Chapter 135 Simulation: Virtual Reality
Being half a step ahead is genius, being a whole step ahead...
is madness.
But just how far ahead is the Ming Lun conglomerate?
Two steps?
Three steps?
Or even more steps?
No one was sure. The only answer that could respond to their inner questions was the unknown.
"The development of virtual reality can be divided into four stages."
"Before 1963, the simulation of sound and dynamic imagery was the first stage that encompassed the concept of virtual reality."
"From 1963 to 1972, virtual reality began to sprout, marking the second stage."
"From 1973 to 1989, the concept of virtual reality was born, and its theories began to take shape, constituting the third stage."
"And the fourth stage is from 1990 until this year, with research conducted worldwide up to the point where we at Ming Lun further perfected virtual reality theory and applied it to gaming."
Chan Yinsha spoke confidently, her face brimming with self-assurance as others couldn't help but take notice.
In fact, this so-called virtual reality was merely a warm-up for the future launch of the Taixu Illusory Realm; the actual release was at least a good two or three years away.
After all, people needed time to adapt to the age of intelligence.
The path, naturally, had to be taken one step at a time.
However, to make the audience understand that virtual reality wasn't just a gimmick, Chan Yinsha, under Sun Shisheng's instruction, prepared to randomly select an audience member for them to experience the true essence of virtual reality.
This got the audience eager to try.
Real virtual reality naturally called for experimentation.
After all, everyone knew that smartphones would go on sale immediately after this conference, but virtual reality might take years before it could enter the market.
If they missed this opportunity, who knew how long they would have to wait.
Chan Yinsha clenched her fists, and the temperature inside the venue dropped slightly as countless water droplets materialized out of thin air, glistening in the light with a kaleidoscope of colors.
This was the manifestation of her mental power, combined with her own energy, affecting reality and causing water molecules in the air to gather and condense into droplets. ThelatestchaptersareuploadedfirstonM|V|LE3MPYR.
To the others, this was already akin to a miracle.
Is this really still boxing?
The vigour of life...
The Mental Realm...
Is it really that miraculous?
Then, as Chan Yinsha formed a lotus seal with her hands, the suspended droplets converged, forming a crystal-clear, crystalline lotus flower.
"This water lotus is formed by the power of my mind and will be used to select a volunteer."
"It will land in the hands of the calmest member of the audience."
Having said that, she lifted the water lotus into the air above the venue, allowing it to drift freely as if sensing the audience's inner fluctuations, and slowly floated toward a particular direction.
The audience was expectant.
If this water lotus could be preserved and passed down to descendants, it might even be considered a Divine Artifact.
Unfortunately, the more they desired it, the less calm their hearts were. Even pretending to be calm couldn't conceal their inner restlessness.
Under the anticipatory gaze of the crowd, the water lotus landed in the hands of the reporter Zhu Jia.
Among those present, aside from the students from the martial arts school, only Zhu Jia had the calmest mind.
After all, having experienced life-and-death moments, her spirit was much calmer than that of the average person.
And the students from the martial arts school were there on purpose to ensure the safety of the audience, and to avoid conflicts of interest, the water lotus could under no circumstances land in their hands.
"I invite the person chosen by the water lotus to come on stage," Chan Yinsha invited Zhu Jia.
Zhu Jia felt lucky.
She stood up and, under the envious eyes of the audience, confidently walked onto the stage.
Her reporter's instinct made her want to interview Sun Shisheng, but at the moment she stepped on stage, her heart reached an unparalleled level of calm in an instant.
Reason prevailed.
At this time, faced with the whole world, she naturally couldn't afford to make any discourteous moves.
"May I know your name?" Chan Yinsha asked with a smile. "Please tell the audience your name aloud."
Zhu Jia answered, "My name is Zhu Jia, and I'm a reporter from Jiangnan Satellite TV."
"So, do you understand virtual reality?" Chan Yinsha continued to inquire.
"Honestly, my understanding of virtual reality is limited to what you've just described," Zhu Jia said self-deprecatingly, yet her liveliness was unaffected, "But I believe that in the future, virtual reality will definitely be integrated into everyday life, even into the spiritual practice proposed by Mr. Sun Shisheng."
"That's correct."
Chan Yinsha nodded, clapped her hands, and two staff members brought a large device onto the stage.
The device consisted of three intersecting rings, with structures to fix the limbs and torso, and a helmet resembling that of a motorcycle, all in silver and very sleek.
"This is the device that allows one to enter the virtual world!"
Chan Yinsha's lips curled up as she introduced it to the audience, then looked at Zhu Jia: "Miss Zhu Jia, please go ahead and get on; the staff will help you put on the device."
"Alright, no problem," Zhu Jia said, a bit nervous, but she put on the body-fixing structure with the help of the two staff members.
"Miss Zhu Jia, do you feel anything now?" Chan Yinsha asked.
"Compared to my normal state, my limbs and body don't seem to be bearing any significant weight; it feels like I'm wearing a very light backpack."
Zhu Jia spoke of her feelings and performed various movements.
Jumping on the spot, running, doing broadcast exercises, spinning...
All sorts of movements were possible, indistinguishable from doing them normally.
Within the fixed structure of the apparatus, three rotating rings, inner and outer, ensured the joints connecting the body wouldn't entangle and knot up.
Furthermore, the device could assist and ensure the performance of a wide range of motions by the human body.
Some elites present had already foreseen that the device itself could provide excellent exercise for all body parts if weights were added.
Perhaps the device was primarily for physical training, and the so-called virtual reality was just to keep the exercisers from getting bored.
Consider the difference between exercising in a room versus on a scenic, open meadow.
At the very least, one's spirit would be more vibrant in the open.
Deceiving the eyes and brain might also be a form of spiritual practice, aiding in deep sleep.
"Now, Miss Zhu Jia, you're about to enter the virtual world, are you excited?"
"Excited."
"Then, are you ready?"
"I'm ready."
"Alright, begin." As Chan Yinsha's voice faded, the staff switched on the power, and a blank scene appeared on the big screen, with a figure slowly materialising.
It was Zhu Jia.
She opened her eyes and looked around the blank world.
"Miss Zhu Jia, can you hear me?"
Chan Yinsha's voice sounded.
"I can hear you."
Zhu Jia in the apparatus nodded her head, and the Zhu Jia on the big screen nodded in sync, without any noticeable delay.
To the naked eye of the audience, there was no delay.
Then, on the big screen, two images appeared in front of Zhu Jia, one with bullets flying everywhere, and another depicting two swordsmen standing on the eaves, as if they were about to enact a summit duel.
"There are currently only two virtual games available, Taixu Illusory Realm's Martial Arts Supreme and Elite Battleground. Miss Zhu, which one would you like to choose?" asked Chan Yinsha.
"Elite Battleground," Zhu Jia pondered for a while before speaking slowly, "After all, if I really enter the virtual world, I have absolutely no clue about martial arts, and I might not even be able to use any skills."
"Guns are a bit easier, just aim at the enemy and pull the trigger."
In Zhu Jia's opinion, the virtual situations in these two games were not like on the computer where you could just click the mouse to shoot bullets.
Instead, you'd need to actually pick up firearms.
Compared to cold weapons, firearms seemed to be the better choice.
"Then, please click on the image of Elite Battleground," guided Chan Yinsha step by step, and Zhu Jia followed the instruction to click, causing the surrounding whiteness to instantly dissipate.
Zhu Jia's figure then appeared in a plaza, alone.
In front of her, four images appeared, corresponding to four maps.
Classic Island, Tropical Rainforest, Harsh Desert, Ice and Snow Island.
Zhu Jia chose Ice and Snow Island.
Then the surrounding scene vanished again, and she arrived at a spawn point with houses and snow.
The audience watched all of this, disbelief in their eyes.
Because the environment there didn't look like 3D modeling, it was completely identical to reality.
Zhu Jia curiously surveyed her surroundings and then noticed other players gradually entering, though most of them were only in their underwear.
And Zhu Jia?
She was dressed in reporter's attire, the same as on the virtual reality device in the real world, with trousers and a white shirt, looking youthful and pretty.
"I'm going to beat ten in this round!"
"Definitely going to get the victory!"
"Damn it!"
"Why does that person have skins?"
"And, what's up with her movements? The character is moving?"
"Or did they update it?"
"..."
The players were excited, until a bald man shouted after noticing Zhu Jia's distinction, and then a crowd surrounded her, asking questions and even touching her.
However, since the game hadn't started yet, even if they hit Zhu Jia, only a few red blood effects came out.
Yet this scene left the audience even more astonished.
Those people weren't bots?
Acting as the host, Tang Zichen voiced the confusion of the audience, and Chan Yinsha generously explained, "The game entered virtually is naturally connected to computers, but only the big screen shows the real environment. The computers on the market aren't powerful enough and can only display a sort of 3D cartoonish image."
As time passed, everyone boarded the plane, and the audience truly saw the inside of the plane.
Just two rows, facing each other.
The environment seemed cramped but could accommodate a hundred people.
Skydiving.
For players, a press of a keyboard button sufficed, but from the audience's perspective, you had to push a button on the seat, then an opening would appear below, and you'd fall right through it.
