Chapter 13: Adventurer Ranks
-Good morning Lord Christopher-.
-You look beautiful Lady Selestia-.
-Lord Christopher, sell me that sword, I'll give you a good price-.
-Lady Selestia, these arrows will make a very good combination with your Elven armor-.
People, stall owners and the occasional passerby greeted them in the best possible way, very energetically and with huge smiles on their faces. Christopher and Selestia were analyzing everyone present while they continued on their way to the guild since Christopher still had to report on the status of his mission.
-Just by observing it is quite difficult to tell who could be a potential enemy- her gaze was being directed towards the left flank, moving her eyes from one side to the other Selestia studied each person who was currently in the commercial area, the area through which they were passing -discovering them would be somewhat problematic-.
-At least we know that our people have nothing to do with it- added Christopher, observing the entire area corresponding to the right flank -we can discard all of them, leaving only those on the outside, as planned-.
-Obviously our people would never do something like that...- they stopped watching because right now there was really no point in putting any effort into that, there were still many things to check and based on that, measures would be taken.
Christopher was quite thoughtful, many things had happened and it wasn't even noon yet -what do you think had happened to the guild, the guild master only sends the messenger when something potentially serious has happened-.
-Even though he tried to hide it, I could clearly see the tense aura that the messenger was transmitting- there are not many things that can escape the incredible perception of the Elves and that included the aura of the people themselves. If the person is extremely tense, this will affect the perception of the same. This was precisely what Selestia saw in the guild messenger. An aura that denoted extreme tension.
-Let's hope it's not something so bad, we already have enough to worry about- Selestia.
Suddenly and completely out of the blue, a certain thought crossed Christopher's mind -Selestia, you know that while I was returning from my mission I met a Nue.
-What?- asked his sister with wide eyes. And no wonder, the Nues are extremely strong and very dangerous magical beasts. If one does not have enough ability to face it alone, one should be considered dead meat.
-You fought that thing? Christopher, you're crazy- she reproached him very harshly with expressions of annoyance and concern -to face it one should be an experienced knight or a Bronze rank adventurer. You're still a PORCELAIN!- Selestia didn't mean that her brother couldn't defend himself, but defeating him was totally out of the question.
-Has he attacked you? Are you hurt? Let me see you- Selestia inspected every visible part of her brother's body in this way, and even though Christopher repeatedly pointed out to her that she didn't fight against it, she simply ignored him.
-Selestia- I call her- I already told you not to fight with the Nue because he was carrying Roger and Macky, I hid and luckily he didn't see me-.
-I don't care- she got angry- even if the same blood doesn't run through our veins, still, I'm your sister and that's something a sister would do for her stupid human brother-.
Christopher couldn't help but smile with all his heart. This was Selestia, who at the tender age of five lost her biological parents. She was adopted and raised by the Hope family who over the past ten years have shown that they truly love her.
I place my hand on top of the beautiful Elf woman's head - even though they are not your biological parents, Mom and Dad have always considered you as their true daughter. And I have always considered you as my true sister, we are united by something stronger than blood.
-I know- she answered a little shyly- even though they are not my biological parents, I have considered them as my real parents for years. They have taken care of me for ten years, you have no idea how much I love them. Especially you, why do you think I worry so much when you face dangerous beasts?... At least take me with you so I can help you-. With this Christopher could not help but feel some remorse because Selestia had asked him on more than one occasion to let her know when to go on a mission and he had never done it.
Selestia adjusted the collar of his suit again. "Do you still want me to buy you breakfast?" he asked as Selestia nodded. "Well, let's go to the guild and collect the reward. I promise to buy a delicious fruit cake for my beloved Elf sister."
...
They were already very close to the guild, almost reaching the end of the shopping area. Then they just had to walk a little further until they reached the Guild. This is where something caught their attention.
-Selestia look- said Christopher.
At first glance, and completely ignoring the fact that it is still quite early, many adventurers are seen doing everything possible to court the girls of Gignit. These adventurers do not care at all what race each girl belongs to, whether she is a human, a Demi-Human or even a Beast Woman. The adventurers simply want to conquer them.
The girls were dressed both as civilians who were passing by and also in uniform because they were on work schedule.
Many adventurers were lucky, as they had apparently finally achieved their goal of winning them over and agreed to go on a date at the end of the day. It even seemed like a show, as everyone around cheered when one of the girls, after much insistence and blushing, agreed to go out with the adventurer.
Even more amusing was when they saw a SILVER-ranked adventurer trying his best to get a cute Demi-Human from the Rabbit Clan to agree to go on a date with him. The girl was actually very cute and eye-catching. Due to the extreme embarrassment that was currently plaguing her, her long ears drooped to the sides of her head.
Red eyes that made her a unique beauty, grayish hair and a pompous tail of the same color that protruded from the back of her clothes. Place where the triangle-shaped hole was located so that her tail could pass through it.
The girl covered her face due to the extreme embarrassment she was feeling, although at the same time she was quite happy, after all it was the first time that someone showed interest in her as a woman, praised her and made her feel so beautiful.
-My God, what do I do?- the pretty Demi-Human thought to herself, hard as a statue. It was the first time she had been through this type of situation. She didn't know how to act or how to respond to the adventurer's invitations.
Meanwhile, the girl's coworkers supported her by cheering in chorus - ACCEPT! ACCEPT! ACCEPT! - over and over again. The truth is that the pretty Demi-Human did want to accept going out with the guy, in fact, she realized that he himself had visited the store on many occasions just to see her.
She took some courage, took a deep breath and with a crimson face she looked at the boy who was at least twenty-five years old -o-okay- she did everything she could to speak normally, although it was impossible -I'll have some free time after noon, if you really want to go out, come find me and we can go eat together-.
-WOOOOOOOOOO- everyone present shouted, causing the girl to almost faint due to the intense shame that hit every inch of her integrity.
-OH YEAH!- the young adventurer shouted excitedly in cheers, he looked extremely happy and with an ecstatic face, he had won the contest -all my efforts were worth it- with both hands he held the girl's pretty hands -I promise to win your heart and then we will become boyfriend and girlfriend and end up getting married-.
-Get-Get-Married?- the girl murmured as all her coworkers screamed with excitement and happiness while she fainted in the arms of a Dark Elf woman who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant for people who choose to consume vegetables and fruits.
-Boy- she called him smiling- you better come back later, or do you want your future wife to have a heart attack- she said laughing and was even funnier when she saw that just as she mentioned that the girl in her arms seemed to squirm in embarrassment.
For a moment Christopher thought it was some kind of show, although he knew very well that many people from outside, be they men or women, have fallen in love with the residents of Gignit without taking into account the difference in race.
-It's good to see our people happy- Christopher said with a smile. -The races are getting along and even pairing off-.
On the other hand, Selestia didn't look happy at all, rather the emotion she radiated was closer to sadness -Christopher- she called him -why do the humans outside want to do so much harm to our people?-. Christopher's eyes opened like never before and it was the first time he had been asked this type of question.
-Why do they want to sell us as if we were merchandise?... if I had been born in some city within the human empire, what would have happened to me? Would I be sold? Raped by whoever my master is? Would I be beaten? Would I live on the streets or would I already be dead?- her eyes reflected the sadness that was accumulating in the depths of her heart, Christopher even lowered his gaze and it was the first time he didn't know what the hell to say.
-Why is there so much difference between the humans outside and in here?...- he looked at his brother -here inside I have a father and a brother who despite being of the human race love me and spoil me immensely. They are wonderful human beings whom I love and adore with every fiber of my being...- he looked at the ground -it is not fair that our people have to go through bad times and be kidnapped-.
-I don't even know how to answer you...- even though everything she said was the damn truth, with what she saw today she could know that not everything is true and that out there there are many other humans who really are good people -look at those adventurers Selestia, you see that they are trying to conquer the Demi-Human girls. Look at their reactions when they accept them- Selestia saw that just at that moment a Demi-Human from the canine clan agreed to go out with a human boy and he hugged her tightly saying things like that ever since he saw her she had seemed like the prettiest girl of all and he couldn't stop thinking about her.
-Maybe there are many humans out there who want to hurt us but there are also good humans who would be happy to help us, don't you think?- he gave her a light tap on the head -Roger and Macky, the boys I rescued are two brothers of different races. The girl from the goat clan and the boy is a human who considers his sister's life, despite being a Demi-Human, to be much more important than his own life. Not everything is so horrible Selestia-.
She nodded because with Roger and Macky's case she could realize that there were truly good humans outside the city.
-I really want to meet you- Selestia changed the topic of conversation -I hope you can recover quickly-.
-Doctor Wayne is treating them personally, it is more than obvious that they will recover- Christopher.
...
After so many twists and turns and so many inconveniences that have occurred, they have finally been able to reach the union headquarters.
Now, the question is, how come there is an Adventurer's Guild in the city?
First of all, over the past ten years, Gignit City began to become visible and well-known among the cities of the Human Empire. From being just a town where some races coexisted without problems, it became a small city with a potential to be exploited. On the guild side, the guild association recognized Gignit City as a key point outside the domain of the Human Empire, since Gignit is outside the vast territories of the empire.
Adventurers outside of human territory can now stop by Gignit City to collect their rewards at the guild located there. They no longer need to make long journeys to one of the many cities within the territory.
This is a very positive point for Gignit, and the Guilds' association could not miss this great opportunity to have a subsidiary outside its territories.
The guild association stressed the importance of introducing a guild to the city, as possible missions to subjugate the threats in that area would be the order of the day, and the guild knew that it would have plenty of profits.
With that, profits grew, as adventurers now came from all over to collect their rewards or stock up on supplies for long journeys.
As the city continued to grow, it became necessary to carry out expansions and solve the problem of lodging, since they could not leave the adventurers and visitors sleeping outdoors. So the expansions brought with them the construction of inns to accommodate the adventurers and visitors who were just passing through the city.
The owners of the inns mentioned are all inhabitants of Gignit who knew how to profit from building inns. They have everything necessary for the comfort of their clients.
This may not be the commercial area where most of the stalls and supply stores are set up, but as far as weapons, armor, and the like are concerned, almost all of them were set up in the vicinity of the guild. This is precisely to benefit the adventurers who prefer to be in this area when it comes to buying their weapons.
There are also stalls and stores selling certain herbs that help one heal faster. By combining different types of herbs, one can make potions and many other things. Potions help one heal wounds received in battle faster.
They are not miraculous medicines that instantly restore your vitality, but they help you become completely healthy again as the days go by.
There are certain types of infusions that give you more energy, like a kind of energizer, but that's where it ends. There's nothing as ridiculous as having a kind of health bar appear in your field of vision that tells you how much health you have left.
One thing that does happen is that as you gain more knowledge and defeat different types of opponents, you gain experience in battle. But as mentioned, when you win, no text appears in your field of vision indicating that you have gained XP or something like that. Experience is gained over time. (I know it had nothing to do with it, I just didn't find the time to include this in the story).
Moving on, the herbs and concoctions were mostly made by the Elves of the city. They cultivate these herbs in a way that only they know how. The herbs, concoctions, weapons, armor and other gadgets used for fighting are in incredible demand by the adventurers entering and leaving the city.
From the outside the guild looked quite nice, it was large and gave the impression of having at least three floors not including the ground floor, several well-decorated windows located in the east, west, north and south quadrants. The roof of the house was triangular in shape, the tiles were brown.
The windows are made of armoured glass, dark and opaque so that no one can see what is happening inside if they look in from the outside, although there is a very good reason for this.
The interior remains a mystery to both Christopher and Selestia, and for this there was a very good reason too.
The brothers approached the reception area outside which was located next to the entrance to the adventurers' guild. The door was made of what was once a strong oak, painted in dark colors. The figure of a scorpion was painted on the door, the same with the golden doorknob, also carved on it was a scorpion with its tail held high.
Two pillars support the balcony which provided shade to those in charge of the reception outside, two young humans, a boy and a girl of at least twenty years of age.
Both young men were wearing the official uniform of the union workers, quite elegant. They had a big smile on their faces, it is one of the union's policies, a person who does not smile is not fit to serve other people.
-I see you have successfully completed your mission- said the female receptionist -you managed to find the place where the Slimes that ate the Elves' plantations were hiding and then you got rid of them- the receptionist smiled -very good job- the young Demi-Human adventurer of the feline clan, the chain marked her as someone of PORCELAIN rank.
After being congratulated she nodded with some pride, she apparently is a very newbie as she had the smile of someone with those characteristics, added to the rather basic equipment she was wearing which screamed that she has become an adventurer very recently. She had some slight wounds caused by the acid jet which is the offensive means of this kind of Slimes, although only a few drops fell on her forearms.
That didn't mean that she was bad or anything like that. In fact, not a single adventurer of the higher ranks usually makes fun of those who have just started. Because they were once in that position, in fact, they encourage them and give them advice to continue, not to give up and above all not to lose their cool against the enemies.
-The core of the Slimes you brought back work as evidence- the core consisted of a kind of spherical skull without the slightest protuberance and not a single hole in it, it is extremely rare. -This is yours- above the counter the woman ordered what was the reward for the young adventurer. -In total there are ten gold coins, congratulations on completing your first mission-.
Selestia could see how the young adventurer's eyes emitted a glow filled with pride that illuminated the Demi-Human's face -how nice- Selestia heard that the moment the girl grabbed her respective reward and left the place -the more missions I manage to complete, the more food I can buy for my little brother, we will never go hungry again-.
Selestia did everything possible to contain how happy she felt for the young woman. Hearing that the young adventurer would buy food for her little brother almost made her shed tears; her people are progressing.
At the same time that this was happening, Christopher could observe something exactly the same, only this time it was a male, human protagonist, who was talking to the male receptionist.
-I'm glad you came back safely and that you were able to complete your mission as well- this time the male receptionist was discussing the results of the mission with the young adventurer. -In total you have brought the thirty-five purple strawberries requested by the client, in total there would be about...-.
-Wait...- just at that moment the young adventurer lifted the sack he had at his feet where he apparently kept a couple of things -look, when I was collecting the purple strawberries, this little magical beast appeared to me and tried to attack me- the receptionist put his hand inside the sack without the slightest hint of fear, grabbing whatever was in there and pulling it out with his gloved hands.
-Oh- he muttered in surprise, even Christopher was a bit surprised to see the beast. -A Sawtooth Snake and I see you've finished it off with the least amount of damage possible, its skin is intact-.
-I want to sell it to the guild, how much gold will they give me for this?-.
The receptionist made some calculations and then proceeded to give the respective reward to the young adventurer who looked expectantly at all the gold in front of him - the reward for the collection mission is a total of eight gold coins, added to the bonus of two gold coins for exposure to danger due to going outside the walls being a PORCELAIN rank - the face of this adventurer was also worthy of someone who only knows happiness.
-For the Sawtooth Snake... because it's small there won't be many buyers of the scales for making armor or mail, perhaps the scales will be used for making wrist guards and footwear. The guild offers you a total of ten gold coins-.
-I ACCEPT!- he shouted with force, causing a certain smile among the workers in the guild. The young man eagerly collected his twenty gold coins, perhaps thinking of buying something for himself or saving a little.
"It's wonderful," Christopher said, walking forward right towards the receptionists, followed just a few inches behind by his sister.
The workers looked at them and with the biggest smiles on their faces welcomed them - it's good to see you Lord Christopher and Lady Selestia.
The brothers waved back. -It’s good to see you guys, too- Selestia said.
-I see you're all very busy- Christopher smiled, which really made him very happy. "That everyone in the city has something to make a living with."
-That's right- said the young receptionist -but it's good for us because we can show that we are ready to be part of the guild's interior-.
-The interior, huh- Selestia murmured- Do you know what the inside of the guild is like? Have you been able to get in yet, or can you not enter until you are part of the interior?-.
The receptionists looked at each other with a sigh. "Actually, no," the young man said, "we don't even have an idea of what it looks like inside."
Now it was the lovely lady who spoke up - we haven't had the chance to go in yet, but according to what the other workers tell us, the interior is very nice and a worthy place for adventurers. The same goes for the PORCELAIN ranges, right?
And I asked this last question to both Christopher and Selestia, both of them wearing the chain with the PORCELAIN rank plate on their necks. It was as if they were being highlighted in rank, but it was simply out of curiosity, there was no malice in the question.
-That's right- Christopher replied.
-Until we ascend to Bronze rank, we will not be able to enter inside-. Selestia followed.
Christopher looked towards the entrance of the guild and unconsciously smiled a sly smile, as if he were issuing a challenge - I wonder what it's like to be a higher-ranking adventurer.
There is a very prominent and well-known hierarchy of ranks when it comes to adventurers, this hierarchy of ranks dictates all the quests an adventurer can take. Higher-ranked adventurers can take on the difficult quests appropriate to their ranks or they can opt for the lower-ranked quests.
The hierarchy of ranks is composed as follows:
-PORCELAIN RANK: This is the lowest rank in the adventurer hierarchy. Therefore, the gold rewards given for PORCELAIN rank missions are considerably low compared to the rewards given for higher rank missions.
Many times, quests for this rank are a waste of time, and many adventurers think they are a waste of time. But everyone must start from the bottom to reach the top.
The missions are usually to take care of children, help with cleaning and maintenance of houses, look for lost objects, work in shops for a certain number of hours, find lost children, help with plantations and fruit or vegetable harvests, which are often commissioned by the Elves.
Although the missions of this rank seem to be too easy, they also have their level of danger. Because, just as in several occasions the missions are for gathering and so on, in other occasions the subjugation of some beasts or creatures is requested which present a certain level of difficulty. This only implies one thing, even if the adventurers are doing missions of this rank they could die at any moment if they do not take the necessary measures.
Other missions given are usually to catch thieves, rapists and kidnappers who are just starting out in their nefarious criminal life. These criminals tend to be still inexperienced when it comes to committing crimes and they work alone without having any contacts with criminal organizations.
This is the only rank in which adventurers are given the Danger Exposure Bonus in case the missions are to face something which could put your life at risk, as long as the one taking the mission must leave the safety of the city, from BRONZE onwards these payments stop being made because at this rank they are already considered strong and intelligent enough.
-BRONZE RANK: This is the rank where the difficulty of the missions increases, and the amount of gold received as a reward for completing the missions also increases significantly. In this rank, adventurers must be prepared for mortal dangers. They can find missions such as subjugating very strong magical beasts with a much higher level of danger, such as a Manticore or Chimeras, among other dangerous beasts and magical creatures.
Also dismantling very feared and dangerous criminal organizations. Destroying a network in charge of kidnappings. At this level, the "commissioned" missions begin to appear, which are given to the most outstanding adventurers in the ranks.
Many times these missions are to catch a dangerous murderer, rapist, thief, etc. who is not taken to the authorities but to the relatives of one of his victims. Who knows what these people do to these people.
In this range it is necessary to leave the city grounds and venture to other lands (always within human territory) to look for people lost in dungeons and many other things.
From this rank on, adventurers fight using their heads, they are not idiots and they let themselves be carried away by the situation. They carefully analyze each action they must take, and if necessary, they avoid unnecessary fights.
-SILVER RANK: The difficulty level increases dramatically. The amount of gold received as a reward for completing a SILVER rank mission is abysmal, it should be noted that missions from this rank onwards are extremely difficult and with an indisputable level of danger.
If one manages to rise to this rank, it is because, ultimately, he is an extremely skilled adventurer, very powerful and quite intelligent.
There are often quests like: Investigating a dungeon or labyrinth that has recently formed, this is considered by normal people as true suicide. Going to a place that is already dangerous and facing very dangerous beasts. In this way, guilds give a level of danger to these places.
These adventurers are usually in charge of searching for and capturing dangerous and strong serial killers. They stop rebellions and sometimes even defend the empire from invasions alongside the knights of the empire. They also face powerful and fearsome beasts and magical creatures.
-GOLD RANK: The difficulty level is already considered truly insane. The pay is immense, as with just one mission of this rank one could live very comfortably for a few years.
Those who reach the Gold rank are considered the Elite above the Elite among adventurers.
Their missions consist of subjugating Mythical Beasts of colossal power. Fighting against other adventurers of equal rank who have chosen a life of crime. Infiltrating enemy empires and gathering information.
The level of these adventurers' skills and control of magic is almost absolute, their level of power and strength is such that barely a hundred silver-ranked adventurers could confront them and still not manage to defeat them.
They are often recruited to fight against beings from rival empires (Beast Land, Elf Land, and very rarely with the inhabitants of Daemon Land or also known as the world of eternal night).
They also take on missions that involve fighting against the macabre and powerful DAIMONAS.
These adventurers are usually no longer seeking fame, but rather the well-being of their lands and the empire, stopping any hint of war, whether internal or against other empires, at all costs.
They are given most of the missions that consist of destroying hordes of DAIMOMAS considered as ''The Superiors''.
These adventurers are on par with the twenty holy knights of the human empire. But still below the ten Celestial knights.
-DIAMOND RANK: The supreme rank within the hierarchy of adventurers. Considered invincible. Those who are ''Loved by Magic'', there are only ten adventurers with this rank within the human empire.
No one knows their appearances, their places of residence, or even their names. The only thing that is well known is their power, they are so powerful that they are on par with the Ten Heavenly Knights. Their missions are considered only suitable for divine beings. They are often put in charge of repelling the real and mythical, wild and almost invincible Dragons that rarely fly over cities within the human empire.
They take on missions not only from the guild, but also those entrusted by the King of the entire Hyuman Land empire. To subjugate the most powerful and superior DAIMONAS, those who are considered to be the thinkers and capable of communicating with others.
The only thing that can stand up to a DIAMOND rank is another of the same rank, their equals from the other empires, the Celestial Knights of the Kingdom, the strongest beasts and magical creatures ending with the most evil and macabre DAIMONAS.
With the pay of a DIAMOND rank adventurer, a person will be able to enjoy a good life from the moment of his birth until the day of his death, even his descendants will be able to live very comfortably.
-What higher-ranked adventurers earn compared to PORCELAIN rank ones is abysmal- the guy at the reception pointed to the board next to them. On it you can see all the sheets with the mission requests given exclusively to PORCELAIN ranks -although many times, strong enemies appear that are still within the acceptable range for adventurers of your rank, these cases grant more gold, it is still lower than the rewards of higher ranks. But it is above the average of what is normally given as a reward for missions of this rank-.
As it had already been made clear, only in missions of this rank (if the mission warrants it) are the exposure to danger bonus granted. This is because there are cases where adventurers take ordinary missions and they become missions where they risk their lives to a greater or lesser extent, such as the boy who was recently in the place, his mission only consisted of collecting a few purple strawberries but it was complicated when the Sawtooth Snake appeared, which is extremely poisonous and is capable of spitting its poison directly into the eyes of its prey. Apparently the boy was somewhat more experienced because he did not have many problems dealing with it, but if it were another the chances of him dying were very high.
The golden rule of adventurers will always be ''Be prepared for everything and against everything'' no matter what rank one is, everything could change in just a second, a mission that was thought to be very easy could become almost impossible for various reasons.
So, back to the boys. -By the way, Lord Christopher- the young receptionist commented -our colleague from the night shift told us that you took the most difficult mission we had for the PORCELAIN rank. How did it go? Were you able to complete it?-.
-Well, you see- then he dropped the magic sword that was tied to his back and the leaf of the carnivorous plant on the table and proceeded to explain in great detail everything that had happened during the course of his mission. As when he was about to take care of the Goblin and the carnivorous plant ate him, all he had as evidence was the Goblin's sword, he also asked if there was a mission to get rid of a carnivorous plant.
