Chapter 21 Blocking the Road_3
Two "Abrams" tanks blocked the middle of the road, their cold turrets aimed at the vehicles attempting to flee, warning anyone not to act rashly.
The traffic between Washington D.C. and Maryland was completely halted. Those wishing to enter couldn't, and those wishing to leave couldn't either.
The blockade extended beyond the roads to the fields and forests on both sides, with soldiers wielding rifles, vigilantly patrolling every corner to ensure no one could slip in or out.
In the sky, the roar of helicopters approached from a distance, their rotors slicing through the air and producing a nerve-wracking noise.
Further away, long-endurance reconnaissance aircraft circled at high altitude, their cold lenses fixed on every move on the ground.
Even a fool would realize by now that this sudden blockade was no coincidence, but a precursor to a larger storm. Something unexpected must have happened in Washington D.C.
Zhou Qingfeng gripped the steering wheel tightly, thinking it over before reluctantly getting out of the car and walking towards the guards blocking the road ahead.
However, before he could get close, the guards surprisingly pulled out barbed wire and quickly set up a more rigorous blockade.
An officer, holding a megaphone, shouted to the vehicles and crowd on both sides of the road, "We are deployed here by orders, don't ask why, as I don't know either.
Until higher-ups give orders, everyone is on their own to solve their problems, we do not provide any assistance or advice."
Faced with barbed wire and heavily armed guards, the crowd blocked on the road became extremely restless, yet helpless.
Old Hammer also got out of his car but after observing for a while, he whispered to Zhou Qingfeng, "Don't waste your time here, if this road is impassable, check other directions."
Zhou Qingfeng immediately turned around, got back in the car, started the engine, and informed Chen Rui of his situation, while also making a point to tally the fuel and supplies.
As he passed by a light truck parked on the roadside, he tapped on the driver's window and asked, "What are you transporting?"
The driver, puzzled, replied, "Delivering clothes to Macy's. What's up?"
"Nothing," Zhou Qingfeng walked away. But upon seeing another truck, he again approached the driver to inquire, "What are you transporting?"
After asking several times, one driver answered, "Delivering ingredients to the high-end restaurants at 'Stream' shopping center, mostly flour and such."
"Can you sell me some ingredients?" Zhou Qingfeng pulled out a wad of US Dollar cash, "I need some flour, cooking oil, sugar, and the like."
Seeing the cash, the driver shook his head and said, "I can't, I must deliver these goods. What do you need flour for?"
Zhou Qingfeng increased the amount of cash to five thousand dollars, "I don't know what will happen next, just instinctively want to buy your goods. This chapter was first seen on MV^LEM^PYR.
How much do I need to add for you to sell? Or should I continue down this road to find other trucks carrying food?
Washington D.C. consumes a large amount of food every day, I believe there are other food transport trucks on this road."
The driver glanced at the cash in Zhou Qingfeng's hand, then at the blocked road, hesitated for a moment before nodding:
"This is the capital of the United States, it can't be blocked for long. But... if you must buy, you can take some goods from me."
-----------------
Two or three days earlier, when Xiao Jinlang met Marco, he asked about his recent whereabouts...
"You've been to Capitol Hill? And wandered around for half a day?"
"Hey... You wouldn't believe it, the United States is really different. Capitol Hill is actually a tourist spot. I ran all over the place after going in.
Not only that, I also went to 'White House' to check-in and wandered there for half a day as well."
"What... You also went to the 'White House'?"
"Yeah, the 'White House' is also a tourist spot with open visiting days, you can just go in and look around.
The guards inside were pretty friendly, not only taking photos with me but also telling me that I was less than a hundred meters from the President of the United States. Fun, right?"
