Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Money Talks
Since Cheng Yi's car was simply too ostentatious, Xinan had not parked it next to the film crew when she had driven over that morning.
"Lin Wei, wait here for me, I'll go and bring the car over."
"Okay."
Lin Wei stood at the intersection waiting for Xinan to return. She wore a loose white T-shirt and canvas shoes, and although she wasn't as stunning as Xinan, her casual attire was clean and refreshing, drawing several glances from passersby.
Lin Wei felt a bit uneasy and lowered her head, uncomfortable with the attention.
"Beep beep beep."
Xinan slowly drove up in a black Maybach and stopped by the roadside. She rolled down the window and waved at Lin Wei, "Come on, get in."
Seeing the car parked before her eyes, Lin Wei felt a bit surprised; this car... seemed like... the one Cheng Yi had...
Although she had only ridden in Cheng Yi's car once, the memory was very clear to her.
But given Jing City's size, naturally, there were many people with the same car.
She just didn't expect that Xinan, so young, could drive such a nice car...
However, when she saw the license plate number, she was stunned; five eights. If the car being the same was a coincidence, then the license plate being the same...
Lin Wei's face instantly turned pale.
What was the relationship between Xinan and Cheng Yi...
Seeing Lin Wei staring absentmindedly at the car, Xinan called out again, "Lin Wei?"
Lin Wei then came back to her senses, nonchalantly shifting her gaze away from the car and calmly settling into the vehicle.
Throughout the ride, Lin Wei was distracted, so much so that even as they had already reached the entrance of the Film Academy, she had not registered it.
It was only after Xinan called out to her that she slowly came to her senses.
Xinan didn't notice anything amiss with Lin Wei, assuming she was just preoccupied with her thoughts, and after bidding her farewell, she drove away.
Upon returning to Luming Academy, Xinan parked the car in the garage and decided she still had to find an opportunity to bring back her own car, because driving Cheng Yi's was truly too conspicuous.
Seeing Cheng Yi sitting on the sofa, Xinan changed her shoes and walked over, handing him the car keys, "Here, I'm giving this back to you. I'll bring my car back tomorrow."
Cheng Yi only glanced at the key, didn't take it, and then looked at Xinan, "No need, I'm giving the car to you."
Xinan frowned slightly, "How could that be possible? Your car is so valuable."
"Do you not like it?" he asked.
Xinan shook her head, how could she not like it? It was a Maybach, after all!
"It's not that, it's just... if you give it to me, it wouldn't be convenient for me to drive it." After all, she was a public figure; driving such an expensive car would certainly make headlines.
Then she'd surely be targeted for criticism on social media, and her online reputation had been good so far.
Cheng Yi, as if he hadn't heard, simply said indifferently, "Then just keep it for show!"
Keeping a Maybach just for show was beyond even Xinan's wildest dreams; indeed, wealth came with caprice!
Xinan wanted to say something else but was interrupted by Cheng Yi, "Hurry up and cook, I'm hungry."
With no choice left, Xinan put the key back in her pocket.
The kitchen was almost out of supplies, indicating a need to buy groceries before coming back the next day.
Due to the lack of options, Xinan just made a simple stir-fry of green peppers and pork, along with a mushroom soup.
After serving the food, Cheng Yi looked at the meal before him and frowned slightly, "Is this it?"
Xinan responded, "I forgot to buy groceries when I came back today, so you'll have to make do for now."
Cheng Yi looked at the tableware and then at Xinan; despite feeling very dissatisfied, he still picked up his chopsticks and began to eat.
Perhaps because the food didn't suit Cheng Yi's taste, he ate unusually fast that day. Xinan had only eaten half of her portion when he had already put down his utensils.
Xinan even doubted that he had eaten his fill.
"Remember to buy groceries tomorrow." In the end, Cheng Yi left her with that remark, hands in his pockets, leisurely walking away.
Dressed in casual wear, he appeared relaxed and comfortable.
"Oh," Xinan muttered, pursing her lips.
When Xinan went back upstairs to the bedroom, she didn't see Cheng Yi anywhere; he must be in the study.
Cheng Yi usually worked and had video conferences in the study. Afraid of disturbing him, Xinan had never been to the study yet.
Cheng Yi would often stay in the study until late, so after taking a bath, Xinan went to bed first.
As she was about to fall asleep, half in a daze, Xinan suddenly felt a familiar presence approach her.
By the time she opened her eyes, Cheng Yi had already enveloped her beneath him.
"Cheng Yi, what are you doing?" she tried to push him away, but the more she pushed, the closer he came.
Cheng Yi looked at her and smiled slyly, "Of course, I'm about to do something that's good for your health..."
As he spoke, his hand slipped into Xinan's nightgown, but when he touched her trousers, his hand paused.
He furrowed his brow, "Are you on your period?"
Xinan suddenly understood and quietly said, "Mhm, sorry."
Cheng Yi felt the frustration within him growing fiercer as the heat beneath him intensified.
He sat up from the bed and walked to the bathroom, where shortly after, the sound of the shower began.
Xinan breathed a sigh of relief; thank goodness for her period, otherwise, with the daily demands, her body really couldn't take it.
It had to be said, Cheng Yi's vitality was indeed formidable...
-
After nearly half a year, under Cheng Yi's management, Tianyi Group gradually got on the right track.
Now, Cheng Yi began to slowly let go while also taking a breather for himself.
Approaching the end of the workday, Cheng Yi called another meeting. As it adjourned, he heard Secretary Li chatting with a female colleague.
"Could you also give me a pack of the brown sugar water you made today? I got my period too."
Secretary Li organized the documents and smiled, saying, "No problem, I'll give you one after work."
"Thanks a lot."
"It's nothing."
After returning to the office, Cheng Yi, somewhat tired, sat down on the sofa.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and then it opened as Secretary Li came in, holding a document, "Mr. Cheng, here is a document that needs your signature."
Cheng Yi took the document, glanced over it casually, and upon confirming it was correct, signed his name with the pen.
As Secretary Li turned with the document in her arms, Cheng Yi suddenly spoke, "Wait a moment."
Secretary Li turned her head in surprise, "Mr. Cheng, is there something else?"
Cheng Yi paused for a moment before saying, "Could you make me a cup of that brown sugar water too?"
Secretary Li's eyes widened. She hadn't misheard, had she? Why would the boss, a man, want to drink brown sugar water?
But then Secretary Li realized he probably wasn't planning to drink it himself but rather to give it to a certain woman.
But their boss was a golden bachelor, never having been rumored to be involved with any woman for years. Who could be so fortunate?
Despite her surprise, Secretary Li still maintained her composure and quietly said, "Alright."
"Right, use this cup." Cheng Yi handed his personal thermos to Secretary Li from his desk.
Seeing the thermos, Secretary Li almost dropped her jaw—it was the boss's private cup, and he was willing to let someone else use it...
He was known to be quite a clean freak!
Secretary Li shakily took the thermos and walked out of the office.
When Cheng Yi left the company, it was the peak of rush hour. The traffic jammed for about ten minutes, and by the time he arrived at Xinan's film set, it was past seven o'clock.
Upon seeing Cheng Yi, the director immediately came over fawningly, "Mr. Yi, you've arrived?"
Cheng Yi nodded, "Hmm."
"You're here to see Miss Xi, right? She just finished filming and is resting over there." The director pointed not far off, where Xinan stood under a willow tree, reading the script.
"Hmm, go on with your work," Cheng Yi responded.
"Okay, then I won't disturb you, Mr. Yi."
"Hmm."
Cheng Yi watched Xinan under the willow tree for a while, and maybe due to the outfit from the set, Xinan seemed different from usual today.
The white dress clung to her body, highlighting her delicate figure and curves.
Such attire made her appear both pure and lively.
It was almost as if he saw the Xinan of the past, and Cheng Yi suddenly missed the feeling, staring at her somewhat lost in thought.
Cheng Yi slowly approached, and so engrossed was Xinan in her script that she didn't notice someone standing nearby.
When she turned around and saw Cheng Yi's handsome face, she was stunned for a good while before regaining her senses, "You... why have you come..."
"I was passing by and stopped to have a look." His gaze fixed on Xinan.
"Oh."
"Right, take this." Cheng Yi handed the thermos to Xinan.
"What is it?" Xinan looked up at Cheng Yi, eyes full of curiosity.
"Just take a sip, and you'll know." He said.
Hesitant at first, Xinan opened the thermos anyway. She took a sip—it was brown sugar water. How did Cheng Yi have this?
Could he have brought this brown sugar water especially for her...
Xinan's heart fluttered with joy and excitement. She glanced at Cheng Yi, then asked softly, "Why would you bring me this?"
Cheng Yi cleared his throat, saying, "The secretary made it by mistake. Since you've got your period, I thought I'd bring it over."
"Oh." Xinan's eyes fell, feeling a sense of disappointment. She should've known, how could Cheng Yi have made brown sugar water for her, or come all this way just to deliver it.
It was all just a matter of convenience.
Seeing that Xinan had only taken one sip, Cheng Yi asked, "What, doesn't it taste good?"
"No." Xinan shook her head.
"Then drink more."
"Oh."
Regarding Cheng Yi staring at her, Xinan had no choice but to drink a few more sips in front of him, only stopping when she saw his satisfied smile.
"When do you finish work?" Cheng Yi suddenly asked.
"At ten." Xinan closed the thermos.
Cheng Yi nodded, "Alright, then I'll wait for you."
"Ah?"
"What's the matter, is there a problem?" His gaze took on a dangerous edge.
"No... no problem..."
