Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 1056: Bad news

The temperature of the burning material influences the color of a flame. Generally, the hottest flames are blue, and they become less hot as they transition to colors like yellow, orange, and red.

A blue flame is typically associated with higher temperatures. This is often seen in flames fueled by substances that burn cleanly, such as natural gas. The blue color is a result of complete combustion, where the fuel is burned efficiently, producing a higher temperature.

Still, in Rain's case, it was because a lot of mana had been used to make those flames, and the crafting skills of Maxime helped as well.

"This won't last forever, so get going," Rain said. "I will cover for you now."

"The next time, you should warn me before infusing me with that kind of energy," Elisabetha said.

Larisa didn't complain, so Elisabetha was being troublesome like usual. In any case, Jori and Terra could feel the power in their weapons, and they were itching to test them… they decided to try that in the worst way possible… When they approached the enemies and they fired a barrage of bullets, they used Impulse and attacked them as well.

As Terra and Jori unleashed their enhanced attacks, the clash with the barrage of bullets resulted in an insane display. The bullets exploded right in front of them, creating a burst of flames that momentarily enveloped them. However, the flames on their weapons not only neutralized the poison but also provided a protective barrier, preventing them from sustaining any significant injuries.

The controlled flames, coupled with the magical enhancement, proved to be an effective countermeasure against the poison.

Taking advantage of the confusion caused by their counterattack, Terra and Jori closed in on the giant robots. Terra's powerful punches generated explosions upon impact, causing sections of the mechanical giants to crumble and fall apart. Meanwhile, Jori's sword, fueled by the enhanced flames, sliced through one of the robot's arms effortlessly, severing it from the massive frame.

The giant robots, momentarily stunned by the unexpected turn of events, struggled to adapt to the close-quarters combat initiated by Terra and Jori. Those two capitalized on this opportunity, exploiting the vulnerabilities in the mechanical giants' defenses and inflicting significant damage.

The battle took on a new and intense rhythm, with explosions echoing through the air as Terra and Jori continued their relentless assault.

The first attacks made Jori and Terra gain a lot of confidence. They stepped backward and saw the giant robots staggering and couldn't help but smirk. Thanks to that, they decided to take a step further as well… both of them activated Limit Breaker and Magic Boost and then charged toward the enemies.

"It seems that they are enjoying this a bit too much," Nigel said.

Rain grunted in annoyance…the power up made those two rip apart to shreds their respective targets, but they weren't focusing their eyes on the surroundings… or maybe they were expecting Rain would cover for them as both of them were being closed it by a pair of giant robots.

"I am just one person," Rain muttered.

Rain pointed the hammer toward one of the giant robots and then fired a concentrated beam of fire toward the creature… the impact destroyed one of the legs of the monster. It caused an explosion as well, which made the robot be pushed to the side and fall to the ground.

When they saw the hammers pointed at them, the monsters slowed down and tried to put some distance between them as well. Only to be hit by countless small fireballs that Rain fired… those didn't have enough power to truly damage them, but it pushed them away… and while they lost control of their movements, Terra and Jori stepped in and bombarded them with their attacks at close range.

"I understand now… just light lightning magic can disrupt their flow of mana and make them self-destruct. The heat of fire magic slows them down, making them unable to follow their orders as fast as possible," Maxime said. "Whoever is contracting them probably isn't nearby, given that you aren't using that much mana."

"I understand… you are talking a lot more now because there are no women here, is that it?" Nigel asked. "Do you have a phobia of women or something?"

"... Don't speak nonsense," Maxime said.

"I am in the middle of a fight… those are my words," Rain said.

Although that made a lot of sense, Rain couldn't care less about that. If the giant robots had to rely that much on their ability to receive orders from mana for a long distance, Rain knew well what he should do… Rain recalled how the meteor dragons used their magic.

He had a brief idea of how they could manipulate sunlight, but in the end, he was only able to cover the area with his mana and then burn the energy. Before long, the temperature began to increase.

Rain's plan worked more than he had anticipated. The giant robots began to shake violently, almost as if they tried to follow their orders but were unable to do so. Their movements became sluggish, and their once-precise coordination faltered. Although they insisted on firing bullets at Jori and Terra, their accuracy decreased, and the shots went wide.

Amidst the chaos, Asche, Liss, and Reca continued their efforts to expand the hole in the cannon. The vibrations in the area intensified as they succeeded in exponentially increasing the opening. However, unrelated to the ongoing battle, an another disturbance caught everyone's attention.

The ground itself quaked more violently than before, and it became clear that this wasn't a mere reaction to the ongoing attacks. The tremors were more profound, hinting at a force beyond the immediate conflict. Rain and the others exchanged uncertain glances, realizing that a new and unexpected element was about to enter the already chaotic battlefield.

"What is happening?" Terra asked.

"It seems that they aren't wasting time anymore…" Rain replied. "Prepare yourselves."
