Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 803: Old enemies

The weight of this responsibility weighed heavily on Rain's mind. He realized that while he couldn't take them with him, he had an obligation to do something significant for them. His grandparents held a crucial position of leadership, serving as beacons of hope and guidance for the people sheltering underground.

"They look pretty down since they haven't had the chance to feel the sun in their faces for many years… I have to change this for them," Rain thought.

For that to happen, Rain had to kill the ice dragons… so he felt satisfied in making them see even the cloudy sky. That would be the first step for a while… in any case, Rain's first idea was to copy the demi humans and create a disguise barrier… he had no idea how to do that, though.

"I guess reflecting the environment would work well here since everything has been taken by snow," Rain thought. "Creating mirrors is easy, but that won't be enough. The mirrors have to allow the light to enter and reflect it enough for the enemies not find this place."

Rain considered using light or invisibility magic to craft a specialized domain capable of fulfilling his objective. If he possessed a better understanding of those, he might have been able to create a domain that manipulated light to penetrate the underground refuge while simultaneously concealing it from the view of potential enemies.

However, this was a realm of magic he hadn't explored extensively, limiting his ability to employ it for such intricate purposes.

In the midst of his contemplation, a realization dawned upon Rain. He finally understood the primary weapon employed by the demi-humans—a domain that restricted the abilities of dragons. This domain not only nullified the dragons' magical capabilities but also weakened their physical prowess.

Recognizing the potency of this defensive strategy, Rain realized that one would need a lot of knowledge regarding the dragons power… mainly the power of the sins.

"I think that the dragon god wouldn't have a problem in such a domain, but he probably doesn't see the demi humans a as real problem since they lived in isolation… at least back then," Rain thought.

Rain acknowledged his limited knowledge regarding the full extent of the dragons' abilities, particularly in their evolved state. However, he was well aware of the influence of the sins on the dragons, augmenting their powers and capabilities significantly.

Rain possessed quite the understanding about the sins and their mechanisms, allowing him to consider the possibility of crafting a domain specifically designed to weaken the effects of sins magic.

His plan involved creating a domain where the influence of sins would be significantly diminished. By nullifying or weakening the sins' magic within this domain, Rain aimed to strip the evolved dragons of the augmented strength they gained through the sins' influence. This strategy intended to revert the dragons' abilities to their pre-evolved state, rendering them less formidable adversaries.

"Instead of proper barriers, the anti magic crystals were basically domains that negated the use of most types of magic, but the dragons won against the magic people because of the sins," Rain thought. "I have to make a crystal big enough to counter and have both effects."

Rain, realizing the complexity and intricacies of employing light magic for such a task, recalled a technique used by the water snipers that could assist him in creating a protective domain. Rain embarked on a week-long endeavor to craft a specialized crystal capable of generating a vast domain expansive enough to cover the entire underground base and the surface of the island.

The crystal he crafted possessed the unique ability to erect a protective domain large enough to envelop the entire area. This domain also featured a surface layer fashioned from a thin, reflective coating of water. This water-covered surface effectively mirrored the surrounding snow, providing an illusionary effect that blended seamlessly with the wintry environment above.

Moreover, this specialized domain served the crucial function of sealing off any magical leaks from within while preventing external magical influences from infiltrating or affecting the sheltered community. Rain's meticulous creation of this domain ensured the utmost protection and security for the underground base and its inhabitants while also disguising their presence from potential threats.

Since only his grandparents recalled Rain, they had a hard time convincing the others to let him test the domain… Still, they had one week for that, and soon they found the results. It wasn't much, but they could have and feel the sunlight on their faces… people around were completely astonished by that.

At the end of the day, they panicked when they saw a dragon flying further south and screamed and hid in their houses, but nothing happened… the ice dragon was completely unaware of their presence.

"I guess the domain is perfect, but you need to feed it with mana," Rain said. "You have ten thousand people here, but just one hundred people have to use their mana to keep it active. I need to get on my way now."

"As usual, you come and go while making things impossible possible… you are something else," Meiro said.

"We are sorry for making you waste one week with us like this… you should look for your family," Luana said.

"It wasn't a waste. You are family, too," Rain said. "Besides, one week away from them is nothing if compared to the time that I was away. I just hope that they won't think the same and assume that the enemies can fake my good looks by trying to look like me."

"Rain, we aren't certain of that, but if they are having trouble, most likely, they are dealing with the survivors of the magic and beast people," Meiro said. "We didn't find them since the war, but the dragons didn't move in packs either, so they weren't hunted down like before.

We didn't feel any signs of big battles, only the occasional tremors, and while dust emerged, it was sunk down by the snow."
