Chapter 28: Episode 28: Wrath of the Ten Directions

The forest seemed to hold its breath, sensing the cataclysmic shift within Kevin. The vibrant greens and shimmering golds dimmed, mirroring the descent of his soul into a vortex of rage and despair. Lily's lifeless body lay cradled in his arms, a stark and brutal reminder of his failure. The dollmaker, momentarily stunned by the swift turn of events, began to cackle, a hollow, grating sound that ignited Kevin's fury. "A fitting end, wouldn't you agree? The mighty Kevin Williams, brought to his knees!" The words were like gasoline on a fire. Kevin rose slowly, gently laying Lily's body on a bed of soft moss. He turned towards the dollmaker, his eyes burning with an intensity that seemed to scorch the very air. The dollmaker recoiled, sensing the raw power that was about to be unleashed. "You…you can't! The forest…it protects me!" Kevin said nothing. He focused inward, drawing upon the ancient techniques he had mastered, the forbidden knowledge he had unearthed in forgotten tombs. He channeled his grief, his rage, his despair, transforming them into a weapon of unimaginable power. He activated his Ten Directions Supreme technique, but this time, it was different. This time, it was not a controlled manipulation of gravity, but a raw, untamed force, a manifestation of his inner turmoil. The very fabric of reality around the dollmaker began to warp and distort. The ground buckled, the trees twisted, the air crackled with energy. The dollmaker screamed, his body contorted into unnatural shapes, his porcelain mask shattering completely, revealing the decaying flesh beneath. He tried to teleport away, to escape the onslaught, but it was no use. Kevin's power was absolute, his control over the ten directions was complete. He was trapped. Kevin unleashed the full force of his wrath. He manipulated gravity to crush the dollmaker, to tear him apart at the atomic level. He froze the space around him, trapping him in a prison of ice and time. He summoned winds that howled with the voices of the dead, tearing at his flesh, stripping him of his power. The dollmaker's shadowy allies fared no better. They were swept away by the chaotic forces, their bodies dissolving into nothingness. The forest watched in silence, its energy recoiling from the sheer intensity of Kevin's power. When it was over, nothing remained of the dollmaker or his allies. Only a faint trace of decay, a lingering stench of evil, marked their passing. Kevin stood amidst the destruction, his body trembling, his mind reeling. He had avenged Lily, but the victory felt hollow, empty. Her loss was a wound that would never heal. He knelt beside her body, his heart aching with grief. He closed his eyes, attempting to contact her spirit, to say goodbye. But he couldn't reach her. Her spirit was gone, vanished into the void. He realized that the dagger had not just killed her body, it had severed her connection to this world, preventing her from moving on. He had to find a way to restore her spirit, to give her peace. But how? He remembered the tree, the heart of the forest. It had the power to restore life, to mend broken spirits. He turned towards the tree, his eyes filled with hope. He approached it cautiously, reaching out to touch its trunk. But as his fingers brushed against the bark, he felt a jolt of energy, a surge of pain. The tree recoiled from him, its glowing leaves dimming, its energy withdrawing. He tried again, but the result was the same. The tree was rejecting him. He realized that his actions, his uncontrolled rage, had corrupted him. He was no longer a part of the forest, he was a threat to it. He had sacrificed his connection to this sacred place in his quest for revenge. He stumbled back, his heart filled with despair. He had lost everything. Lily was gone, his connection to the forest was severed, and his soul was tainted by his own wrath. He looked at Lily's body, lying lifeless on the moss. He couldn't leave her here. He had to find a way to give her a proper burial, to honor her memory. He gathered her in his arms and began to walk, leaving the corrupted clearing behind. He didn't know where he was going, or what he would do. He only knew that he had to find a way to carry on, to honor Lily's sacrifice, to protect their children. As he walked, he noticed a faint light in the distance, emanating from a small cottage nestled deep within the woods. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of whether to approach. But he had no other choice. He needed help, he needed guidance. He walked towards the cottage, his heart filled with apprehension. He reached the door and knocked softly. After a moment, the door opened, revealing an old woman, her face wrinkled and wise, her eyes filled with compassion. "Come in, Kevin Williams," she said, her voice gentle and kind. "I have been expecting you." Kevin stared at her, his mind reeling. Who was she? And how did she know his name? "Who are you?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper. The old woman smiled. "I am a guardian of this forest," she said. "And I know what you have lost. Come inside. Let us see what can be done." Kevin hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside the cottage, carrying Lily's body in his arms. The old woman led him to a small room, where a fire was burning brightly in the hearth. She gestured for him to lay Lily on a bed of soft furs. Kevin did as he was told, his heart filled with a flicker of hope. "She can still be saved," the old woman said. But there is a price.
