Chapter 260: CA [260]: Return to the Flame
The door to the Hestia Familia's underground research lab swung open, and Altair stepped out, stretching his arms before collapsing onto the living room sofa.
He was back. After escorting Rinslet to Areishia Academy and spending a few days with her there, he'd slipped out of her bed one night while she slept, returning to the Danmachi world. The Seireitsukai no Blade Dance world had paused at his departure, its timeline frozen until he re-entered. Time would resume then.
Sprawled on the sofa, Altair savored memories of his time with Rinslet. The thrill was undeniable, especially these past days as Fire Spirit King, the most indulgent chapter of his life. A grin spread across his face as he chuckled.
"Ow, " His laughter tugged at the fresh wound on his shoulder, courtesy of Rinslet's bite, infused with his dragonized power.
His deicidal physique, bolstered by Est's steel-like grace and feline agility, was stacked with enhancements. Low-end injuries couldn't faze him, but Rinslet's bites, powered by his own strength, hit hard. Especially since this one, delivered just hours ago as she drifted off in his arms, was still tender.
Exhausted, she'd fallen asleep, giving him a chance to slip away.
Rubbing the spot, Altair noted it'd stop aching soon. His passive healing was relentless, even suppressed, it'd erase the mark in days. To keep it, Rinslet bit him near-daily, a ritual that often led to her being pressed down and claimed by him, in bed or elsewhere, on most days.
What if he stayed away too long and the mark faded? She'd bitten him before sleep; if it was gone by morning, wouldn't that look odd?
The thought troubled him. During his darkened state, he'd bitten her shoulder impulsively, sparking her fixation on marking him. It was a playful intimacy they shared, but now it posed a logistical challenge.
"I'll need to pop back soon." He muttered. "Let Rinslet's bite me again, and maybe linger a bit."
If he lingered too long in another world, like a dungeon, and the mark healed, he'd claim it was an accident, ask for a new bite, and enjoy their time together. Perfect.
Proud of his plan, Altair grinned again.
Minutes later, the pain subsided. Hestia, Saeko, Tiona, and Tione emerged from the bathroom, fresh from their bath.
"Altair!" Hestia squealed, launching herself at him.
"Hestia." He laughed, catching her in a warm embrace. Habitually, he leaned toward her neck, inhaling her scent, nearly kissing it before catching himself.
"Haha, that's tickles!" Hestia giggled, unfazed by his closeness, finding it endearing.
"Sorry, sorry." Altair said, pulling back. He'd grown used to nibbling Rinslet's neck during embraces; with Hestia, he'd nearly slipped up.
"It's fine, just ticklish!" Hestia beamed, snuggling closer, relishing his affection.
"Let's go, I'll dry your hair." He offered.
"Yay!" Hestia chirped, shifting to sit in his lap as he grabbed a towel.
Saeko, meanwhile, dried Tiona and Tiona's hair, the "parents" Tending to their lively sisters.
"I've got something to tell you." Altair said, toweling Hestia's hair.
"What's up?" Hestia asked, squirming playfully, making Altair sigh inwardly. Thankfully, his recent time with Rinslet had sated him, or he'd have reacted more.
"I took a trip." He said.
"To that place?" Hestia caught his meaning.
"Yep. I contracted a holy sword and became a Spirit King." He raised his right hand, summoning a resplendent longsword radiating searing flames. The room warmed, heat rolling off the blade.
"This… it could kill!" Hestia gasped, divine instinct warning her of its lethal power.
"Exactly. This is Est Terminus, the strongest sword spirit. I used her to devour the Fire Spirit King of that world. Now, Est and I share his authority."
"Fire Spirit King?" The girls leaned in, curious.
"Let me explain." Altair began, detailing the Seireitsukai no Blade Dance world, Spirit Kings, spirits, and his Blade Dance exploits. He omitted Rinslet, his hidden beauty.
Altair, keeping a secret wife? Unthinkable!
"So, I gained Est and became the Fire Spirit King." He concluded.
"You're even stronger now!" Hestia cheered. As his goddess and lover, his growth thrilled her.
"Right. With Est, I've got the ultimate weapon, an evolving holy sword."
"Awesome!" Hestia clapped.
But she paused. "Wait, you said Est can become a girl?"
"Yeah, a cute one." Altair nodded.
"Can she transform now?" Tiona and Tione asked, eyeing the sword.
"Not yet. After absorbing the Fire Spirit King's power, Est merged with her true form in the Elemental Spirit World. It's complex, so she's sleeping, fusing her powers. When she wakes, you'll meet her."
During the devouring, Altair had used his authority to locate Est's true form, merging it with the Fire Spirit King's power. She'd been dormant since, even during his time with Rinslet.
"Bummer." Tiona pouted.
"She might wake soon, maybe tomorrow." Altair said, sensing Est's stirring, though unsure when.
"When she does, she can take human form and act freely, but I can summon her back instantly."
"Another Familia member!" Hestia waved her fists.
"She's a sword spirit, not a Familia member." Altair clarified.
"No matter! She's your contracted spirit, like a fairy in our world. Elves here are magic-users, but if she's with you, she's Hestia Familia!" Hestia declared, humming proudly.
She didn't care if Est joined officially. The nine thousand loli fairies in Gensokyo, uninterested in adventuring, helped run her shop for a quiet life. Yet Hestia claimed them as Familia, too.
She didn't suspect anything between Altair and Est. She trusted him completely, despite his horde of loli companions, he'd never crossed lines. He loved only her and Saeko, with Hestia as the unshakable main wife.
"One more thing." Altair said, dismissing Est. He extended his right hand, a fiery power gathering in his palm.
"As Fire Spirit King, I can form contracts, making others Fire Elemental Princesses to wield my power. Want to sign up?"
