Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Fight Between Lim Kriss and Elder Pung Han
The sky over Dead Mountain was calm, but the air crackled with tension as Elder Pung Han stood across from Lim Kris at the temple entrance.
Behind him, fifty warriors of the Fire Clan waited in silence, their eyes burning with expectation.
Pung Han flexed his hands, flames curling between his fingers.
Pung Han (grinning):
"I admire your courage, princess, but standing alone against me is foolish."
Lim Kris tightened her grip as water spiraled around her wrists, cool and steady.
Lim Kris (calmly):
"You don't belong here. Leave."
Pung Han chuckled, his aura flaring.
Pung Han:
"Let's see if you can make me."
Without warning, Pung Han hurled a spear of fire directly at Lim Kris.
She reacted instantly, summoning a wall of water that erupted from the ground, extinguishing the flames with a sharp hiss.
Steam filled the air as Lim Kris stepped forward, directing streams of water to hover at her sides like blades.
Lim Kris (firmly):
"I won't let you pass."
Pung Han grinned wider, raising his hand. A ring of fire formed beneath his feet, expanding outward like a blazing sun.
Pung Han (mocking):
"Let's turn up the heat."
Lim Kris responded by lifting her arms, and the streams of water hardened into spears, glinting in the sunlight.
The two clashed.
Pung Han's flames danced across the ground, but Lim Kris moved swiftly, her water slicing through his attacks.
Each time fire met water, steam exploded, shrouding the battlefield in mist.
Pung Han lunged forward, flames coiling around his fist as he struck toward her chest.
Lim Kris twisted her body, blocking the strike with a spinning shield of water that sent him skidding backward.
Pung Han (thinking):
"She's faster… more precise."
He glanced at his hand, feeling the sting of cold seeping into his bones.
Pung Han (gritting his teeth):
"Your water… it's stronger than before."
Lim Kris (calmly):
"I've been training."
Pushing Beyond Limits
Pung Han narrowed his eyes and raised both hands toward the sky.
A massive fire dragon coiled above him, its molten eyes locked onto Lim Kris.
Pung Han:
"Let's see if your water can stop this!"
The dragon descended, roaring as flames cascaded toward the temple steps.
Lim Kris stepped forward, exhaling slowly.
She extended her arms, and the stream around her expanded into a towering wave, surging high into the air.
With a graceful motion, she brought it down, crashing the water directly onto the fire dragon.
Steam erupted violently, shaking the mountain.
When the mist cleared, Pung Han stood alone, panting heavily. His dragon was gone.
Lim Kris remained standing, her breathing steady.
Pung Han (thinking):
"She extinguished it completely… without hesitation."
The Final Blow
Pung Han charged, flames erupting from his feet as he sprinted toward Lim Kris.
She met him head-on, summoning a blade of condensed water in her right hand.
Their clash sent shockwaves through the air.
Pung Han (yelling):
"Why do you stand alone, girl? Where is the one protecting you?"
Lim Kris held her ground, parrying his fiery strikes effortlessly.
Lim Kris (softly):
"No one protects me. I stand on my own."
With a swift motion, she struck his shoulder, the water blade slicing cleanly through his flames.
Pung Han stumbled, dropping to one knee. His flames flickered weakly around him.
Pung Han (breathing heavily):
"Impossible…"
Lim Kris lowered her weapon, watching him carefully.
As he knelt, Pung Han gazed up at the temple behind her.
His eyes narrowed as he examined the small, simple structure.
Pung Han (softly):
"Who… taught you?"
Lim Kris looked at him for a moment before answering.
Lim Kris (quietly):
"No one."
Pung Han frowned, shaking his head.
Pung Han:
"You're lying."
Lim Kris turned away, stepping back toward the temple.
Lim Kris (calmly):
"Believe what you like."
As Lim Kris walked inside, the air around the temple shifted.
The once simple and modest hut began to shimmer, revealing a towering structure bathed in golden light. Ancient phoenix statues stood on either side of the entrance, their eyes glowing faintly.
Pung Han's eyes widened.
Pung Han (thinking):
"This… this isn't just a hut… it's an immortal temple."
A faint glow radiated from the temple's core, and the outline of a phoenix soared above it, leaving behind trails of light.
Pung Han (whispering):
"I've seen the ancient phoenix…"
His eyes softened, and he lowered his head in respect.
Pung Han (softly):
"To witness such a place… even in defeat… is a blessing."
His flames extinguished completely as he closed his eyes.
His body dissolved into ashes, carried by the wind.
As the phoenix's glow faded, Lim Kris swayed unsteadily.
Her vision blurred, and she stumbled forward, gripping the temple wall for support.
Lim Kris (weakly):
"M-Master… I…"
Before she could finish, her body gave out.
She collapsed near the temple entrance, unconscious from the overwhelming energy she had used.
From the temple steps, Chen Franz emerged, gazing down at the fainted Lim Kris.
His calm eyes shifted toward the fifty Fire Clan warriors who had watched the battle unfold.
Warrior (panicking):
"Elder Pung Han is gone… let's get out of here!"
The warriors turned and began running down the mountain.
Chen Franz raised his hand toward the sky, golden lightning crackling around his fingertips.
Chen Franz (softly):
"I can't let you leave. You've seen too much."
A bolt of divine lightning descended, striking the retreating warriors.
In an instant, all fifty warriors were reduced to ash.
Chen Franz lowered his hand, stepping toward Lim Kris.
He knelt, gently lifting her into his arms.
Chen Franz (softly):
"You did well… rest now."
As he carried her inside, the temple's aura sealed once more, leaving Dead Mountain in peaceful silence.
