Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Haven't Tried It on the Sofa Yet
Talking about this, Xinan also remembered. At that time, Cheng Yi was really angry, but he had no way to deal with the two of them.
You have to understand, Cheng Yi's obsession with cleanliness was very severe. Letting them sleep in his room was really a sign of his indulgence toward them.
Looking back at that time now, it feels like it was all just a dream.
Xinan stared at the crystal lamp on the ceiling for a while before turning her head, "Rourou, you said before that Cheng Yi had a crush on me. How did you find out?"
"Didn't you notice that Brother Yi treats you differently than he treats us?" Jiang Yurou countered.
Xinan was stunned; "What's different?"
Jiang Yurou said, "Take what just happened for example. Brother Yi never lets anyone into his room, but because you were there, he was willing to let us sleep in his room and even tolerated us eating snacks on his bed."
You have to understand, she had been to Cheng Yi's house so many times before but had never set foot in his room.
"Also, during high school, once on your birthday, a bunch of us planned to go to KTV to sing. You got completely drunk and clung to Brother Yi, insisting he sing. His face turned green, and Brother Tan Bo and I were terrified, afraid he would throw you out any second."
At this point, Jiang Yurou laughed, "But what we didn't expect was that Brother Yi actually sang. That was the first time I ever heard him sing in all my years."
Xinan opened her mouth wide, looking at Jiang Yurou, "Did that really happen?"
"Of course!" Jiang Yurou confirmed decisively: "You haven't forgotten, have you?"
Xinan indeed had no recollection of such an event. She had been blackout drunk at the time and remembered nothing upon waking up. No wonder Cheng Yi had looked at her so displeased the next day.
Xinan awkwardly scratched her head, "I was drunk at the time, and after waking up, I had no memory of what I'd done."
"You don't even have a memory of the part where Brother Yi sang?"
Seeing that Xinan wasn't speaking, Jiang Yurou expressed her regret: "That's really a pity, Brother Yi's singing is truly beautiful."
Xinan was also very annoyed. Such an important moment, and she had been too drunk to remember. Alcohol really is a curse!
"What song did he sing at the time?" she asked.
"Eason Chan's 'When the Grapes Are Ripe'," Jiang Yurou sighed, "Who knows if I'll ever have the chance to hear Brother Yi sing again in this lifetime."
That might be a bit difficult, Xinan thought.
As the two of them chatted, Jiang Yurou gradually fell sleepy and soon began to breathe evenly, fast asleep.
Xinan, however, couldn't fall asleep for a long time. She took out her phone, opened QQ Music, turned the volume down to the lowest, then placed the earpiece to her ear and played that song.
It was a Cantonese song, with very emotional lyrics but a charming tone.
Xinan had never heard Cheng Yi speak Cantonese and couldn't imagine what he would sound like singing in Cantonese.
Unknowingly, Xinan gradually fell asleep listening to that song.
—
A week later, Xinan received an audition notice for "It's You." It was called an audition, but it was really just a formality.
She had thought that after finishing "Mist," she could take a long break, but to her surprise, just a week into her rest, she had to join a new production.
This was the first time she had been this busy since entering the entertainment industry.
The shooting location was in Jing City, so Xinan could go home to rest after filming each day, which was quite convenient.
She finished work early that night and on the way home, Xinan passed a cake shop. Craving strawberry cake after such a long time, she bought one and it was only just past seven when she got home.
Humming a little tune, Xinan walked home. But when she opened the door, she was stunned because Cheng Yi was sitting on the sofa.
Lately, Cheng Yi had always been leaving early and returning late. By the time he came back, Xinan had long gone to bed, and the two rarely crossed paths. Why did he come back so early today?
After changing her shoes, Xinan walked in and noticed he was looking at his laptop.
Xinan placed the cake on the table and hesitated for a moment before asking, "I bought cake, do you want some?"
Xinan knew that Cheng Yi was not fond of sweets, so she only asked out of courtesy, not really expecting him to eat any.
But to her surprise, Cheng Yi's gaze slowly fell upon the cake on the table before he uttered a "Hmm."
The cake wasn't very big; it might be not enough for two people.
Xinan felt a bit annoyed. If she had known, she wouldn't have asked Cheng Yi—now she wouldn't have enough for herself, and this was her favorite strawberry cake!
Although she thought this, Xinan still picked up a fork, cut the largest piece, put it on a plate, and handed it to Cheng Yi.
Xinan looked at the meager amount of cake remaining in her hands, feeling a bit tearful on the inside.
But she still ate with satisfaction.
After she finished, Xinan glanced at Cheng Yi. He was concentrating on the laptop on his lap, and the cake was set aside, untouched.
Xinan silently looked away. She couldn't very well ask him to give the cake back to her, could she? Out of sight, out of mind.
Xinan wiped the table clean with a couple of paper towels and then threw away the trash.
Originally, she had bought the cake to eat for dinner. Now that she had given half to Cheng Yi, she wasn't full at all. So Xinan decided to cook a bowl of noodles for herself in the kitchen.
But as she was about to stand up, Cheng Yi's magnetic and pleasant voice rose from the couch, "This cake is too sweet for me; you have it."
He was holding a small piece of cake, clearly having tasted only a bite.
"Huh?" Stunned by the cake pushed toward her, Xinan was a bit dazed.
"If you can't eat it, just pretend I didn't say anything..." Cheng Yi's lips parted slightly.
"I can... I can eat it," Xinan hastily said.
Watching Xinan devour her share of the cake without any restraint, a hint of amusement flickered in Cheng Yi's eyes. He usually hated sweets the most, but he was worried she might have trouble digesting too much at night, so he had accepted a piece of the cake.
After one bite, he had no desire to eat more; it was too rich. Yet, seeing how happily she ate, he felt that not letting her have more would be slightly unfair to her.
Cheng Yi sat opposite Xinan, his gaze fixed on her small face.
Now Xinan was truly full; in fact, toward the end, she even felt a bit sick of it.
"Are you full?" Cheng Yi closed his laptop and asked leisurely.
Xinan nodded, her face beaming with satisfaction, "I'm full."
"Then it's my turn..."
"Huh?" Xinan was confused.
Before she could react, her wrist was seized by Cheng Yi, and with a flip, she found herself pinned on the couch.
"What... what are you doing?" Xinan's hands pressed against Cheng Yi's chest.
Cheng Yi's eyes narrowed slightly as he countered, "What do you think?"
"We haven't tried it on the couch yet." He leaned close to her ear and breathed out softly.
Having said that, his lips found hers, moving from her mouth down to her collarbone, tracing a path downward.
