, standing atop the city wall with Ao Yun, looked inward to see seventy-two cities interconnected by smooth, straight roads bustling with countless horse carts and ox carts, carrying goods and teeming with activity.
"Is this the real Huaguo Mountain? It's no different from a human kingdom," Ao Yun exclaimed, and even beyond the walls at the harbor, humans and demons mingled and argued, momentarily disorienting Ao Yun.
Was this really a den of demons and not the human world?
Sun Wukong smiled and said, "Humans and demons are not so different. Now, do you feel confident in managing the demons of Huaguo Mountain?"
"Yes!"
Ao Yun's response was resolute.
Though frightened inside, she spoke boldly.
Sun Wukong chuckled softly and said, "Good, in that case, you are now the Second Great King of Huaguo Mountain, second only to me, above ten thousand spirits!"
Ao Yun was startled, incredulously staring at Sun Wukong.
To become Second Great King immediately?
Could she command respect?
Her strength was weak; demons usually respected strength over all. She could speak back to Sun Wukong because he reasoned with her,
but ordinary demons were different—they wouldn't likely submit to her authority.
Sun Wukong smiled and said, "Do not worry. Most fierce creatures like wolves, tigers, and leopards have already been removed from Huaguo Mountain. Those left are either herbivores or omnivores among the Demon Kings, and their temperaments are quite manageable. Moreover, with our trade with Ao Lai, they understand reason and will not overly trouble you."
"However, you are indeed a bit weak..."
"How about this—I'll teach you a spell. Practice diligently, and in the future, becoming a Heavenly Immortal is not impossible."
Heavenly Immortal!
Ao Yun's eyes brightened. A Heavenly Immortal was beyond the Three Realms, outside of the Five Elements, and was the highest among the Five Immortals. Could she really achieve such a state?
Following that, Sun Wukong imparted a spell called "Heavenly Dragon" to Ao Yun.
This was a marvelous method created by Sun Wukong, who understood the physical form of the dragon clan, the essence of the Bright Dragon Clan's bloodline, with Bodhi's wisdom. It could strengthen the dragon's body and True Yuan, and also cultivate the body of the Heavenly Dragon, unmatched in battle strength.
The so-called body of the Heavenly Dragon was inspired by the Eight Divisions of Heavenly Dragons that Bai transformed into during the final ascension of his master and disciples in the simulator.
However, it discarded the true meaning of Buddha's Eight Divisions Float-Tu and retained only the term "Heavenly Dragon," making it purer.
Whether Ao Yun chose to pursue the Tao or meditation in the future was for her to decide.
"Thank you, Great King."
Ao Yun, stimulated by the profundity of the Heavenly Dragon spell, was overwhelmed with excitement, though her face grew a bit more somber.
She had come to repay a debt of gratitude. How had she ended up gaining a spell?
The debt of gratitude she owed was growing...
...
Upon returning to Shuilian Cave, Sun Wukong summoned the masters of the seventy-two caves. Those Demon Kings who had left were replaced by new ones, though slightly less powerful.
"I declare an announcement. Starting today, Ao Yun, daughter of the East Sea Dragon King, will be the Second Great King of Huaguo Mountain, and she will lead you henceforth."
The gathered Demon Kings were incredulous.
Although the dragon race of the Eastern Sea was ranked among immortals, should such a young girl really govern them?
Moreover, they had some connections with sea creatures like shrimp soldiers and crab generals. The East Sea Dragon King had many descendants, yet this young female dragon, Ao Yun, was unheard of; on what grounds would she command them?
"Because she is smarter than you," Sun Wukong said sharply, seeming to read the demons' minds.
These Demon Kings had been under instruction for three years, but still struggled to control their tempers. For this reason, Sun Wukong was indeed frustrated and needed someone intelligent to manage them.
Ao Yun's arrival could not have been more timely.
"We honor your command," they said.
The Demon Kings were silent as if struck by cold.
Sun Wukong saw their condition and slowly spoke, "I know that among you, there are those who wish to leave, just like the Demon King three years ago."
Demons are naturally free-spirited, and for these remaining Demon Kings to endure and learn for three years was commendable.
However, they didn't realize that freedom and rules are not opposites.
Unrestrained freedom is reckless and wild, it is the path of demons.
The one in the simulator, who had returned after mastering his skills and indulged his ego, had entered the path of demons, which led to the ordeal at Five Elements Mountain and the difficulties of the journey to the west.
Unfortunately, these Demon Kings were unaware.
"We dare not," the Demon Kings trembled, among them indeed were demons who wanted to leave, but now with Huaguo Mountain's solid walls and their involvements in building its structures,
they were reluctant to just leave.
If Sun Wukong were still their direct superior, they wouldn't have cared.
But to be governed by a dragon maiden? How could that be reasonable?
Just because she's clever?
But they too had contributed to each brick and tile, each room and building of Huaguo Mountain.
They were not convinced!
At this, Sun Wukong also grew agitated.
Not convinced?
What right did they have to be unconvinced?
If during these three years they could have taken the initiative to study and learn skills without needing him, the great king, to force them, would he need to hire new people?
And to speak harshly, if the Demon Kings remained this way in the future, he would have to find a way to replace them all.
As for their merits...
Pshaw.
The bricks and tiles, the rooms and houses of Huaguo Mountain, were all co-designed by him and the craftsmen of the mortal world, while these Demon Kings merely had their subordinates carry bricks and transport wood, performing mere physical labor.
In time, he would convert their contributions to Huaguo Mountain into monetary value, whether it be mortal gold and silver or spirit fruits that enhance cultivation, and give it to them, lest they say he had chilled their hearts.
It was ultimately due to his power, and there was no need to speak of loyalty between ruler and subject.
The demons dispersed, and the dragon maiden cautiously said, "Did I do something wrong?"
If it was because of her that the relationship between the Monkey King and the Demon Kings of Huaguo Mountain deteriorated, then it was not gratitude but a curse of beauty that she represented.
"It has nothing to do with you," Sun Wukong sighed, "I conduct enlightening activities without using mana, but ultimately they follow their nature and struggle to control their inner restlessness."
"This generation of Demon Kings, except for a few who truly wish to change, the rest are most likely hopeless."
Ao Yun did not understand, but still under Sun Wukong's arrangement, got acquainted with her role as the second in command and, under the guidance of Sun Ba, inspected the city within the territory of the island where Huaguo Mountain was located...
Sun Wukong sat on the imperial throne and opened the simulator.
The first simulation had raised him to his current exalted position, which was like ascending to heaven in a single step; now, he was to start a second simulation.
The chances for simulation were also easily obtained; it only required the injection of mana.
Now, Sun Wukong, being a Grand Golden Immortal of mixed origin above Tai Yi, possessed boundless mana, which could recover countless points in a single breath, inexhaustible and unfailing.
[Number of simulations: 999999...]
Looking at the simulator's count, Sun Wukong chuckled lightly, yet he was uncertain whether to simulate again.
The unknown was what made it interesting.
However, Sun Wukong still initiated another simulation.
After all, his name was still on the list of life and death, and upon reaching the end of his "lifespan," soul reapers would come to collect him, as his ascent to immortality was illegal, not like other immortals who ascended through accumulating deeds, meditation, Qi cultivation, or refining the spirit.
Instead, he had become a Heavenly Immortal outside the rules of the three realms.
