Chapter 1197: The Portal Charge – The Trial’s End
As Laura's demonic energy was unleashed, it caused a massive wave of power to pass through the surrounding area, making the hearts of Reign and the others beat heavily as they sensed the power, fully aware of what had happened.
The monsters had suddenly gained a boost in power, and they all knew that it was no longer feasible for them to continue fighting the way they had so far. Laura had been forced to go all out, no longer sparing any strength, fully aware that if she did not do that, she might have been seriously injured by the monster by now.
"Screw it, let's go, full speed ahead, hold nothing back!" Reign shouted as the others did just that. Their powers exploded out of their bodies, their strength no longer kept in check.
Reign's body surged with lightning, his veins glowing blue as his speed and reflexes sharpened to an inhuman degree. Shadow's form melted into the darkness, his tendrils multiplying, each one now laced with a corrosive energy that dissolved flesh on contact. Beast's muscles swelled, his bones cracking as his body fused with the flood dragon, scales appearing on top of his skin, a pair of wings on his back, and a single horn on his forehead.
Wolf's flames roared around him as his body turned draconic as well, only that, compared to Beast, whose body had gained characteristics of the azure flood dragon, his body was covered in scales that looked more akin to obsidian with a tinge of violet. Two horns could be seen on his head, and a pair of jet black wings sprouted out of his back.
Mia's body turned pale, her hair white as frost appeared around her, Greenie's skin turned bright red, and long white hair fell down to the middle of his back as he grew larger, Tank's body turned red as well, and horns sprouted as he also grew much larger.
As for Jin, he also activated his mark, yellow energy coursing through his body and the air around him as he clenched his fists, ready to fight.
In an instant, they all disappeared from the spot, running toward the portal. Previously, it would have taken them about 20 minutes to reach it, but they were much faster in their current forms, not to mention much more powerful, capable of annihilating the monsters in an instant.
The jungle turned into a blur for Reign and the others, who moved as fast as they could through the horde of monsters present around them. The trees around them were broken, burned, uprooted, or blown away, all depending on what struck them, or near them. The monsters, as powerful as they were, could no longer keep up with Reign and the others in the slightest, even a glancing blow was enough to send them flying back, their bodies left a mess.
Everybody was attacking with full force as they moved. Reign's lightning-clad swords were akin to lightning itself, a blur in his hands as they bisected any monster that dared come close, their bodies cut and charred by the powerful lightning. Wolf was using brute force, swinging his sword wildly, causing it to turn blurry as he swung it around as if it weighed nothing.
Even the ground was not spared as the soil beneath their feet was sent flying around them, leaving a trail in their wake. The bodies of the monsters were getting completely destroyed, only chunks and pieces were left after being struck, and yet, they kept coming.
The number of monsters was seemingly endless, and their strength was rising as well. It seemed as if every single step that they took forward was making the monsters stronger, alas, they did not become smarter, merely jumping to their deaths as they continued attempting to injure and kill the party.
Thanks to their immense speed, the distance to the portal was no longer a problem as about 5 more minutes would be enough for them, but none of them expected those 5 minutes to be anything but hellish.
The jungle suddenly changed, the trees twisting, the roots charging out from the soil, attacking them, trying to stop them, to envelop them, to do anything they could in order to slow them down, even for an instant, and allow the nearly endless horde that was around to annihilate them.
"Wolf!"
Reign's shout didn't even end before he and the others moved slightly to the side as a powerful wave of violet flames erupted, scorching everything in front of them. The thick tree roots and branches disappeared, the flames turning them to dust, as they had done to the monsters that stood in their way.
Reign and the others quickly moved, using the open space to try and distance themselves from their enemies, but it was for naught as the opening Wolf's flames had created was filled up in an instant.
Still, they had managed to speed up for a few moments, traversing a distance of hundreds of meters in the moment before the gap Wolf had created was filled, before being forced to slow down again and defend themselves. However, if one saw them, they would not think of their actions as merely defending themselves, as they were slaughtering tens of monsters each passing second, decimating their endless numbers and making it so they could move without being stopped.
We're not gonna make it like this!" Tank bellowed, his shield raised as he bashed aside a monster the size of a bear. "We are using up all our strength, from the looks of it, we will run out of power and revert back to our usual forms before making it to the portal!"
"I know, just keep going forward, when the time is right, I'll deal with it!" Reign said, his swords still a blur as he started using his light and darkness manipulation subtly, only to make himself a bit faster or stronger at times, still not daring to completely utilize it with his blue lightning in fear of running out of power too fast.
'Aethion, get ready to use the army when I give the signal.' Reign told Aethion, who merely nodded his head in agreement, fully aware of the need to utilize the army soon.
Tank could summon his army as well, bringing them out, buying them some time, but it was not worth it. The monsters right now were too powerful for his army to deal with, not to mention that his army was not like Reign's, made up of souls and incredibly difficult to be destroyed.
His unique ability that had come later allowed him to tap into a different dimension, allowing his immortal generals to go to and fro the two dimensions, conquering the latter slowly and taking in more and more people.
Of all the people who had been subjugated or joined them willingly, only a handful had been strong and lucky enough to gain marks that bound them to Tank, making them immortal.
Still, if they died, they would lose strength, while the rest would truly die, bringing the strength of his army down, which was not worth it in the slightest.
A minute more passed, and the monsters had started taking the attacks better, some no longer died or were incapacitated from a single blow, which meant that Reign and the others had to use more energy to slay them and continue forward.
One more minute passed, and they could now sense the portal in the distance, but the monsters were yet again stronger, and their speed had halved compared to what it was initially.
'Aethion, now!' Reign suddenly shouted in his mind, and his soul power activated.
Souls came out of his body, leaving his consciousness and spreading all around them, attacking the monsters. The souls that Reign had taken from their fallen foes were not that powerful, none could defeat the monsters, but their numbers made up for it, not to mention that their goal was not to slaughter the monsters, but to weaken them, slow them down, and make them easier to kill.
With the appearance of the invisible souls, Reign and the others were yet again able to kill the monsters easily and pick up speed, racing to the portal before their transformations would end.
The time was tight, they needed about 3 more minutes to reach the portal, and their transformations would end around that time as well. That would be all fine and dandy if not for the fact that they needed to fight the monsters that kept getting stronger and stronger.
Soon, Reign believed his souls would not be able to slow down the monsters by much, and they would once again have to slow down, and indeed, that happened a mere minute later.
They slowed down once again, were being besieged by all sides, and they knew they won't be able to reach the portal on time, which was why Reign used his final trump card.
A black wing appeared on his left and a white wing on his right as he used his Nephilim form.
Suddenly, the monsters were not a threat at all to them, being decimated by him with ease. In the end, they reached the portal just as their transformations ended, and finished the fourth trial.
