Chapter 61: {[Shadow Monarch’s Hoodie (C-)]}
It wasn't until Cassius's sixth day of searching that he entered a D-Rank Gate and encountered a Boss Monster even more troublesome than the Kobold King from the Kobold Catacombs. The boss easily blended into the ancient ruin surroundings and seemed to appear in dozens of different locations all at the same time. Extraordinarily powerful lightning electrified the air and shot out from its innumerable clones, all while further increasing the Boss Monster's speed.
It wasn't until after passing a three-hour intense struggle and finally subduing the elusive Boss Monster that Cassius threw a Common Evoball out. Yet, even with it in a half-dead state, it took five of the balls to capture it, when it would normally only take one or two. However, this only increased the feeling urging him that this monster was the one for him. Lilith vibrated in annoyance upon sensing this thought of his but calmed down after a bit more slaughtering.
While killing monsters with Lilith, Cassius learned more about the truth of the lightning/shadow element boss monster—now Evomon.
It was through these observations and physical intuition that he discovered the true nature of its "cloning ability," which was, in actuality, a trick of the mind, produced by a combination of its extremely quick speed, its original two elements, and the "Illusion" element. Only after all these aspects came together in seamless fashion could an enemy far surpassing its rank come into being.
Now, though, that enemy had become Cassius's Evomon, thus renamed "Nyxvoldar," and would likely remain as part of his strength for many moons to come.
It was on the seventh day following Cassius's first conquest of a normal Gate, immediately after his reminiscent recap was finished, that he noticed something up with the people in his immediate vicinity. They were all gathered around a large marble building in a part of Hoshito's downtown city area.
Attracted by the commotion, Cassius heard people screaming and shouting as if they had lost their minds. His first assumption was that a Sudden Gate had appeared, eliciting mass frenzy. However, after nearing the boisterous crowd and leaning over the heads, he realized exactly what was going on here…
'Celebrities… Whether in this life or my previous life—they never change,' he thought with a sigh. 'And neither do their fans…'
A few dozen meters ahead of him, a group of exceptionally good-looking men and women were standing on a weirdly shaped stage. Their appearances were certainly glamorous, with many standoffish tassels and adornments attached to their persons. The men posed coolly, while the women were a mix of personalities, with some colder and others wanton enough to blow kisses and wave around in feigned glee.
Cassius flipped up his shadowy hood and was simply going to turn around and go about his way, as he planned to meet Grace again today. Yet, before his thoughts could be put into action, he suddenly heard something interesting come from the crazed ramblings of the pop star fans.
"The B-Rank Hunter Party, MoonShiners, actually came to our small city of Hoshito!! What have we done to deserve such good fortune!?"
"Oh, God, I really love them! Especially Dominic! He's my favorite!! So dashing!"
"Dominic!? You are surely fooling yourself with that one! Lexi is clearly the best-looking among them!"
"Lexi!? Ha! What a joke! Stella is the only one for me! Just look at how she waves and blows kisses! They are intimate gestures directed toward just me!"
"Ha!? What a delusional fool! You are not only delusional, but you are also stupid enough to fall for her fake act!"
Cassius zoned out the rest of the crowd's quibbling, instead focusing on the B-Rank Hunter Party part.
'There are actually these types of Hunter Parties, and of such high ranking as well… How very unusual…'
Curious, he weaved through the sea of people and made his way toward the front of the group. Normally, with his outstanding appearance, he would stand out no matter where he went, but thanks to the item crafting system feature, he was able to create a magical shadow hood that perfected what he was previously attempting to imitate.
{[Shadow Monarch's Hoodie (C-)]}
|—[Defense: ~102]—|
[Effect 1 (Too ugly for viewership):] - [Can conceal the facial appearance of the User (Only applicable against those less than 3 Perception ranks higher than the User)]
[Effect 2:] - [200% increased effectiveness with the Shadow Element]
[Effect 3 (Night Stalker):] - [During the night, the wearer is able to blend into the darkness and remain completely undetected by all those with a Perception stat less than 4 ranks higher than yours. (As soon as you attack, this effect will be negated)]
Cassius obviously knew that the Idle Evolution System was trolling him a bit, but what more could he expect from something that quite literally gave him a trolling system feature? Perhaps it was a bit salty that he hadn't been using the feature to its fullest capacity.
'Over the past week, I've obtained roughly 55 AP through the 'trolling' of those close to me, but I guess that's not good enough for the system,' Cassius thought as he tuned into the voice coming through the speaker system on stage. 'Maybe I should try to make some enemies and troll them…?'
Unusual thoughts whirled around inside his head as the Head of the MoonShiner Hunter Party, Dominic, spoke through his microphone:
"Hello, people of Hoshito!! As some of you are aware, we are the B-Rank Hunter Party, the MoonShiners!"
His voice caused the citizens in the crowd to erupt in loud cheers.
It was Dominic's dignified voice that truly set the reality out before them. A real-life B-Rank Hunter Party had arrived in Hoshito! As for why they were here—well, who really cared!?
Dominic inwardly smirked at the zealousness of the naïve Hoshito denizens. Though, outwardly, he exhibited nothing less than the epitome of gentlemanliness, leaving the fervent girls below swooning.
A few of the guys were jealous and envious, but more than that, the presence of an actual B-Rank Party weighed far heavier on their minds.
