Chapter 216: CA [216]: Wishes
"Father, Master, I'm here!"
In an alley outside Trifas, Mordred materialized, appearing before Altair and Kairi. Following her Master's command, she had unleashed her Noble Phantasm, bombarding Frankenstein with a crimson beam of light.
Frankenstein, forced to respond, activated her own Noble Phantasm. But hers was less offensive, more akin to a self-destructing bomb meant to take her enemy with her. The clash with Mordred's light cannon left her no chance of survival. Fully unleashing her Noble Phantasm, Frankenstein perished in the explosion.
With Frankenstein defeated, Mordred seized the chaos to slip away.
Now back with Altair and Kairi, Mordred was brimming with excitement. They'd fought, won, and secured the Greater Grail. Their team had struck gold in this Holy Grail War.
"Let's move. We're still too close to the battlefield. We need to get somewhere safer." Altair said.
Summoning a golden cloud, Altair whisked the trio away at breakneck speed, far from the conflict. To evade Jeanne and the remaining overpowered Red Faction servants, he pushed the cloud to three times the speed of sound, leaving a long trail in the sky. After a lengthy flight, they reached a forest near Romania's border and stopped.
"This should do." Altair said, scanning the secluded area. In his draconic form, he sensed no magical energy within dozens of kilometers, no servants, no magi. It was safe to proceed.
"You really got the Greater Grail?" Kairi asked, still grappling with disbelief. Wasn't that thing enormous? During World War II, Darnic had needed a battleship and an army to steal it from Fuyuki. How could one person just take it?
"Absolutely. I have a Noble Phantasm that can store objects." Altair explained. With a flick of his hand, he tossed the massive Greater Grail from his spatial pocket. The spherical relic, adorned with statues of three goddesses, crashed to the ground like a meteor, carving a crater and embedding itself in the earth.
"This… this is the Greater Grail!" Kairi gasped, staring at the colossal orb radiating dense magical energy that spilled into the surroundings. He'd never seen it before but had heard of its size. This had to be it.
"The Greater Grail is essentially a mass of magical energy, drawn continuously from the ley lines. It can power grand-scale magecraft, even magic capable of altering the world. That's its essence. Of course, it can't achieve anything too outrageous, but fulfilling modest wishes is well within its reach." Altair explained, gesturing toward Kairi. "Master, you go first. Make your wish."
"Me, first?" Kairi looked at Altair, surprised. He'd assumed a servant would be more eager to claim the Grail's wish, yet here was Altair, yielding to a Master who'd contributed little to the war.
"My wish can wait. What about you, Mordred? Got any wishes for the Greater Grail?" Altair asked, turning to her.
"Nah, I don't need that thing." Mordred said, glancing at Altair with a contented smile. "My wish is already fulfilled."
Though this was a King Arthur from a parallel world, Mordred had grown to fully accept him over their time together. He, in turn, embraced her, her knightly code, her quirks, everything. In his world, he'd even passed the throne to her, joking that she was too busy to visit him in Avalon.
This world satisfied her. It proved she had the potential to be a king, recognized by one. Her failure to become king in her own world was simply due to that stubborn Saber's thickheadedness.
As for wishing on the Greater Grail? Hmph, she didn't need it.
"What about you, Father? What's your wish?" Mordred asked, curious.
"My wish? I answered the summoning to see you, my only daughter. Back in Avalon, I'm just a lonely old man stuck with Merlin and Morgan. They're both so dull, I wanted my dear Mordred to keep me company." Altair said with a grin.
"Oh, come on, Father! Are you saying you got lonely without me?" Mordred teased, chuckling. A parallel-world Father who doted on his daughter? Too amusing.
"Exactly. I'm a man who gets lonely easily, and only my adorable Mordred can soothe my heart." Altair replied without a hint of shame, reaching out to ruffle her hair playfully.
"But you belong to this world, so you can't stay with me forever. Plus, I've got to keep an eye on Merlin and Morgan to stop them from causing trouble. So, my wish is simple."
"Oh? What's that, Arthur?" Kairi leaned in, intrigued.
"I gave my holy sword to my world's Mordred, so now I'm stuck swinging a makeshift blade forged in Avalon. I want the Grail to grant me a new holy sword, one that can counter magic. You know, Merlin and Morgan are always stirring up chaos in Avalon. Every time, the fairies come running to me to put out their fires. Without a holy sword, it's always a hassle, so I want one tailored to deal with magi."
A sinister grin spread across Altair's face. "When I get back, I'll make them behave, or I'll teach those magi a lesson!"
His menacing expression sent a shiver through Kairi and Mordred, who could vividly imagine the headaches Merlin and Morgan must cause him.
"Go for it, Father! I'm rooting for you!" Mordred grabbed Altair's shoulders, nodding enthusiastically. She, too, had suffered at the hands of Merlin and Morgan, so the idea of her Father putting them in their place thrilled her.
"Alright." Altair said, giving Mordred's head another affectionate pat before turning to Kairi. "Master, hurry up. I'm waiting to get my holy sword from the Greater Grail."
"Right, right, I'm on it!" Kairi shook his head with a smile and approached the Greater Grail. His wish was about to come true.
