Chapter 1126 The young cub
[OP: ]
"Miss Moon used to have a tiger friend."
"For real? I mean, a friend?"
Eon broke the bread in two and handed the smaller piece to Zoe.
"Yeah. She, well, she used to live in this big, pretty place where she used to have all kinds of things. I mean, you know how her father used to be a rich merchant? He bought everything she whimsically asked for, even a tiger."
The past that Miss Moon and her father shared, the memory fragment that her father had given her, also contained the memories of when she was younger.
She had forgotten some of those things when she started practicing dark arts, but thanks to the fragment, she remembered those things. At least, some of those things.
"She did not really understand how her father actually sent her a tiger, a young, living tiger. She was just joking when her father asked her to ask him for anything. It was a playful father's rather serious offer, and she still took it as a joke and asked for something she thought she would never get.
Oh, ever since she was young, Miss Moon has liked the Tigers. She actually loved the more colorful ones like Taika so her request wasn't that surprising for her father."
Since her father could not be with her most of the time after a point, he wanted her to have a friend who could be with her as well. Sadly though, the gift that he brought her, the tiger cub that did not have a mother, was going to die in the woods of that forest without any help anyway.
He had searched for the best option, and when he got it, he personally gave it to her. However, she was in no capacity to look after someone else in that… lavish, place.
There were servants, and there were tens of people to look after her, but since her mom was gone already, and since her father spent more time with the people who ultimately betrayed him instead of her, she just did not want the token that would remind her of him.
"She sent the cub away to a safer palace, and then, the young being grew up over time."
As anyone could guess by now…
"That cub is Taika? I mean, really? Miss Moon raised Taika?"
"Technically, no. She surely is the reason we have Taika in our life though." However since her dad technically saved the young cub, she was the reason Taika was still alive.
She was also the one who sent her away to a place where she needed to fight for her life and survive against dangerous things, so she did not know how she should behave before someone from that forgotten part of her memories.
"She doesn't remember how long they spent together, but she has some memories of being with her. Still, she knows the current Taika would not remember that time."
The creatures of the wild go through various transitional phases in their life. There are times when they lose their entire selves and become new individuals.
In the case of natural beings like Taika who are close with nature and hold a prominent position within nature, those who have gone through a certain kind of evolution along with those phases, memories of their childhood become an obstacle so their minds usually hide it away from them.
They don't have to think back to those times when they were the most vulnerable since it might also bring back the unnecessary trauma of that time. They also consciously avoid thinking back to before they were something else so, creatures like Taika usually don't even remember what they were before they became what they are right now.
"They have a purpose and they try to fulfill that purpose." Zoe poured a glass of wine for Eon, and for herself, she poured a glass of water.
"Miss Moon might end up hurting Taika, or so she thinks. She had avoided her until now, but now that we are here, she knows it's not going to be easy to avoid her for much longer.
In fact, there will come a time when Taika remembers everything and confronts her. She knows that time will come sooner or later, so she has to accept this fact and talk with her when she still has the chance."
Bread and wine.
It was a personal tradition of Eon and his master. At least, it used to be their tradition for celebration, and preparation for a great turbulence approaching them– in most cases, whenever Eon was going to enter a new phase of his training, they used to do this.
But this ritual was not related to just his training, but also to their life in this tower, as well as the life of various other beings in the Great Forest of Kamut.
"Hmmm… it's complicated as you said. You know what? It's strange as well… how did Miss Moon find out that Taika was the one-."
"She's a pureblood, Taika I mean."
Apparently, Taika and Miss Moon were similar in more than one way.
"Both her parents used to be higher evolutions of her kind, creatures that had obtained mystical powers. Taika was born with special powers herself, there's a reason she could not improve with the common training methods.
She doesn't know what she is either, and she does not need to know that. Unlike someone like Miss Moon who needed to know about her lineage to understand more about the powers she held, it would only bring Taika pain if she learned how her parents passed away protecting her from a great threat."
They had started their training. It has already been a few days. Rein was soon going to find the room that belonged to Eon, and after she did, she started her training as well.
With the time being limited, Eon was also thinking about testing out the powers that he had obtained, and see what was best for him.
He still needed to understand all that he could do with the power of his stigma, and in addition to that, he needed to help the rest of them improve their art.
"Miss Moon does not know about Taika's past, but the moment she learns about that, she will expose Taika to a chapter of her life that she did not remember.
By doing so, she might also end up opening the memories of when the cub spent the few fun moments of its life with its parents."
Miss Moon addressed Taika formally not because she wanted to show her respect. She knew she was close to her master's father– she was his familiar as well, but more than that, she was close to Anna, who her master was the closest to.
She had a certain past connection with this person. Rein had known about this connection of strings for a long time now, but she never really understood what it was about.
The Monnem Extragia that used to live in a big palace and the maid that served the son of Nolen Heliox were different individuals. There should not have been any connection to that person and a familiar. Taika and Eon's father's meeting was supposed to be a coincidence as well, but sadly that was not the case once again.
"So, big brother, you're saying Miss Moon knew who Taika was instinctively the moment they met? Isn't that quite romantic~? To remember someone you had been with so long ago~?"
Being with Tia and Carla did not seem to be a good influence for this little sister of his. She was getting new ideas about what is called romance.
"It isn't, you silly. I mean, we can call it romantic in the sense that it's a unique situation, but it's not something we should interfere in.
I did not tell Rein exactly because of the sensitivity of the situation. Even if it's Rein, she would inevitably end up doing something that would confuse Miss Moon and a blunder would be made."
He did not want to interfere with this himself. It was complicated already, and he knew this must also be because of his presence, but he did not understand how his birth could change something that had happened before the time he was born.
'What is supposed to happen has already happened…'
He was working on a theory that would explain a lot about his existence and how it could have actually reshaped the entire world. But it was incomplete for now, so he did not think much about this matter.
"Hmm. I see." Zoe nodded and when he was done with his wine and bread, she lit up the fragrance candles before them as both of them looked up at the sky, at the grand constellation of stars that announced the possibilities of the 'unknown' tomorrow.
"We can go through the Gate. It's actually much simpler than we expected." they were afraid of what they would do if the Gate could not take them all back at once.
Anna was still too weak to pass through the Gate, but Zoe had discovered that there was a way for them all to get back at once, and that too, with much less risk than what the two of them went through.
"How long do you need to get 'it' ready then, Zoe?" Eon already had the map of the next three months ready. He intended to be late for his academy time if he could just finish all the things that he needed to.
"Not long, big brother. Not long."
Zoe wanted to help him however he needed, so she was going to work harder and prepare the thing that would take them home.
She had everything she needed, so, now, she just needed to wrap her head around how this tower worked and find out the source of the energy powering everything within the tower. Discover more content at My Virtual Library Empire
After she finds that… they will be able to go back home.
