Chapter 206: ## Chapter 205: Duke Devlin

## Chapter 205: Duke Devlin

"Joey Wheeler?" Hearing the familiar voice, Hayato and Yugi Mutou exchanged glances and walked towards the area where the voice came from.

Pushing through the surrounding crowd, Hayato and Yugi Mutou arrived at the edge of the Duel Field. Calling it a Duel Field didn't seem quite right, as the interior of this area wasn't divided into the large rectangular sections used for Duel Monsters, but rather neatly partitioned into countless squares.

One of the combatants on this field was indeed Joey Wheeler. However, what surprised Hayato and Yugi Mutou was that the other person facing Joey Wheeler wasn't Tristan, but a young man with a ponytail and a headband featuring a black square tied across his forehead.

"What's Joey Wheeler up to?" Although his appearance differed slightly from the anime in his previous life, Hayato guessed the young man's identity based on the cheering of the surrounding crowd. "Why is he Dueling Duke Devlin, and using Monster Dragon Gate Dice at that?"

"Duke Devlin? Is that the genius game designer who invented Monster Dragon Gate Dice?" Yugi Mutou had also heard that name.

Joey Wheeler, focused on the Duel itself, didn't notice Hayato and Yugi Mutou in the crowd. Instead, he looked proudly at Duke Devlin opposite him. "If you've seen how amazing I am, just surrender quickly! Apologize properly for what you said, and I, the great Joey Wheeler, will generously forgive you."

On the field in front of Joey Wheeler, three familiar Duel Monsters, Barbarian No. 1, Barbarian No. 2, and Panther Warrior, had appeared, forming a solid Defense Formation in front of his Duel Platform. In front of Duke Devlin, however, his Monsters had been Destroyed, leaving only the last Gargoyle.

However, the cost of holding his ground was that a large portion of the field was entirely Duke Devlin's blue color, while Joey Wheeler's red area occupied only a very small section.

"It looks like Joey Wheeler has the upper hand?" Yugi Mutou observed the field and roughly understood the rules. Monster Dragon Gate Dice is a game where Dice containing Monsters are placed and Expanded on the field, then used to occupy territory and attack each other. Both players act as dungeon lords, each starting with three Life Points. Each time a Monster is attacked, they lose one Life Point.

Joey Wheeler still had two Life Points, while Duke Devlin had a full three hearts.

But Hayato knew that Duke Devlin was a thoroughly cunning individual. Not only did he like to hide the rules and not explain them all at once, but he was also particularly fond of pulling off desperate comebacks. Although he only had one Monster left on the field, seeing the mysterious smile on Duke Devlin's face, Hayato felt that he still had a hidden strategy.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Joey Wheeler-kun, don't look at how your Monsters have almost wiped out mine. But don't forget, I still have a full three hearts of Life Points," Duke Devlin habitually brushed his right bangs aside and said confidently. "Your Monsters are always turtling on your own field; you can't defeat me like that."

Joey Wheeler said disdainfully, "Heh heh, it's rare for the great Joey Wheeler to be so magnanimous. It looks like you can't wait to see your own defeat, huh?"

"Then it's my turn! I roll!"

Three Dice were thrown from Joey Wheeler's hand, landing on the field in front of him. The Dice stopped, revealing three Move Symbols, which made Joey Wheeler overjoyed.

"Alright! So lucky! Plus the Move counts I accumulated before, my three Monsters can advance all the way to your front!"

"My Monsters, full attack!"

Following Joey Wheeler's command, the Monsters that had been holding their ground on Joey Wheeler's field all advanced forward, stepping into Duke Devlin's territory and approaching his Duel Platform.

"Then, roll the Dice!"

It was Duke Devlin's turn. He rolled three Magic Symbols, and a look of regret appeared on his face. "Oh dear, oh dear, I didn't summon a Monster again. This is bad."

"As expected of a Top 4 Duelist from Duelist Kingdom, Katsuya Joey Wheeler, to be able to push me to this point."

"Heh heh, of course," Hearing Duke Devlin's words, Joey Wheeler chuckled proudly. He took out the three Dice he drew this turn and threw them out. The result was two Attack Symbols and one Move Symbol.

"Alright, with this Symbol, Barbarian No. 1 successfully reaches your front!"

Joey Wheeler commanded his Barbarian No. 1 to move forward, ignoring the Gargoyle which wasn't blocking its path, and successfully reached Duke Devlin's Duel Platform. The wild warrior raised the club in its hand and smashed it down heavily, successfully deducting one Life Point from Duke Devlin.

However, as the price of advancing, Joey Wheeler's accumulated Action Points were finally used up this turn.

Seeing this, Duke Devlin suddenly started laughing. "Heh heh, heh ha ha ha..."

"Heh ha ha ha ha!!!" He pointed at Joey Wheeler with one hand, while the other brushed his bangs aside. "You fell for it, Katsuya Joey Wheeler! My attack route is completely clear!"

"Roll the Dice!" He casually threw the Dice in his hand, revealing a dramatic smile. "Two Level 4 Symbols! I summon my strongest Monster, Griggle!"

However, to Joey Wheeler's surprise, Duke Devlin didn't place this Monster on his own field to block Joey Wheeler's Monsters' attacks. Instead, he placed it in front of Joey Wheeler's Duel Platform.

"N-No good, all my Monsters are on the opposite side of the field!" Only then did Joey Wheeler realize something was wrong. It turned out that earlier, Duke Devlin had deliberately used words to lure his Monsters away from their Formation, and then seized the opportunity to launch a sneak attack. "You scoundrel, you're too despicable!"

"Hmph, it was just a simple verbal trap. You're the fool for falling for such a simple scheme, Katsuya Joey Wheeler!" Duke Devlin pointed at Joey Wheeler arrogantly. "Before I get revenge for that person, I'll use you as an appetizer!"

"Griggle advance to Joey Wheeler's Duel Platform, then attack!"

"Divine Sword Break!"

With a downward slash of its heavy sword, Joey Wheeler's Life Points dropped to only one heart remaining, while Duke Devlin still had two Life Points. Even if he attacked directly next turn, Joey Wheeler's Life Points would reach zero first.

"Damn it, I have to roll for defense this turn." Joey Wheeler threw the Dice in his hand. The Dice stopped, but there wasn't even a single Move Symbol.

"Haha, this way you lose!"

Unexpectedly, Joey Wheeler said confidently, "Hmph, not a chance! This is how I defend!"

"Because I rolled two Magic Symbols, I use Panther Warrior's Special Magic Ability to directly Destroy one Monster!"

"Die, Griggle!"

Duke Devlin, however, showed an expression as if everything was under control. "Is this all the struggle you have left? You're too pathetic as a loser. Let me crush your delusion!"

"Use two Defense Symbols to activate Griggle's Effect! Nullify Special Magic attacks!"

"What!?"

Panther Warrior, having absorbed two Magic Symbols, threw the scimitar in its hand across the field. But Duke Devlin's Griggle simultaneously absorbed two Defense Symbols, forming a magic barrier on its giant sword, completely blocking the attack.

"How could this happen!"

Joey Wheeler's look of disbelief immensely pleased Duke Devlin. He threw his final Dice. "Three Attack Symbols! Then, Griggle, defeat this trash and send him off the field!"

With a swing of its sword, Joey Wheeler's Life Points were completely depleted, and the game ended.

On the surface, Joey Wheeler had the advantage in the first half, but in the latter half, Duke Devlin used words to lure Joey Wheeler into attacking, then unleashed a burst to directly finish him off. This game was completely under Duke Devlin's control!

Thinking this, Hayato turned his head to look at Duke Devlin, only to find that the guy seemed to have already noticed Yugi Mutou and himself, his eyes fixed in this direction.
