I've Become the King of Villains in the Game

Chapter 450: Everything is Under Control

"General Maiersa, this way,"

Two aides escorted the Anlong military's general as they evacuated from the back of the camp.

One of them approached and whispered:

"Your orders have been relayed. The Seventh Legion will detonate all the explosives on time... Besides, the Second Legion, which was deployed ahead of time, is already waiting in the underground tunnels. They will come to support us soon, and we will leave together with the main forces."

"Very well."

General Maiersa said expressionlessly.

As he walked briskly, he straightened his military cap and dusted off his shoulders, as if not wanting his subordinates to see his disheveled appearance.

Soon, the Anlong troops who received the retreat order kept arriving, following the team of military leaders at the back, and entered from a nondescript bungalow at the northeast corner of the Bridgehead Fortress.

Inside was a different world. The living room was devoid of furniture and decorations. It was empty. In the middle of the floor, there was a huge underground passage entrance, squarely shaped, capable of accommodating dozens of people side by side. Steps led down to the dim area below.

Soldiers were already guarding the place, and when they saw the arrival of the generals and other seniors, they immediately saluted.

General Maiersa nodded to the soldiers, ready to enter from the underground entrance, when suddenly a messenger ran up from behind, his face full of anxiety.

"Hmm?"

The general stopped and frowned at him.

"General, the Seventh Legion has sent an urgent message stating that all the detonation devices have failed... The explosives we buried earlier might not detonate on time!"

"Damn it!"

General Maiersa couldn't help but curse on the spot.

He knew time was of the essence. If they couldn't detonate the explosives, all their plans would be in vain... Not only would they lose this important military fortress, but they also wouldn't be able to slow the enemy's progress. Their troops' retreat could likely be intercepted midway, resulting in extremely heavy casualties, or even total annihilation!

The strength of the Imperial Army was evident to all, and no one could be sure if they would live to see tomorrow's sun.

"Do you know what caused it?"

General Maiersa forced himself to calm his agitated mood and asked in a deep voice.

"We're not sure yet... but according to Colonel Mireille of the Seventh Legion, it might be an issue with the explosives, causing the timing devices to malfunction,"

the messenger said pale-faced, wiping sweat from his brow.

The other senior members of the command looked at the general, all aware of the severity of the situation.

"What do we do next, General?"

Someone asked.

General Maiersa paced back and forth with a gloomy face. After a few breaths, he looked towards his aide.

"It seems we must send someone to detonate the explosives up close... "

"But General... there are over a dozen explosives areas under the Bridgehead Fortress, and they're not connected to the big bridge on the other side. We don't have many members of the Suicide Squad left; it might be difficult to accomplish this mission..."

the aide said awkwardly.

He then hesitated a bit before speaking:

"If we forcefully assign other legions to execute this, the Royal Family and the United Military Command might have objections to your decisions... "

"The United Military Command? To hell with them! Soldiers are meant to obey!"

General Maiersa burst out angrily after hearing the aide's words.

"As if dealing with the powerful Imperial Army wasn't enough, our allies are still nitpicking over trivial issues... I don't even know how we're supposed to fight this battle!"

Composed of three principalities and dozens of smaller states, the Anlong United Kingdom was not as united as it appeared on the surface. Various contradictions had already arisen internally... Because of the war, the temporarily formed United Military Command was always making things difficult for Maiersa.

He had been holding back his anger for a long time.

"Make those from the Undead Foreigners who pledged allegiance to the Royal Family do it!"

General Maiersa said grimly.

"Exactly, this kind of task should be theirs..."

The other military leaders thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement.

The Undead Foreigners wouldn't truly die, making them very suitable for such missions.

Seeing this, the aide turned to signal the messenger, who quickly nodded in acknowledgment.

"Yes, General. I will immediately relay your orders to the Undead Foreigners Legion."

He said, turning and leaving the place.

Not long after, players from the Miracle Guild who had just been resurrected from a corner of the Bridgehead Fortress after a recent skirmish received a new mission prompt from their panel.

"Hmm? A new mission?"

A player wondered.

But as they read through the mission description, their faces turned pale.

"Shit! The military is using us as sacrificial rearguards!"

"Quick, contact the guild leader and vice chairman to see what we should do next."

The members quickly used the chat channel to contact the guild's senior management.

However, after a few minutes of silence, the guild leader asked every member to accept the arrangement.

"—I know everyone is upset, but we don't have any other choice right now. If we refuse the mission, we won't only lose all our Affection with the Royal Family's Crown Prince, but we might also be labeled as 'rebels', leading to being hunted and captured later... Though it will waste one Resurrection opportunity, the Experience Points from this mission are not low, compensating us a little for our losses... Besides, through this campaign, I and other seniors have seen that the Anlong United Kingdom is very likely to be defeated, so we are planning for the future. Brothers with ideas can have a private chat with the vice chairman. Let's figure something out together."
