Chapter 88: Chapter 88: I'm back, Frieren...
A tantalizing moan echoed in the room. Tōhru frowned in displeasure at the sight, while Kasumigaoka Utaha couldn't help swallowing hard.
Gulp—
She clearly heard herself gulp. But there was no helping it—this scene was impossible to ignore.
It was just getting her blood sucked, so why had it turned out this way?
Shouldn't there be cries of pain? The neck was punctured and bleeding!
Why did it look so enraptured and filled with pleasure?
Watching Chisato's intoxicated expression and the flush coloring her face, Kasumigaoka Utaha felt increasingly restless.
If it were her being bitten… Kasumigaoka Utaha recalled that to let him suck blood, one had to "stimulate his desire." Letting him see some skin... Wait—this guy might be deceiving them, right? When had she ever heard of vampires needing "a bit of stimulation" before biting?
She'd never heard of that!
She looked over at Chisato's enraptured look and then at him, who still had his head buried into her neck. Exactly how long was this going to last?
Was he trying to drain her dry? Wait, no—apparently there was also the part about giving her his blood. How did that work?
"Tōhru, how come she's taking longer than I did for him to bite?" Tōhru, noticing that he was still latched onto Chisato's neck, spoke up, dissatisfied.
"Wait, what did you say?" Kasumigaoka Utaha thought she'd misheard and asked Tōhru again.
"Chisato's being bitten longer than I was."
"You already had your blood sucked by Chen?"
"Yeah."
"…When did that happen?"
"Yesterday. Hehe~ I was the first one whose blood Chen-dono drank!" Tōhru boasted smugly.
Kasumigaoka Utaha's mouth twisted with a complicated expression. "At that time, what did it feel like? Did he ask you to undress?"
"I did undress on my own, so Chen-dono couldn't help wanting to suck my blood," Tōhru answered honestly.
"So he really does need stimulation?" Kasumigaoka Utaha knitted her brows together.
She didn't think too far about it. Probably Tōhru intentionally removed her clothes to seduce him. She knew Tōhru's intentions quite well by now. Same with Chisato.
Recalling that, she glanced again at Shichen and Chisato. He was still burying his face, and she remained with that flushed look of ecstasy.
How long was that going to take?
She worried he'd drain her. Then again, apparently, he'd have to give her blood afterward. She had no idea how that was done.
"Tōhru, what did it feel like for you?" she asked again.
"Um…very comfortable, kinda addictive," Tōhru replied truthfully.
"Comfortable getting bitten? Doesn't it hurt? Or you just don't feel pain?"
"It's not that. It genuinely felt good. In a moment, you can ask Chisato if she thinks the same."
"…I don't need to." Kasumigaoka Utaha shook her head. Judging by Chisato's face, she already got the answer.
"So, are you not going to turn into a vampire? You're still a dragon, or does that make you a 'bloodsucking dragon'?"
"I won't. Chen-dono didn't give me his blood, plus I'm pretty sure his 'infection' wouldn't work on me."
Tōhru wasn't entirely certain. She was a dragon, the child of the Chaos faction's Emperor of Demise, with extremely powerful bloodline. Some mere vampire's blood shouldn't be able to infect her.
But she could clearly sense how unbelievably strong Shichen's vampire blood was, nearly at a pinnacle. Maybe infecting her wasn't impossible.
Kasumigaoka Utaha didn't notice Tōhru's uncertainty; she wasn't that concerned. Her attention was drawn to something else.
"You're telling me that yesterday he just sucked your blood?"
"Yep."
"Wow, so he really is a vampire. All along, him helping me—could it be that he just wanted to suck my blood…?" She couldn't help but suspect.
"Utaha, that's a misunderstanding," came Shichen's voice. He lifted his head from Chisato's neck, lips stained with blood, looking at her with an innocent gaze, denying calmly.
Kasumigaoka Utaha froze, staring at him dazed.
In that moment, he was quite enthralling—his eyes still glowed scarlet, faint red light beaming out. That handsome face glowed with a radiant aura, matching well with those blood-red lips, a rather bewitching sight.
Chisato, on the other hand, was standing quietly, eyes closed. The intoxicated expression was gone, replaced by a trance-like state.
She was feeling the mana coursing through her body.
Although she hadn't yet turned into a vampire, she could already manipulate the mana Shichen had given her.
Kasumigaoka Utaha hadn't paid her any mind, too captivated by Shichen, her own heart racing uncontrollably from his vampire allure.
She forced herself to look away and coughed lightly, turning to him. "So? Not a misunderstanding?"
"Of course not. I'm not that kind of person. Besides, we didn't even know each other when I wasn't a vampire."
He answered so matter-of-factly that Utaha's confusion only grew. "You said you weren't a vampire back then? What do you mean?"
He sighed slightly. "I gained this power during my absence. Strictly speaking, I only recently took on a vampire's abilities."
"You got them recently? Like Chisato did? You were turned by a vampire?"
"How could it be…?"
"Then how did you get them?"
"Let's just say I absorbed a vampire's powers."
"How? You just said the place you went to was dangerous, so you needed abilities to protect yourself?"
"Exactly."
"I see… So, what about Chisato right now?" She glanced at Chisato, somewhat envious.
"I've already given her some of my mana, so she's adjusting."
"And she'll be able to cast magic any moment?" Kasumigaoka Utaha's tone brimmed with envy.
"Mm. She can learn it anytime now."
"Haha~ don't rush. You can watch Chisato use magic, and decide after," he suggested.
"Is there really no other method?"
"You're that unwilling to be bitten by me?"
"That's not it, just…" She paused, frowning. "I can't quite wrap my head around it."
At that, he could empathize. For almost twenty years, she'd lived a normal life, and everything changed abruptly—this was a huge shift.
He had faced a similar shift at first, but his circumstances were different. He had a reason to accept it quickly: his love for these fantasy worlds and its people. She had no such background.
He was about to persuade her a bit more, but decided to drop it.
"Utaha," he said, "Do you think you can still keep living like you did before, now that you're with us?"
She pressed her lips. "I know my old life is gradually gone."
"You could still say you need more time to adjust. Right?"
"…But you said you're about to leave again, and for a longer time, right?" She murmured, her tone uncertain.
"Exactly."
"What?" Tōhru reacted more dramatically. She got up at once and drew close, looking up at him pitifully. "Chen-dono, you're leaving again?"
He offered her an apologetic glance, gently stroking the side of her face in comfort. "Yes, I have something important to attend to, so I must go."
"Then can't you take me with you?"
"Sorry, not right now. Give me some time—if I can bring someone along, I'll definitely bring you."
"Really?" Tōhru said in a faint voice.
"I wouldn't lie to you." He raised his hand in oath.
"All right." Tōhru pouted, unhappy but resigned.
"Good girl." He affectionately ruffled her hair.
Which worked. Tōhru closed her eyes slightly, corners of her mouth turning up. She was getting easier and easier to coax.
"When are you leaving?" Kasumigaoka Utaha asked.
"In the next couple days."
"Mm…" She went silent.
"It's okay." He smiled at her. "At most two or three months. You can figure out your life and plans during this time. Besides, if I can bring others, all of you definitely will come along."
"I see…" Kasumigaoka Utaha blinked.
"I'm not lying."
"That's good."
"So for now…" His gaze fell upon her neck.
"…Wait until you come back." She quickly shook her head, rejecting him.
"Still afraid?" He sighed with a wry smile.
"Imagine if you were the one being bitten!"
"…I get it."
He pictured himself in that position—someone about to drink his blood. Even though it was just an example, it was rather unnerving. So better not to rush her.
He turned to check on Chisato, a tender glow in his eyes. She was still exploring her newly gained mana.
"All right. That's all for now," he said. "Chisato might still need some time to adapt. Let's get some sleep. Utaha, you have school tomorrow."
Chisato had never handled mana before, so she would need a while to get used to it.
"Got it…" She replied, her mind drifting.
Shichen carried Chisato off with Tōhru following behind.
Kasumigaoka Utaha watched them close the door. She stood dazed for a while before returning to her bed to lie down, staring at the now-familiar ceiling. Her mind was a complete mess.
Turning into a vampire, leaving her normal life behind—everything was piling up. She was definitely intrigued but also anxious, having only known him for a short time. Suddenly it was talk of marriage?
All his fault for being so greedy! And two-timing!
At first approaching her as her "very first reader and fan"…he must have had ulterior motives right from the start!
Shichen had no idea she was cursing him in her head. He left quickly so she could slowly process all that information.
He was slightly worried about Chisato, so he carried her back to his room. Of course Tōhru came along, too.
As soon as he put Chisato on the bed, Tōhru followed, instantly changing into pajamas.
"You're so skilled at this," Shichen teased, glancing at her.
"I didn't get to sleep with Chen-dono last night," Tōhru said with justified indignation.
"That was just one night—"
"Chen-dono's leaving soon."
"All right, all right. Then go ahead and sleep. I'll go get Kanna."
"Okay~" Tōhru obediently lay down, the fullness in front of her quite prominent.
Shichen shook his head, turned around, and headed upstairs for Kanna.
She was still playing games, apparently addicted. But she was obedient—he told her to switch off and go rest, and she complied.
She still wanted to sleep with him tonight, but the bed was full. She'd have to sleep on her own tonight. In exchange, tomorrow he'd accompany her again in playing games.
Late in the night, Chisato finished adapting, though physically she hadn't changed. Her pupils remained their original red color. Because it was already quite late, Shichen decided to teach her magic at dawn.
The next day, as the sun rose, Chisato excitedly dragged him to learn magic. She only managed to learn a few simple magics: telekinesis, body-cleansing, conjuring a flower field…plus a defensive spell.
They were all practical everyday spells, with the defensive one as a safeguard—though she could dodge bullets, an explosion was a different story. A defensive spell forming a barrier might stop a blast shockwave.
Originally, she couldn't have learned them that fast, but halfway through, Shichen mentioned again that he'd have to leave soon. Their lesson ended up as more of a back-and-forth banter.
Chisato was also extremely forward. She grasped his hand and pressed it on her chest to let him feel her heartbeat, so he couldn't really refuse.
They ended up tangling until breakfast time, nearly half an hour.
Today's breakfast included Takina as well, but that didn't change much. Everyone had adapted to her presence as if she'd always been around.
After breakfast, Kasumigaoka Utaha went to school, while Shichen first took Kanna out to buy a set of clothes for Inoue Takina, similar to Chisato's uniform. Then he spent the day playing games with her.
With Takina around, the café definitely didn't need him; he was pretty much free.
He also took the chance to retrieve Kanna's shard of the god-core. Playing with her all day, he couldn't help but gather it.
On the second day, which was a Saturday, Kasumigaoka Utaha finally had time to watch Chisato's magic training. But it wasn't how she expected. There were no chants, no "special effects," aside from an occasional magic circle, and it felt more like "pure psychic powers," appearing quite plain.
Surprisingly, that was more to her taste—she wasn't interested in flamboyant chanting or chunni theatrics.
By noon, after having lunch together, Shichen directly left again.
This time he didn't need a grand farewell. Once you do it the first time, it's no big deal the second time. As for explaining it all to Takina, he just left that to Chisato to handle however.
When Shichen opened his eyes again, he was standing in the middle of a forest.
Trees filled his field of vision, greenery everywhere, no end in sight. Yet to him, it was intimately familiar.
No need to confirm directions; Shichen set off, speeding up in just a few steps.
Thinking of that petite, snowy figure, he couldn't restrain his excitement.
He dashed out of the forest, passing through a flower field. Soon, from a distance, he spotted a small row of three single-story houses.
As he drew closer, his steps slowed, but quickly, he arrived in front of them. Right then, his gaze was caught by a petite white-haired silhouette in front of the house.
She was quietly seated, eyes closed. Yet as if sensing his arrival, she slowly opened her eyes.
