Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 58: Sasha's Unexpected Worry

"Maybe I should lay off the Agility stat for a while…?" However, as soon as this thought entered Cassius's frontal lobe, it left in that same instant. "Who am I kidding? I was born to go fast, and this is just a shortcut to becoming faster than everyone else."

With that, he kept the special Skill to the back of his mind.

Entertaining a different train of thought, he considered whether to take off his Newbie 1 Training Set before going to sleep. Even though he felt that taking his weights off was the logical thing to do, something was telling him that good things would come if he kept them on for longer. His first assumption was that the Perception stat was hinting at something, either directly or indirectly through the Idle Evolution System.

Following a period of contemplation:

"I guess I'll just keep them on and also have my Newbie 1 Sword close to my person as well," Cassius decided. "And I will also do another set of exercises for the day, as I feel a connection between doing that and what my gut is telling me to do on this matter as well."

He promptly fell to the floor with a quiet, controlled thud, then went through each of the exercise sequences. However, as he completed them all in record times, he felt that they had already become far too easy.

Even though he barely put any AP into the Strength stat, the gains were still coming. The Strength stat, more than the others, naturally accumulated due to how much stress was constantly being placed on Cassius's body. Endurance was also up there, but not nearly at the same level.

Nonetheless, he figured the Idle Evolution System would soon solve his… 'lack of good grinding'...? Soon enough. But before then, he would humbly accept the easy wins.

After exceeding the 100 mark, eventually touching upon the 200 mark—which was the absolute cap for the basic exercises—he returned to his bed. Surprise over the bed not instantly collapsing because of the weight was evident in his expression, but he once again surmised the sturdiness of everything in the household to be a result of an extremely skilled construction worker.

When, in actuality, it was something far more complicated and mysterious than that…

After settling into his covers, Cassius snoozed off into the inexplicable land of dreams, utterly unaware of the eerie shadows that lurked outside his bedroom window.

They lingered there for a while, simply staring with their spiraling beady eyes and salivating from their long slimy tongues. However, after hearing something only they could hear, they simultaneously shot their heads in the same direction. With the same level of synchronicity, they leapt from his bedroom window and raced above the Hoshito housetops at speeds far surpassing even the B-Rank.

They, along with many other unnervingly terrifying creatures, had their eyes set on the cosmopolitan city of Tokyo. Their intentions were unknown to all, but they appeared from every corner of the nation at the exact same time and advanced in a chaotically orderly fashion, with their destinations being the most populated area in Japan…

As unexplainable undercurrents washed through the nation, Cassius unknowingly experienced the setting of the sun in the west and the rising of the sun in the east a total of seven times.

He woke up bright and early one particular day, feeling exceptionally refreshed. This surprised him; after all, sleeping with thousands of pounds of weights pressing down on one's body would surely be incredibly uncomfortable. But for some reason, it made him feel at home, almost as if being restricted was the only way of life he had ever known.

'It's sort of depressing… But at least it makes me stronger,' he thought to himself while casually rolling out of bed.

After dressing himself appropriately for a work day off, Cassius opened his door and walked out into the hallway. He noticed no one outside today, but he didn't fixate on it. His footsteps echoed out softly, but with Aya's senses, she could immediately tell it was him, prompting her to peek through her slightly ajar door.

Usually, she would stay asleep until nearly noon during the summer, but as of late, she began waking up earlier. Her reasons were obvious, but one would never be able to hear them directly from her mouth.

"Hmm…"

Cassius felt the bear-like stare of the blonde pajama-wearing beauty silently stalking him around the house, yet he didn't confront her, merely chuckling as he made his way to the kitchen. Waiting for him was a pair of watery golden-brown eyes who, upon seeing him, pleaded with him to save her.

'Memphis seems to be adjusting just fine,' he mused before taking a seat right next to the aggrieved, mouse-like girl. She immediately clung to his shirt, averting her shaky eyes away from the cold-faced MILF sitting opposite her.

Cassius could tell that something was up, urging him to ask, "Did something happen?"

Memphis shuddered a little, whereas Sasha huffed. "That girl has been speaking about one day going into Gates! And no matter how I defer her away from that dangerous thought, she just keeps on nodding while retaining that unyielding glint in her gaze! It's simply…! Humph!"

'Ahh, so they're not fighting; Sasha is just worried.' Cassius warmly smiled, briefly dazzling both the girls at the table and even the one hiding behind a wall. "As long as you two are getting along, I think everything else can be worked out."

Sasha left her stupor at his words before turning her face to the side. A small pout touched upon her timeless features, which left a vast contrast to her motherly demeanor.

"That girl is too stubborn for me to possibly get along with her! She's already going to be attending your school for the new school year and is still a couple of years away from graduation—why is she so adamant about venturing into Gates and getting herself killed…!?"
