Chapter 962 The Final Request
The War God of the Wilderness demonstrated unmatched combat prowess, unleashing the supreme strength of his peak moments with a spirited gleam in his eyes, embodying an air of invincibility.
Even whilst plagued by illness, he never retreated; each punch he threw was filled with overwhelming dominance, and more terrifyingly, instead of weakening over time, his blows grew increasingly fierce.
His eyes blazed, vaporizing the void, and the cries of those from Beyond surrounding the Wilderness rang out as they evaporated into nothingness.
Back in the day, he could contend with the Heavenly Emperor and was known as the War God, so how could his strength be anything but formidable!
With such an outburst, giving his all, he became even more powerful than at his peak!
"You dare besiege my Wilderness!"
The War God of the Wilderness, with his hair billowing, soared into the skies.
As a mighty one from Beyond was arranging a formation, the War God grabbed him with his palm, and with a booming sound, the entire person exploded into a mist of blood, which was then absorbed into his battered body.
He was extending the duration of his frenzied battle by consuming others' immortal substance.
"War God of the Wilderness, no matter how much immortal substance you devour, it cannot heal your injuries!"
This person shouted, his complexion also looking very unpleasant.
The combat strength of the War God of the Wilderness was too immense; even though he was severely injured, he remained unparalleled in battle strength, leaving his high-ranking opponent helpless.
"It may not be enough, but it can make my final fireworks blaze more brilliantly."
The War God of the Wilderness knew it was futile; with a wave of his hand, he continuously annihilated several mighty ones from Beyond, charging forward and ferociously attacking the man with his iron fist.
The man resisted the War God of the Wilderness, and immediately let out a muffled grunt, his whole body sent flying backward.
"I see how long you can hold on!"
He grew ruthless as well.
"Definitely longer than you can imagine."
The War God of the Wilderness said this to himself.
Explosions boomed within his body, his injuries causing his physique to rupture, yet his strength did not wane as he ferociously struck down his adversaries from Beyond with the fists of the War God.
The heavens and the earth roared immensely.
The magnitude of this cosmic war was overwhelmingly vast.
Suddenly, the War God seemed to transform into a formidable supreme being. He approached his opponent, utterly suppressing his aura, and with a swing of the War God's fist, all time and space around the man were locked.
"This is bad!"
The man internally realized the peril but could not escape anymore, only able to passively take the punch.
His body nearly exploded from the extremely severe injury, yelling at the War God of the Wilderness in shock, "You have already comprehended the supreme path, yet your body can no longer enter this realm. How tragic and lamentable that a mighty existence like you shall fall, and the future universe will lack a Supreme Being like you; your refusal to join us Beyond seals your fate to only death!"
The War God of the Wilderness was too strong, pushing him to this dire state even in his debilitated condition.
Yet he sneered coldly, so what if you are strong? After this battle, you will fall.
The War God of the Wilderness remained silent, his strength growing increasingly formidable, his divine domain encompassing him, ready to execute his final, deadly move.
"Humph!"
The man knew that the War God of the Wilderness realized he wouldn't survive and was determined to take him down with him; this punch, if it landed, could very well kill him on the spot.
Both dying together — it was a foolish exchange he would not partake in.
"I misjudged your strength; you are indeed ruthless, War God of the Wilderness. Rest in peace, I shall conduct your funeral rites!"
The man left, no longer willing to clash with him.
"What a pity."
The War God of the Wilderness deeply wished for him to contend with that last blow, but his adversary simply walked away, and in his current state, he could not pursue and kill him.
The aura of the War God dwindled, unable to maintain his fierce demeanor any longer, resembling an old man nearing the end of his life, he slumped down.
"War God!"
All the people of the Wilderness knelt, weeping for the War God.
"The boys of the Wilderness are not allowed to cry," the War God barked.
"We won't cry!"
Beiming Fengye and the others wiped away their tears, approached the War God, and said, "Please, War God, extract our immortal essence and return to your slumber. For the War God, we can offer everything, including our lives."
"It's useless now. The injury has spread throughout my body. I am like a clay pot, full of cracks. Any more power intake would simply make me collapse."
The War God shook his head. He looked at the heaven and earth. "Many people are waiting for my death. But in this life, I have no regrets. Though I never reached the zenith, I have contended with the supremes."
He stood up and walked shakily.
Someone tried to support him, but he waved them away sharply.
"I am not so weak as to need someone's help. I will walk this path myself."
In the end, he reached a small hilltop, looking at the star that illuminated the Wilderness, now transforming into the sunset. The magnificent twilight light fell like the curtain of his life.
This hilltop was ordinary within the Wilderness, but Beiming Fengye and the others knew it was the War God's favorite spot.
Seeing the War God so aged compared to the earlier display of divine might made their noses sting.
Even heroes face twilight.
"Everything has passed."
The War God thought of his childhood, the parents at home, and the kind and gentle elders of his tribe.
And the little girl who used to watch the sunrise and sunset with him on the hilltop also brought a smile to his face.
The people of the Wilderness did not dare to say anything and quietly saw the War God off.
Perhaps after fighting with all his might, one last battle at the final moment of his life was what the War God truly desired as a resting place.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and said, "Divine Martial Emperor, you've come. Are you here to pay respects to me, a man close to death?"
"I am here."
Chu Yuan arrived in the Wilderness.
The battle had ended, and the otherworldly champions had retreated. He hadn't seen the War God in his prime, only an old man in his twilight.
"It's good. At the last moment of my life, to have the Divine Martial Emperor by my side, I fear not death. Dying in battle is my destiny. I have grown weary of the dormant years. But what I truly cannot let go of is still the Wilderness."
The Wilderness War God quietly said, "Without my guardianship, what will they do? And I can't protect them forever. I see that you have great ambitions. If possible, please protect the Wilderness extensively, as my final request."
"Is this your final speech?" asked Chu Yuan.
"Yes, my final speech. How close death is to me now! Immortality is said to last indefinitely, but it also meets its end. Various great calamities await us."
The Wilderness War God instructed Beiming Fengye, "This is my final order. From today on, the Wilderness will align with the Divine Martial Empire. Everyone shall obey the orders of the Great Emperor!"
He could no longer protect, so he let the Divine Martial Emperor take over the guardianship.
The people of his Wilderness were the finest warriors, still powerful even without him.
"War God!"
Beiming Fengye wept bitterly. If it weren't Death, what else could have prompted the War God to make such a decision?
"Actually, I still desire to battle. The Heavenly Emperor hasn't died, the gods may resurrect, the future universe will be more brilliant, ancient and powerful supremes will arise, so many mighty enemies I have yet to fight. Sadly, I no longer have the chance. I truly wish for a few more reincarnations!"
The voice of the Wilderness War God grew weaker.
"You still have a chance, follow me and conquer the cosmos," said Chu Yuan suddenly.
"Ha ha, Divine Martial Emperor, are you trying to recruit me?" laughed the Wilderness War God. "In my current state, even if I wanted to join the Emperor in conquest, I am powerless. I am nearly a dead man, without opportunities."
