Chapter 112 Dead Soldier Dead Soldier, Dying Over and Over Again
Five players spread out their positions and pulled the triggers towards the church guardians.
Bang! Bang Bang Bang!!
Steel balls tore through flesh, emitting a dense thud, as one guardian after another fell to the ground, turning into their experience points.
"You Red Apple Church guys, times have changed!"
Doghead Gold swept away the frustrations accumulated since the closed beta and laughed heartily as he shot and killed the enemy.
"Damn blasphemers!"
Both monks were furious.
Woof! Woof!!
Several large dogs draped in red cloth also sprang out and lunged at Polaris and his party.
Their speed was fast, instantly disrupting the rhythm of the players.
"Damn! Not the dogs! I hate these creatures... Ah!"
Doghead Gold sprayed a guardian to death with his firearm but couldn't reload or dodge in time, and was instantly knocked over by the rotting hounds, with one of the large dogs biting through his throat.
Seeing his comrade vanish in a white light, Horseman and Forget No Taboo tensed up.
"— Use up all of today's resurrection times; kill as many as you can. Contribution degree is what matters for the mission!"
Polaris sent a short message calmly.
He and Su Keying exchanged glances and leaned back to back to prevent the large dogs from flanking them.
Bang Bang!!
The buckshot blasted from the firearms was fairly effective against the rotting hounds. The powerful impact flung them away, and despite their ability to get up after having their body tissues damaged, they were hindered and less threatening.
But soon, two heavily armored halberd guardians joined the fray.
The situation began to become one-sided as Polaris and his allies realized that their firearms were essentially ineffective against these adversaries.
Bang—Ping Pong Clang!
The small steel balls left dents on the metal armor, unable to break through. The two robust guardians wielded their halberds, and in an instant, Horseman and Forget No Taboo were cleaved in two, dissolving into white light.
"— To hell with this! Got one-shot!"
"— Polaris bro, we'll wait for you at Jack's estate at the Resurrection Point. Die quickly!"
With three comrades gone who had drawn enemy fire, Polaris and Su Keying couldn't hold out much longer. Gritting their teeth, they kept firing, taking down a few more guardians before quickly being overrun and slain.
The five players fell one after another, and soon the church's grand hall fell eerily silent.
The two monks had gloomy expressions as they surveyed the mess. The bodies of guardians and rotting hounds lay haphazardly, wooden benches toppled in disarray, some smashed into splinters.
"What kind of Dead Soldiers are these?! Daring to assault the church of our gods!"
"Search! We must find out who sent them! Tear them limb from limb and bury them in Lady Rose's garden to repent for ten thousand years!"
The monks' teeth nearly shattered from clenching as they coldly ordered the guardians to start cleaning up the mess. One of them turned to leave to report the invasion to Bishop Newman.
The cleanup had only just started.
Standing in the inner courtyard of the church, a monk chanting prayers and other guardians carrying bodies suddenly heard a shout growing louder:
"Onion! Your daddy's here again!"
The monk looked up sharply.
He saw five familiar figures, grinning and joking as they approached once more.
"!!"
The monk's face showed extreme shock.
"...Impossible! You bunch of blasphemers, you've actually been resurrected!"
"Making a fuss over nothing! Blast him!"
"RUSH B!"
Bang bang bang!!
"Argh!!"
The monk let out a pained cry as he was blown away by the buckshot and fell heavily to the ground.
With several more gunshots, the guards carrying bodies were added to the pile of corpses in the next second.
The monk struggled to rise.
His monk robe was tattered, with indistinct flesh and blood underneath. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and glared angrily at the five young men and women.
"Heretics shall be judged!"
The monk's clothes burst as his body swelled, turning him into a small giant.
"It's a Transcendent! Focus fire and shatter him!"
The Horseman, with his keen eyes, saw the opponent transforming and charging over and loudly reminded the others.
The other four quickly turned their gun barrels and fired at the burly Monk.
With a rattling of gunfire, the Monk couldn't withstand the firepower and, unwillingly, toppled in front of the five men.
"Geez... scared the hell out of me!"
Doghead Gold wiped his sweat, breathing a sigh of relief.
They all received the kill reward, their faces showing delight.
"Transcendents are indeed Transcendents, even when the Experience Points are split, we still get so much..."
The Horseman commented.
The group quickly cleaned up the battlefield. The dead Monk gradually dissolved into a pool of blood, and the Spirituality and Transcendent substance that separated out formed a spoon-shaped [D-grade Mysterious Object].
Polaris scooped it up in one go, and the others immediately glared at him in anger.
"Polaris! You planning on hogging it all for yourself?!"
"Let's ROLL for it later, focus on the important stuff first,"
he said calmly.
"If you think it's unfair, whoever gets the [Mysterious Object] can compensate the others with something."
Hearing this, the other four said no more.
ROLLing meant throwing dice, the one with the highest Points got the item.
The Red Apple Church responded swiftly; soon after they had killed the Guardians who stayed behind for cleanup, reinforcements arrived immediately.
However, this time, the lead was taken by a middle-aged man in a noticeably more refined and subdued robe.
Polaris threw a "Scout" their way, his pupils contracting.
"—It's a BOSS-level character!"
The others were shocked.
They all followed Polaris' example, "Scouting" the leader. When they saw the series of unknown horizontal lines and the dark red "Extremely Lethal" danger warning, they couldn't help but hold their breath.
"—A BOSS fight now?"
"—This guy's called Bishop Newman, what do you think?"
"—We're bound to die if we face him; he's not an opponent we can handle at this stage. Split up and run, just pulling aggro from the lesser mobs will be enough!"
Polaris sent a secret message and, without looking back, turned and fled.
The others were startled at first but then scattered and fled.
"Chase them! Capture them all!"
Bishop Newman commanded coldly.
He casually grabbed the candlestick from the prayer stand nearby and gave it a slight flick.
Whoosh!!
The sound of cutting through the air came.
Su Keying turned her head just in time to see Doghead Gold being struck straight on by a streak of silver light. The candlestick pierced through his chest, killing him instantly.
"—Damn it, why is it always me dying first?!"
Doghead Gold collapsed to the ground and turned into white light and departed.
Dozens of Church Guardians, holding short swords and accompanied by rotting hounds, chased after the remaining four players.
"Who in the world is so audacious!"
Newman, repressing his anger, stood straight at the church entrance, looking at the courtyard filled with corpses.
Whistle—!
A whistle sounded.
Newman suddenly became distracted, his thoughts drifting.
Black feathers fell like rain from the sky as a figure with a top hat descended from above, his cane whirling a streak of silver light, smashing down! Your next chapter is on empire
Bang!!
Bishop Newman's body flew sideways, crashing to the ground and rolling, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Jolted awake by the sharp pain, Bishop Newman clambered up from the ground.
His forehead's veins bulged, his malevolent eyes fixed intently on the attacker not far away—
"Jack!!"
