Volume 2 Chapter 126
126. The Trial
“Damn it, how could this happen!!”
In the Hechi Gang’s headquarters, Jiye was furious, and with a slap of his hand, he smashed the table to pieces.
This frightened Sali.
“Jiye, calm down,” he advised, “No matter how angry you are now, the fact that Miss Mu Guang has been arrested and taken to the court is already set in stone.”
“I’m calm, you’re calm! Stop pretending to be the voice of reason here!”
Jiye immediately grabbed Sali by the collar, his angry eyes looking as if he was about to swallow the man whole.
“Tell me, did you deliberately betray Miss Mu Guang and let the new nobles capture her!!”
“No, how could it be me! How would I dare to defy Miss Mu Guang!!” Sali hurriedly shook his head to explain, “I really don’t know anything, I’m being wronged!!”
“You must be lying. Today, I’m going to pry open your mouth and stick iron skewers under your fingernails to see if you’ll tell the truth!”
Sali turned pale. He believed that Jiye was truly capable of doing such a thing. His territory was now completely controlled by the Hechi Gang and the Cangqing Gang. As long as Jiye and Chen Tie agreed, killing him would be all too easy.
“I’m being wronged, I’m really being wronged!!”
“Alright, Jiye, don’t be like this.”
Sera patted Jiye’s shoulder, signaling him to calm down.
“Mr. Sali is also very anxious right now and is very concerned about the young miss. He’s been helpful, right?”
“Yes! Yes!”
Sali hurriedly followed Sera’s lead.
“If we can rescue Miss Mu Guang, our Baitao Gang… no, I should say all the gangs in Corolle, should go through fire and water, and spare no effort!!”
“Tsk, I’ll believe you for now!”
Jiye temporarily let Sali down.
The leader of the Baitao Gang now truly felt like he had survived a disaster.
“Why did the new nobles make a move against Miss Mu Guang?” Chen Tie was a bit puzzled.
“What else could it be? It must be because we touched their cheese!” Jiye snorted coldly, “In the past, the three major gangs of Corolle were in a state of mutual competition and not united… to them, we were insignificant and could be easily manipulated, even trampled on! You have experienced this yourselves!”
Chen Tie didn’t need to say anything; just thinking about how he was betrayed by the young master of the Elvin family, Oba, and how his brothers were captured to take the blame, made him grind his teeth in anger.
“Before, we took on tasks from the New Chamber of Commerce to help them do business and even provided escort missions to deliver goods to war-torn areas abroad for sale. Many brothers were injured while protecting the goods.”
The leader of the Baitao Gang, Sali, also looked embarrassed and became increasingly angry as he thought about it.
“But in the end, the New Chamber of Commerce actually withheld our remuneration! They even said that we were incompetent and that our injuries were self-inflicted! It was simply a betrayal of the contract. If this were in our gangs, we would have to chop off our fingers!!”
The new nobles not only exploited the poor in the lower district, but they were also greedy and insatiable. They took advantage of the gangs in Corolle, and they would not let go of anything that could create value for them.
“Miss Mu Guang appeared and was about to unite our gangs. We finally had a chance to stand together against the New Chamber of Commerce, but they schemed against her. They simply won’t let us live!”
Jiye continued to fan the flames, “Why should we be inferior to them? Must we be restricted by the laws they set?”
“You don’t mean…?!” Sali was surprised.
“Do you want to continue to swallow your anger?” Jiye asked Sali, “Didn’t we become gangsters to make a living? But now, don’t we look like we’re kneeling and begging? If they’re not happy, they’ll smash our bowls and we won’t even be able to beg for food!”
“I…”
Sali hesitated, stealing a glance at Chen Tie.
“I’ve had enough of them for a long time! If we keep enduring like this, when will it end? If one day they don’t like the look of us, they’ll do what they did today to us!”
Chen Tie grabbed a piece of the shattered table and crushed it into powder in his hand.
Sali’s heart was very conflicted. He had long been fed up with the new nobles. Originally, he thought that… if he could unify the gangs and become the king of the underworld, he would have a chance to integrate all the gangs and contend with the New Chamber of Commerce to gain some say.
Now, it seemed that the Hechi Gang and the Cangqing Gang, due to Miss Mu Guang, had already started thinking about resisting the new nobles.
Although the result was not as expected, the opportunity he wanted had indeed come.
“With just the gangs in Corolle, it would be too much of a stretch to go against the Security Team, right?” Sali voiced his concerns, “The Security Team’s forces are well-equipped, and they are stronger than our brothers in terms of combat experience and strength. With just us, it’s really too much!”
Jiye and Chen Tie both fell silent.
Because this was the truth.
“We may need other assistance,” Sera reminded.
“That’s right!” Sali very much agreed with this point, “You’d better think this through. This is not something that can be done just by getting hot-headed. If we fail, no matter whose life it is, it will be lost!”
“Damn it, if only someone could come and help us now,” Jiye sighed.
“But now, in Corolle, besides our gangs, who else would be willing…” Chen Tie frowned deeply.
The atmosphere of the discussion gradually reached an impasse.
At this moment, a voice suddenly rang out, breaking this somewhat desperate atmosphere.
“We can offer help. You need us, and we need you.”
“Who?!”
Sali raised his head and looked outside.
At this time, a strange man walked in, his eyes shining like torches in the night.
“The Shadow King of the lower district, the rebel who came back from the dead,” A’Jin said, “is now a follower of Miss Mu Guang.”
……
A night passed.
Due to last night’s emergency announcement, the dragons in the central district of Corolle had all gathered to witness today’s trial.
The Court of Judgment was different from an ordinary court. It was held atop an open-air high tower.
Below, a dense crowd gathered, all able to see the silver-haired dragon loli on the tower.
She stood in the defendant’s seat, her head lowered, her expression unseen.
The court would use special magical artifacts to amplify the conversations during the trial… and at the same time, it would project the defendant’s state into the sky above the city of Corolle for everyone to see.
“Is she the criminal?”
“Silver hair, silver eyes…”
“It seems she has committed a very serious crime. The new nobles are all present.”
The dragons were chattering away, Corolle had never been so lively.
Arland Elvin led a group of new nobles, sitting in an excellent position on the tower, happily watching.
The new nobles were discussing how to deal with the impostor, how to clean up the Cavendish family, and looking forward to a bright future.
The judge slammed his gavel hard, and the sound, amplified by magic, reached every corner of the city, causing everyone to quiet down in unison.
The time for the trial to begin had arrived.
“The Court of Judgment of Corolle is now in session. Defendant, do you know what crimes you have committed!?” The judge questioned.
An invisible pressure spread out, even the dragons below the tower felt it, all wanting to bow their heads.
Arland smiled, ready to watch this young dragon crumble under the pressure, mentally breaking down and spilling everything.
“Come on, show your disgrace, hahaha!”
However, the scene Arland envisioned did not appear. Instead, Xia Yi’s first response made his laughter come to an abrupt halt.
