Chapter 241: Mass Bloodline Upgrades, 5th Stage 3rd Class Slayer
WAAA!!
The moment the scythe was finished forming, an unbearable aura spread out from Cassius and engulfed both the cave and the space outside. The Nightmare corpses—which he had not bothered to do anything about—were rapidly corroded by this smothering aura. Then, without Cassius commanding it, the blood of the Nightmares—which had previously been uselessly poisonous to both him and Lilith—now flew toward them of its own volition.
In an instant, the blackish-red blood of tens of thousands of Rank 1, 2, and 3 Nightmares swarmed the figure floating ever so slightly off the ground. The countless gallons of blood slipped through the illusion before dividing itself between Master and Blade, urging forth evolution after evolution.
Furthermore, when Cassius's Slayer Weapon outwardly projected itself—officializing the breakthrough process—the absurd amount of blood progressing his Vampire Duke Bloodline even more seamlessly fused with him. A similar effect occurred for Lilith as she underwent an extreme advancement process.
Then, after a few seconds of rapid, uncontrollable changes, a plethora of system notifications rang out:
*Ding~!*
[Your Slayer Rank has advanced from '7th Stage Apprentice Slayer' → '1st Stage 3rd Class Slayer'] Discover hidden content at My Virtual Library Empire
However, the Slayer Rank advancements did not stop there, as the sea of Nightmare Essence within Cassius started to rage and rise into the air above it. Then a stupid amount of the Nightmare Essence crashed into his Slayer Weapon like waves against the shore.
His Slayer Rank skyrocketed…
[Your Slayer Rank has advanced from '1st Stage 3rd Class Slayer' → '2nd Stage 3rd Class Slayer']
[Your Slayer Rank has advanced from '2nd Stage 3rd Class Slayer' → '3rd Stage 3rd Class Slayer']
[Your Slayer Rank has advanced from '3rd Stage 3rd Class Slayer' → '4th Stage 3rd Class Slayer']
[Your Slayer Rank has advanced from '4th Stage 3rd Class Slayer' → '5th Stage 3rd Class Slayer']
His Rank eventually settled down in the middle of the 5th Stage, with his aura exploding outward less than a second later. All of his Main Physical Attributes took leap after leap, yet the stats shown in his System Interface remained unchanged. Since his Slayer Rank was an external source of power, the System did not include it in his stats, which also meant that he had still yet to technically exceed the S-Rank on the Awakener scale.
This also meant forceful Ascension would not occur when he returned to the Trial Floor of the Ascension Tower of Humanity.
Though, even if his overall cumulative stats did break into the SS-Rank, Cassius could still prevent a forceful Ascension. In a similar fashion to the powerful foreign invaders, he could either fool the world into thinking he was outside the world by staying in one small space, or he could restrict his stats. Either way, he could delay his ascension until the time was opportune.
But regardless of what he might or might not do, as his breakthroughs were deemed a huge success, he required some time to consolidate his strength. Which, frankly speaking, was massive. Massive enough to make it so that he couldn't even feel the ridiculous amount of weight he carried on his person because of his Newbie 8 Equipment Set and Newbie 8 Sword.
However, with his luck, the Idle Evolution System was likely to throw out one, maybe even two Newbie Equipment upgrades in the near future…
"Should I feel happy or sad about that?"
Cassius honestly didn't know anymore. He wasn't sure about anything regarding his feelings or emotions…
It was terrifying—utterly horrifying—but that same haunting sensation from before began to rear its head once more. The unsettling realization that pieces of himself were steadily, inexorably slipping into oblivion. Especially after enduring death hundreds of times... no, thousands of times…
He didn't even know if he could recognize himself anymore.
Only the phantom pain from his every death was there to accompany him every step of the way. That… that he could recognize.
'The pain,' he thought. 'I just have to follow the pain. I'll never lose my sense of being that way. That is what I must do.'
But then again, how would someone who couldn't even recognize himself possibly be able to tell if he has or has not lost more of himself?
It was all rigged. Every single bit of it.
But with the pursuit of more strength taking front, line, and center, Cassius spent the next couple of hours solidifying his strength. Then he rose from his meditative position and stared at the incoming System Notifications, informing him of both his Bloodline upgrades and Lilith's upgrades.
*Ding!*
[|Duke Vampire Bloodline (EX-)| has rapidly progressed from < 10% → 100%, causing it to evolve to the EX-Rank!]
[|Duke Vampire Bloodline (EX)| has progressed to 0.8%!]
[All other Bloodlines below the EX-Rank have been forcefully advanced by a single minor Rank!]
[|Demon King Bloodline (SSS+) → |Demon King Bloodline (SSS++)|]
[|Legendary Phoenix Bloodline (SSS+++) → |Mythic Phoenix Bloodline (EX-)|]
Cassius's Phoenix Bloodline—which had advanced by leaps and bounds because of all the times he died—now took one humongous jump into the transcendent EX-Rank.
Now, he had two EX-Rank Bloodlines, both of which were immensely powerful and useful!
But with more pop-ups appearing, Cassius had little time to pause on just a single upgrade:
[Maximum Daily Rebirths have increased from 1500 → 2500]
[|Oracle Sphinx Bloodline (SSS)| → |Oracle Sphinx Bloodline (SSS+)|]
[|Demon Dragon Bloodline (SSS)| → |Demon Dragon Bloodline (SSS+)|]
[Growth Weapon 'Devil Blade Lilith' has advanced from the 'S+++' Rank to the 'SS++' Rank!]
[|Lilith's Attack + 38,600|]
RUMBLE!!!
Just Lilith's presence alone caused a good chunk of the Boundless Gorge to shake and quake. Her outer appearance transformed from her already domineering design to something even more oppressive. She took on the form of a mighty 4-meter-long greatsword—one that required Cassius to levitate off the ground to avoid letting dig into the floor.
Lilith retained her original black-and-red color scheme, but there was also a newly added glowing purple hue that traveled up and down her razor-sharp edges like streams of a river. Those same glowing purple streams ignited the rest of her surface, making blackish-red flames flare from all over. An additional bloody effect lined her edges, similar in function to his now completely formed Slayer Scythe.
