Invasion of the United States

Chapter 4: Single-Handed_2

Old Juan stood up, walked to the iron bars, and peered through the gaps outside. He saw the military police outside braced for battle.

"Stay alert…" Old Juan warned those around him.

Not long after, a sudden roar of an engine came from outside the back wall of the detention cell. Immediately following, a blinding beam of light shot in from the narrow window, illuminating every corner of the cell.

Everyone inside instantly became wary and scrambled to avoid the position near the back wall, moving to one side of the iron bars, all aware that the light beam signaled some kind of danger.

Only the lawyer remained standing in place, murmuring in astonishment, "What's going on? Is someone breaking into the prison? This is illegal..."

Old Juan grabbed the lawyer by the collar and dragged him aside, teasing, "The law doesn't protect us, why should we obey it?"

The police station was already cramped, with the street just outside the back wall of the detention cell.

Monica, holding a walkie-talkie, felt a surge of panic due to the sudden power outage. The moment she heard the engine sounds coming from the direction of the detention cell, she instantly understood the seriousness of the situation.

"That bastard Victor is behind us…" Before she could finish her sentence, the bright light outside the detention cell became even more blinding, and the engine noise grew louder, as if a fearsome beast was approaching.

Several detainees clung to the iron bars, doing their best to stay away from the back wall, their faces filled with tension and excitement.

Monica, along with two Department of Homeland Security agents, rushed to the front of the detention cell, raising their guns and shouting, "Don't move! No one tries to escape!"

Old Juan and others immediately crouched down with their heads covered, moving in unison. However, there was no trace of panic on their faces; instead, an eerie calmness prevailed.

The next second, an ear-splitting explosion shattered the brief silence.

The sheriff's office next to the detention cell seemed to be torn apart by a rabid beast, with a truck's front crashing through the thin walls, ferociously bursting in.

Glass, bricks, and wood splinters flew everywhere, like an unexpected storm.

The floor groaned under the crushing weight of the truck's wheels, splitting deeply in several places.

The desk was shattered to pieces, with files, computers, and phones swirling in the air like toys thrown by an invisible hand.

The chandelier on the ceiling swayed precariously before finally crashing down with a "crack," and pictures and decorative paintings on the walls fell, their fragments raining down like drops.

A strong smell of diesel and metallic air swept in, mixed with irritating dust, making it almost impossible to breathe. Chapter provided via M|V|L@EMPYR.

The sheriff stood frozen in place, watching helplessly as his meticulously arranged office turned to ruins in an instant. His lips trembled slightly, trying to say something but unable to make a sound.

Monica was also knocked back a few steps by the sudden impact, nearly dropping her walkie-talkie. The agent next to her grabbed her, pulling her back in retreat.

The truck roared into reverse, its front slowly pulling out, and its tires crunched on the gravel and broken glass on the ground, creating a harsh screeching noise.

Without the support of the walls, the sheriff's office could no longer bear the weight and collapsed with a rumble.

Bricks, cement boards, and wooden beams fell, raising an even larger cloud of dust, like a mini sandstorm that engulfed the entire space.

Old Juan squinted his eyes, covering his mouth and nose with his hand, and shouted, "Clear out! Stay away from the office! Watch out for the debris!"

People in the detention cell coughed incessantly from the dust, tears streaming down their faces, but they couldn't help laughing, as if the sudden chaos were an absurd comedy.

They quickly moved away from the impact zone, crowding near the iron bars, their eyes fixed on the hole in the wall, awaiting the next step.

Soon, the engine of the truck roared again, and the front smashed in fiercely. This time, the impact was lighter, creating a two-meter-wide hole in the wall of the detention cell.

Broken bricks and chunks of cement flew everywhere, with the wall as fragile as paper, revealing the dark night sky and faint starlight outside.

When the truck backed out again, Old Juan let out a low growl, "Quick, follow up!"

The people in the detention cell didn't hesitate for a moment, quickly filing out through the hole, their footsteps hurried yet orderly.

With a "bang," the truck's door opened, and Zhou Qingfeng jumped down from the driver's seat, holding a P320 handgun in his hand, his gaze stern.

He waved his hand, his voice steady and powerful, "You go first, head south. I've already cleared that area."

Old Juan nodded, without the slightest delay, leading his grandsons to quickly climb onto the truck.

Only then did they notice that the truck before them was a military vehicle. The heavy armor and camouflage paint indicated that it had been hijacked from some checkpoint.

"Boss, we're off," Old Juan shouted to Zhou Qingfeng, his voice tinged with a trace of worry and respect.

Zhou Qingfeng nodded, slightly raising the P320 in his hand, gesturing behind him to confirm that he wouldn't be leaving at that moment.

Old Juan said no more, giving Zhou Qingfeng a deep look before closing the door.

The truck's engine roared again, its tires rolling over the gravel as it sped towards the southern street, quickly vanishing into the night.

Inside the police station, the unknown sheriff hurriedly ran to the equipment room, opened a vault door, and grabbed a bulletproof vest and an APC-9 police submachine gun.

Fumblingly, he put on the bulletproof vest, not forgetting to insert a ceramic bulletproof plate into his chest pocket. Then he loaded the submachine gun, chambered a round, and released the safety...
