Chapter 476 - A Resonance I Did Not See Coming
An hour before midnight, I teleported right outside a dimly lit area where most of the military tents were placed. I checked the surroundings with my senses, trying to make sure that only Caius was inside his tent. I do not want to suddenly appear out of the blue with a tent full of military officers. Nobody knew that I have been inside his tent before or that we talk outside of work besides his personal aides, I guess.
After confirming that there was only one person inside the tent, I teleported again and reappeared inside Caius' tent. I saw him laying on his bed but surprisingly, he was not asleep. He was staring blankly towards the ceiling. He was pale and he seemed to have become thinner in just two days since I last saw him. I also noticed that everything inside his tent looked like a tornado came in. The place stinks of sweat, spoiled food and dirty socks too.
I walked quietly and approached the bed where he was at. He looked soulless and gaunt. I called on to his name, "Caius..." but he did not react. It was as if he did not hear anything. I tried calling him a few more times and on the 6th call, he flinched as if the sound surprised him. He slowly looked sideways to my direction and just stared at me for a few seconds then looked back to staring at the ceiling once more. He then murmured, "Why are you here? Isn't it too late to show you care?"
My brain functions froze. What is going on? What the fuck is this dramatic line about?
Just like what I did a few days ago, I used magic to clean the dirty clothes, spoiled food and every nook and cranny of his place up. I placed the things on their original places and even returned the broken stuff to how they looked like before this tornado of a guy went through with throwing them all around the place.
After cleaning up, I walked towards the guy still laying on his bed. When he heard me approaching again, he pulled the blankets over his head, refusing to face me. I grabbed one corner of his blanket and yanked it away revealing his whole body. He was still wearing the clothes I placed him in a few days back but there were visible claw marks and bruises on the parts of his upper body that were exposed.
I grabbed his wrist and he flinched. He automatically tried to get his arm away from my grasp. He weakly said, "No... No... Go away. Don't... Don't touch me." As I touched him, I realized that he was burning with a high fever like the one that can bring about seizures. His breathing was very labored and his eyes were hazy with lust as he looked at me.
No way. The last person I saw like this was Keeran. I was very careful afterwards. How in the world...
I carried him off the bed to start some form of first aid. As his body touched mine, he began squirming and whimpering. His face started nuzzling my neck and sniffing my scent. I carried him in a hurry then teleported him inside the bathroom of my wagon and placed him in the tub. I made him drink some health potions to address his weakness from not eating for a couple of days and then started spraying him with cold water to cool him down.
As the cold water hit him he screamed and shivered as he started to try and climb out the tub. I had to hold him down and place the necklace around his neck. It is the same one I have given Keeran before to stop him from suffering further. As the necklace touched his chest, he stopped moving, relief etched on his face. The necklace then turned invisible and intangible to avoid anybody stealing it.
This necklace is a much improved version of the one I originally gave to Keeran. It has more mana and essence inside so it would last for at least half a year compared to the other one that only lasts for a month. This was the prototype and now I had to give it to someone else than its intended owner. I will have to create another one just in case a need arises.
After addressing the immediate symptoms like the weakness and the fever, I carried and teleported him back to his tent. As if I never brought him out of his tent, I teleported again to the back of his tent and pretended as if I just arrived. I walked towards its entrance calling on to his aides in the process. They were surprised that somebody even cared to visit the general and see how he was doing.
Using my authority as the envoy, I was able to enter his tent with not much complaints from his personal aides though it contradicts their masters original wishes. They accompanied me inside and was surprised to see that everything inside was spick and span. They may have seen a glimpse of how it looked like before they were kicked out knowing this guy's temperament.
They looked at me with curious eyes and I smiled at them while putting my index finger on my lips. Their eyes widened and nodded in understanding that nobody should know that I have been here except the time I officially appeared in front of his tent.
I looked at the three of them and gave instructions, "This guy has not eaten any of the food you gave him for three days. I gave him a health potion to avoid his body from crashing any further. As you've seen I cleaned up everything including him. Now what I want you to do is bring him to the infirmary and tell them that he is dehydrated and has a high fever. I can't be seen carrying him around since he's still unmarried."
The three aides nodded their heads enthusiastically, a knowing smile showing on their faces. I chuckled at their reaction and had to burst their bubble by saying, "I am not in any type of relationship with your master. I have a lot of things I need to do and getting another husband is not one of them."
