Is The Super Famous Sorceress The Villain?

Chapter 4: Why Can't You Be A Normal Person?

"Nananana..."

Classes had started, and I couldn't stop humming with happiness. The whole classroom was staring at me, wondering what had me so cheerful.

"Good morning, Mila! You seem even more upbeat than usual. Did something happen?" my friend Griss asked with curiosity.

"Hm-hm, if I told you, you wouldn't believe me," I replied, crossing my arms and giving her a smug grin.

"Did you buy a new smartphone?"

"Nope."

"Did you fight a hostile gorilla that escaped from the zoo?"

"No!... Wait, what?"

Does she really think I'd do something like that? What kind of image do people have of me? I'm just a sweet, high school girl!

"Katrina was at my house yesterday!" I exclaimed, with excitement, and awaiting for her reaction.

"...Oh." My friend's eyes shifted, and she avoided looking directly at me.

She sighed, then put a comforting hand on my shoulder and spoke with pity. "Mila, you're my friend, and I care about you. You don't have to make things up to get attention."

"No! I'm serious! Why don't you believe me?"

"Umm, because that's what you've been saying all year?"

"It's true, bu—"

I glanced at the rest of the class, who were now paying attention to our conversation. From their expressions and nods, it was clear they agreed with Gris. She looked at me as if to say, "See?"

Shoot! I know I've mentioned it a couple of times... okay, maybe a lot of times... but this time I'm telling the truth!

"Girl, why would the trio encanto bother visiting a gorilla's house like yours? Don't make me laugh." The one who said that was the horrible witch of our class, Claire a spoiled girl with perfect curls and an inflated ego.

"Excuse me? I may have failed many times, but I, Mila Vellert, am not a liar! This time, I'm telling the truth!"

"The fact that you didn't question the gorilla part worries me," my dear friend Griss said.

"Anyway, I have proof this time! Feast your eyes, dear classmates!" I dramatically whipped out my phone, displaying the photo I had taken with Katrina.

"Wait, that really does look like Katrina..."

"See? I wasn't lying!"

All my classmates crowded around me, exclaiming, "Let me see!" and "Wow, it is her!" Meanwhile, Claire bit into her handkerchief, fuming with envy. Haha! Take that!

But my moment of triumph didn't last long.

"Ow!"

Something hard hit the top of my head. It was a ruler, wielded by none other than our teacher.

"Everyone, back to your seats! And you, Vellert, stop yelling!, it's too early for this nonsense. Do you eat gasoline for breakfast?"

"SORRYY!"

"Don't yell!"

Our teacher, Miss Noire, was a slim woman in her mid-twenties with brown hair tied in a neat ponytail and dark circles under her eyes. She was beautiful, especially her emerald green eyes, but always looked like she hadn't slept in weeks.

"Alright, let's do the usual," Miss Noire mumbled as she flopped into her chair. "None of you will ever stand out in the future after all that's the trio encanto's effect."

"The Trio Encanto's effect" was the belief that no one needed to improve their magical skills because the Trio Encanto would handle everything. Miss Noire, like many others, thought it was better to focus on practical careers and forget about natural powers.

Personally, I found that belief sad. Wasn't life more exciting when you dreamed big?

There are five levels of sorcerers:

Levels 1–3: Aware of their powers.

Level 4: Can control their powers, but not perfectly.

Level 5: Have full control over their abilities.

Miss Noire explained, and also said that magical abilities are like muscles, they weaken if not used.

As for me? I've never developed any powers. Yet.

"Vellert! What are you muttering about now?!"

"Ah, sorry!"

After a few minutes of explanation. Miss Noire pulled out her sleeping mask, reclining in her chair. "When the bell rings, you can all leave. And please, Vellert, keep quiet this time."

She always does this when there are 20 minutes left before the classes end.

"Oh, and Vellert, stay after class. I need to talk to you."

"..."

---

The bell rang, and the classroom emptied. I stayed behind, feeling awkward as Miss Noire looked at me with tired eyes.

When I see her, I wonder if Miss Noire sees everything as a bother.

"So, Vellert, what does this mean?" she said, holding up her phone.

On the screen was a photo of me rescuing that girl the other day.

"!!!"

"Well?" she prompted.

"I was just helping that girl, ma'am."

"Helping?"

"Yes! She could've been hurt if I hadn't stepped in."

Miss Noire sighed, rubbing her temples. "Vellert, that was reckless. You wore the school uniform while taking unnecessary risks. And this isn't the first time, is it? Actions like this could get you suspended."

"...!"

"Why can't you just be normal, Vellert? What are you trying to prove?"

Normal? What's being normal? Living like everyone else? No, that's not for me... If I did, I would never be able to keep the promise I made to him.

I clenched my fists, gathering my courage. "Miss Noire, I'm sorry, but I don't think I did anything wrong. Maybe I go overboard sometimes, but as long as I'm not hurting anyone, I won't stop being myself!"

Miss Noire sighed again, her gaze softening. "That look... I won't be able to change your mind, will I? But listen, Vellert, this attitude of yours will bring trouble. One day, you'll thank me for trying to teach you that."

She dismissed me with a wave of her hand. "You can go now."

I sighed in relief.

"However, you will write a 20,000-word essay on why it's important not to cause trouble while wearing the school uniform."

"20,000 words?"

"You heard me."

I turned to leave but stopped when she added, "Oh, by the way Vellerth, it's not that everything annoys me. I just don't like wasting energy on pointless things."

"E-Eh?"

"Did you forget my ability? I can read minds, remember?" She smirked and her eyes shone with a mysterious faint green light.

My face turned red as I realized she had heard everything I thought earlier.

"I-I! M-Miss Noire!!!! I'm so sorry for thinking unnecessary things!" Please forgive me! Please forgive me! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Sorryyyyy!

"It's fine, Vellert. Just please, don't yell."

"...."
