Chapter 644: All Kneel Down
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, the previously mentioned blue-flame Priest came to the dungeon once more.
To His utter disappointment, Nerlucius still refused to divulge any information about the "Snake," remaining silently resigned.
Taking advantage of this conversation, Chen Lun learned the name of this blue-flame Priest from a Bishop accompanying him: Willis.
Before leaving, Priest Willis squatted in front of Neil with a candle, speaking coldly:
"Even if you don't speak, the Church has found some clues based on your 'Holy Fire' trait... The abilities of 'Beast Taming,' 'Divination,' and 'Flicker' are very similar to a path called 'Destiny' that exists beyond."
"..."
Neil remained with his head lowered, giving no response.
Willis took a deep breath and said in a deep voice:
"If you are unwilling to disclose information about the 'Snake,' then tell the Church about 'Destiny' and the other path knowledge you possess. I will guarantee in the name of Klein's Holy Land that your wife Rafaela and children will live peaceful and happy lives, undisturbed by anyone."
When his family was mentioned, Neil's body slightly trembled.
Yet he still did not speak.
Priest Willis waited for quite a few minutes, finally sighing heavily, gesturing as he stood up.
"Take him to Brilliant Square, His Majesty and the Pope have been waiting for long enough."
"Yes, Lord Willis."
Two priests from the Redemption Church unlocked the shackles on the wall, but Neil's hands and feet were still in chains as they lifted him out of the cell.
The chains dragged on the ground, producing a hissing sound of friction.
Along the dim corridor illuminated by torches, Neil was brought to the surface by the clergy and walked amidst the curses and stares of countless Royal City residents to a spot in the center of a square.
The two Redemption priests let go of him, and Neil fell to his knees with a thud.
Facing the glaring light, he raised his head to see a large group of people seated on a high platform in the distance.
Members of the royal family and Empire dignitaries, dressed in luxurious attire, whispered amongst themselves, casting curious yet indifferent glances his way.
The Brilliant Emperor Schroeder, His Majesty, was at the forefront.
Queen Tully was seated beside him.
With the light at their backs and their expressions obscured, Neil could only guess their looks of disdain and indifference.
On the other side of the platform, parallel to the royal family, was a group of Redemption Church clergy in blue robes, with dozens of Bishop-level figures present. Among them, the Pope of the Imperial Church, Domingos, slowly stood up.
He was an elder, with deep-set eyes gazing down from a face full of wrinkles, as he opened his mouth and spoke:
"Despicable servant of demons, Nerlucius, for twenty-six years, you have slaughtered church personnel, persecuted the Empire's people, infiltrated the Church to steal the glory of our Lord, and desecrated the Gods... In this moment, do you have any intent to repent and atone?"
Wounded all over, Neil knelt on the ground, staring intently at Him.
His expression was indescribably strange.
It was a kind of serene calm, with a mocking smile slowly creeping across the corners of his mouth.
The old Pope Domingos frowned slightly, and the expressions of the gathered Bishops and blue-flame Priests darkened. Even His Majesty Schroeder's expression turned grim at Neil's sneer.
"Repent? Atone?"
Neil gradually felt his body beginning to rapidly recover under that familiar power.
Wounds healed, physical strength came back.
He spoke lightly and then actually stood up from the ground.
The two Redemption priests responsible for overseeing Neil witnessed this, their expressions changing slightly as they attempted to press him back down, only to suddenly realize that their hands had grown covered with pale crystallization at some point.
"Snake..."
The Redemption priests managed to utter a single word before completely transforming into crystalline statues, lifeless.
"The one who needs to repent is you! Your Majesty, the Pope!"
Neil shouted loudly.
He immediately utilized supernatural power, causing the shackles on his hands and feet to burn into molten iron, dripping down.
"The one who needs to atone is the Brilliant Empire! It is His Majesty Schroeder and the Redemption Church! It is the blue Pope of Klein's Holy Land and all the blue-flame Priests! You have angered the great Snake, and now! Immediately! Kneel before me!!"
Neil's roar echoed across the entire square.
The final words "Kneel" abruptly changed in pitch, delivered in a deep, magnetic voice that didn't sound like Neil's at all.
"Absurd!"
His Majesty Schroeder angrily shattered the cup in his hand.
Queen Tully, the Princes, Princesses, and other royal family members and dignitaries changed color; they had never seen such an arrogant condemned man.
The audience was in an uproar.
Numerous onlooking residents of the Royal City broke into a tumult, curses mixed with excited roars resounding all around.
On the platform of the Redemption Church, seven or eight blue-flame Priests rose simultaneously, while a crowd of Bishops and Priests also stood up in anger, glaring at Neil in the center of the square.
"Desecration of His Majesty, desecration of the Church, desecration of the Gods..."
Pope Domingos said coldly with hands clasped behind his back.
"In the name of the Candelabra Goddess 'Sitheko,' I sentence you to Hell!"
"Didn't understand the words?"
Neil's voice completely transformed into that of another strange man.
He suddenly raised his hand, shrouded in shadow, and pulled it downward.
"Everyone, kneel!!"
Buzz---
A terrifyingly powerful force of gravity instantly enveloped the entire arena.
