Chapter 388: The Weakling Returns
With his mind decided, Cassius rose from the empty vat. His mighty python came out to play, startling Luma a little, but he swiftly put it away, lest its size blind someone.
"I have some unfinished business in the village you guard, so why don't we stop by there first?"
Luma thought it over before nodding.
Cassius revealed a smirk that led to him and his beautiful Master departing from the cave that had been gathering dust for years.
As they descended a winding path that led down the mountain, a couple of scouts from the Village spotted them. Alarm quickly showed on their faces as they shot straight up and dashed in the direction of the multitude of simple buildings placed in an oddly shaped circle formation.
"Unknown intruders!!" they shouted at the top of their lungs. "Sound the sirens!! Unknown intruders!!!"
The ones watching over said 'sirens' grabbed hold of the necks of two roosters and squeezed before rubbing them. This caused them to let out shrill cries that echoed throughout the Village.
The first ones to come out in response to the blaring of the 'sirens' were the Village Chief as well as the Leaders of several Hunting Parties. Next to become interested in the calling of the sirens were the wives and children, who peeked their heads out of the doors of their homes.
The mother and daughter combo known as Xyla and Myra, however, felt a little more than the others upon seeing what the cause of the commotion was all about. Xyla, in particular, had her cheeks puffed out as she cutely stomped in place, her bow bobbing atop her small head.
"Weakling…" Myra, her busty mother, mumbled. "That not your Weakling, dear?"
Xyla nodded, slightly grumbling. "Weakling left me all alone that day, but now he comes back… Meanie!"
Myra observed her daughter, then looked back at the two figures descending the mountain that led to the residence of their Guardian Deity. Given what Cassius had done the other day in abandoning the Chieftain's daughter and the fact that he trespassed on Sacred Grounds…
"Sorry, dear, Weakling will be dying," Myra said to her daughter.
At first, Xyla put on a tough front, still pretending to be mad. But after no longer being able to hold it, the tears started to fall, giving way to the waterworks that ended up staining her mother's sparsely placed clothes.
"It's okay, little Xyla," Myra comforted her. "Momma will find you a new Weakling. A better Weakling to care for."
"B-But Momma," Xyla said through sniffles. "I liked that Weakling…! H-He was my favorite Weakling….!!"
"Haiz," her mother sighed, her round, sympathetic eyes glued to the extraordinarily handsome man whose fate was sure to be an ugly one. "If only you behaved, Weakling. Liked you as well…"
Meanwhile, at the mountain entrance to Bonecliff Village, the big and burly Village Chief domineeringly approached the two intruders. His stance was indomitable as he fiercely shouted:
"Do you admit to your crimes, Weakling!?"
"Crimes?" Cassius repeated, his head tilted, seemingly trying to recall memories from long ago. "Ah yes, something about leaving a kid. Where is she now, I wonder? That little girl?"
"!!!"
"Insolence!"
RUMBLE!
The ground around the Village Chief cracked and splintered, with his power simply too overwhelming. The other male Villagers who accompanied him out here to confront the intruders felt their knees buckle and cave in.
"To dare call out my daughter in such a way after discarding your duty as Personal Weakling!?" the Village Chieftain bellowed as a wrathful aura pulsated around him. "Does that court death!??"
'Even in a Primitive World, there are still those who use terms like that,' Cassius noted with a crooked smile.
"As for you," the Village Chief added with a furious tone as he turned his attention to the gorgeous Master Luma, "Who are you!? And purpose! State your purpose for being in such close proximity to the residence of our Guardian! If answer is not sufficient, certain death!!"
Normally, one would be mad or displeased if the ones they were protecting spoke to them in such a disrespectful manner. But not Luma. For she understood that they were just doing the jobs that she tasked them with all those years ago.
Figuring she would just leave this mess to her new favorite Disciple, Luma winked at him before linking her arm with his. This further infuriated the Village Chieftain, for he believed he was being treated as no more than a benign joke.
SHA!
Brandishing his large double-sized great ax, the Village Chieftain swung it toward the lean, handsome man. This swing aimed to cleave him in two, making him pay the price for breaking the laws that the Forefathers of Bonecliff Village erected dozens of moons ago.
"No!! Weakling…!!" Xyla cried out as she escaped her mother's embrace, running for Cassius.
"Xyla!"
Myra's calls echoed, but they fell on deaf ears. Xyla was already halfway to her father's position.
But by then, it was too late…
Suddenly!
SHWING—!
"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
With just two fingers, Cassius nipped the Great Ax by the bud. All the momentum it brought down with it dispersed in an instant. The Chieftain found himself overcome with shock, especially after realizing that he couldn't budge his ax from Cassius's steel grip.
It was like trying to resist the immovable pull of a million-ton freight train!
Impossible!
"Weakling!?" the Chieftain exclaimed as he let go of his double-sided ax before backing away. "Not so weak!?? How???"
Cassius showed no emotions through his expression. He simply flung the Great Ax aside before saying, "We need to talk."
The Chieftain was confused, but after recalling that immense physical strength from just a second ago, he realized a talk was for the best.
So that's precisely what they did.
Though, somewhere along the way, a teary-eyed girl joined in on the discussion. She clung to Cassius like she was afraid he'd disappear again; she also complained to him about how mean he was for leaving her all alone last time.
