Chapter 27: Museum_3
"Victor, left passage!" A hoarse command from Army Lt. Colonel Mark Roberts came through the earpiece, "Blow up the west side curtain wall, and we can connect to the road outside the museum!"
Zhou Qingfeng controlled the steering wheel with his left hand and reached out to grab a makeshift explosive pack from the cart beside him with his right.
This ordinary cart was his carefully prepared arsenal—beneath the outer canvas hid "sugar bombs" powerful enough to flatten half a block.
"Thank God we have a 'saboteur' in our team, otherwise, we'd still be stuck in the tunnel playing rat!"
The pilot, Orno, was busy servicing a World War II-era DC-3 airliner and was rejoicing over the intercom.
Most people in the escape team had some mechanical experience and were busy refueling the old aircraft, adding lubricant, and checking the internal battery and control systems.
The DC-3 was chosen because of its moderate size, durability, purely mechanical structure, and lack of easily failing electronic components, capable of taking the entire escape team at once.
The only downside was that Zhou Qingfeng needed to blow a hole five meters tall and thirty meters wide, or the DC-3 couldn't leave the museum's exhibition hall.
This version was sourced from M|V|L^EMPYR.
Boom!
The explosion's shock wave shattered several spotlights on the exhibition hall's ceiling, and glass fell like raindrops.
Zhou Qingfeng floored the accelerator, and the electric cart burst through the lingering smoke and dust. One explosion wasn't enough; he needed to do it several more times.
Everyone in the team realized at that moment how fortunate it was to have Zhou Qingfeng on their team—Mr. Brown, although knowledgeable about the underground transportation network, didn't have much destructive power and was quite a burden.
Zhou Qingfeng, however, was a highly capable 'saboteur,' and his cart, although cumbersome-looking, was like a treasure bag containing everything.
Half of the over one-hundred-kilogram load was 'sugar explosives,' and without these, just breaking through the sealed maintenance passages would have wasted a lot of precious time.
Besides explosives, the cart also carried enough food and water, especially sweet bread made with ice cream as cream, which was both filling and energy-supplying when eaten.
Everyone in the team relied on the bread to maintain their strength and morale.
Zhou Qingfeng's first explosion left web-like cracks on the glass curtain wall on the south side of the museum, while the second and third explosions expanded precisely along their stress lines.
When the last three packs of explosives detonated simultaneously, the entire curtain wall collapsed with a thunderous crash into a perfect rectangular exit, as if pushed over by an invisible giant hand.
However, there was a small problem with the DC-3 plane. To preserve this World War II hero transport, the museum had removed its starting battery to prevent unnecessary damage from battery leaks.
Without the assistance of a battery, starting two 1200-horsepower R-1830-90C radial engines wasn't easy.
"Victor, I need a starting battery, about forty-eight volts. Check the underground parking lot, I'm sure there's one." The pilot shouted to Zhou Qingfeng.
Zhou Qingfeng drove back with the electric cart and pointed at his vehicle, "Will this do?"
Orno's eyes lit up, "Of course. The fuel and lubricant have been filled, give me ten minutes, and I'll get it ready."

Just then, Monica, leading a squad of National Guard soldiers, followed the traces left by the escape team to the museum's World War II exhibition hall.
As she appeared along the observation corridor, she happened to see a group of people bustling around an old plane. Under the plane was parked an electric cart, and beside it was the prey she had been tracking for so long.
"Victor, finally found you!"
