Invasion of the United States

Chapter 7: Lying to Me?

When Zhou Qingfeng bluntly pointed out that the Ministry of Efficiency was unprofessional and not up to standard, Thomas and his "dog" agents felt more than just anger; they felt helplessness and powerlessness.

The Ministry of Efficiency was not a formal institution established with congressional approval but was a investigative department set up by the "Blond" president's executive order—it was as worthless as toilet paper.

The "dog" agents could only conduct investigations. Once they found any leads, they had to hand them over to professional law enforcement agencies like the Department of Homeland Security to execute arrests.

But if the target of the investigation was the Department of Homeland Security itself, could you really expect those bureaucrats to arrest themselves?

Even worse, if something really shocking was uncovered, the bureaucrats could erase all the evidence and declare 'nothing to be found' as a favor.

If they didn't give face, the investigating "dog" agents might be the first to be silenced.

That's why when the "dog" agents found juicy information, they would usually put it online to create public pressure—because they really had no other options.

But most of the time, the bureaucrats of the Deep State had skin thicker than city walls, and public condemnation was just noise to them.

If you didn't have the ability to wipe the spit off your face and carry on, how could you be an official?

"I killed Ellison Parker, that's a fact," Zhou Qingfeng said coldly. "Who told him to send people to trouble me?

He thought he was invincible and believed I wouldn't fight back? Then he deserved to die.

Similarly, when you investigated 'Tree of Justice', you should have expected retaliation instead of being complacent and proud of your official status.

If I were an assassin sent by 'Tree of Justice', you people would be dead by now." He paused and continued, "Have you thought about the consequences if I had decided to kill just now?

The police would have rushed over to handle the crime scene, called your colleagues and family, and the morgue people would have come to take your bodies away. Forensics would have performed a simple autopsy.

A few days later, it would be your funeral, superiors would come to remember your past and say some harmless eulogies.

Everything would be over.

You can ignore my warnings, but at least before you achieve fame and success, you should care about your own lives.

So, think carefully about my suggestion."

Zhou Qingfeng brazenly left this statement, then swaggered out of the first-class lounge of the airport.

Thomas and the other "dog" agents sat in the lounge's large sofa, looking at each other with mixed feelings.

Zhou Qingfeng's words pierced their hearts, showing that the safety and pride they took for granted were as fragile as a thin membrane, easily popped.

Especially the two agents who were hit, they were even more scared at the moment. They involuntarily touched their chests, their minds replaying the painful experience of near-death.

"Boss, what should we do?" The female agent asked uneasily in a low voice, "The plane is about to take off, should we rebook our tickets?"

Rebooking meant "staying behind", but what would staying behind accomplish? Arrest Zhou Qingfeng who just walked away?

Thomas shook his head, his tone firm, "No, we won't rebook, we're heading back to Washington first. We do not cooperate with criminals, that's our bottom line."

The agents looked at each other, no one said a word. But they all knew in their hearts—if they really did not cooperate, should they call the police immediately?

Watching the murderer of the governor walk away, was that the bottom line? Or did Captain Thomas finally come to his senses?

Thomas and his team came to Miami to investigate the 'aircraft carrier smuggling', but their trip was in vain—even Zhou Qingfeng could track their movements, let alone 'Tree of Justice'.

Those guys could leave Miami peacefully, which was the mercy of 'Tree of Justice', or they would've been dead by now.

Zhou Qingfeng had left Orlando a couple of days prior—the US Air Force's E-8 'United Star' couldn't take off daily to keep watch, and thousands of military police couldn't surround the city endlessly.

Over time, without catching anyone, the martial law triggered by the governor's assassination naturally got lifted. This allowed him some limited freedom.

He put on sunglasses, walked out of the terminal of Miami International Airport, and casually waved by the roadside. Soon, Chen Rui's car slowly arrived.

When the car door opened, Kelly was sitting inside. She pulled Zhou Qingfeng in eagerly, passionately straddling him as if reuniting with a long-lost lover.

Chen Rui glanced in the rearview mirror but said nothing as he drove onto the ring road.

Zhou Qingfeng leaned back in his seat, allowing Kelly to kiss and bite him like a frenzied little beast.

The woman moved chaotically, with an almost venting emotion, wanting to unload all the worry and anxiety of the past days.

Zhou Qingfeng's shirt was pulled askew, his collar wide open, and his hair was messed up by Kelly.

Kelly's nails scratched his neck, leaving a faint red mark, but she quickly covered that pain with her warm lips.

Her breathing was rapid and hot, as if she wanted to set Zhou Qingfeng on fire.

After ten minutes of struggling, Kelly finally tired out. She collapsed softly onto Zhou Qingfeng's shoulder, slightly panting.

Her cheeks were flushed, and her forehead was covered in fine sweat, making her look both disheveled and lovely.

"You bastard..." she cursed softly, with three parts anger and seven parts dependence, "always acting so recklessly, making me worry to death...
