India: Ashoka's path to glory

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: The Unsettling News from the South

The warm, salty air of the coastal city carried with it an unsettling whisper that reached the heart of Ashoka's grand palace in Pataliputra. The distant waves crashing against the shores seemed to be an eerie prelude to the grim news that was about to arrive. Ashoka, who had been sitting in his chamber, calmly overseeing the administration of his empire, was interrupted by a messenger bearing unsettling tidings.

"My Lord," the messenger said, bowing deeply before Ashoka, "terrible news from the southern coastal city of Madurai. The port has been attacked, and more than a hundred lives have been lost. Two strange beings, unlike anything we have seen before, arrived and unleashed chaos. These beings are unlike any warrior or enemy we have encountered—they are powerful beyond comprehension."

Ashoka's eyes narrowed as the messenger continued. "They call themselves Deviants. They battled a group of ten individuals with powers we cannot explain—individuals who were seemingly invincible. The fighting was fierce, and the destruction was catastrophic. These beings are unlike any human force we have encountered."

"Deviants?" Ashoka murmured under his breath, his mind racing. He had heard the term before, but it had been from a distant memory, one that had lingered from his past life in 2025 CE. He had seen them in the Marvel movies and comics—beings of immense power, dangerous and destructive, from a world far beyond his own. But how could they be here? In this world?

He stood up abruptly, his thoughts racing. "Tell me more," he demanded, his voice steady but filled with a deep sense of foreboding.

The messenger continued, "The battle was intense. The Deviants seemed unstoppable, but they were opposed by a group of ten beings who fought back with incredible strength. These beings... they were like nothing we've seen. They had abilities beyond mortal comprehension. They were... eternal, unyielding in their resolve. Some spoke of them as 'Eternals,' a name I've never heard before. But they fought valiantly and drove the Deviants away, although the damage was already done. The port is in ruins, and many lives were lost."

Ashoka felt his pulse quicken as the name "Eternals" echoed in his mind. He knew this name—he knew it all too well. In his previous life, in the year 2025, Ashoka had read about the Eternals and the Deviants in the Marvel comics and movies. He had followed their stories, intrigued by the concepts of beings with powers beyond human comprehension, immortal beings with a mysterious past, and their ongoing struggle with the Deviants. But how could they be here? In his world?

His thoughts spun out of control. Could it be that I've traveled to another world? Ashoka's heart raced as the implications of this realization hit him like a wave. This is not the world I know. This is not the Earth I came from. I have somehow crossed into a universe where the stories I once read are real, where the characters I once admired exist in flesh and blood.

Ashoka had always suspected that something was different about his rebirth. The system, the abilities granted to him by the Great Sage, and the mysterious connection to the past—all of it had hinted at a reality beyond the ordinary. But to be thrust into a world where beings like the Deviants and Eternals existed... It was more than Ashoka had ever imagined.

He walked to the window of his palace, looking out over the city. His mind was a whirlpool of conflicting emotions—fear, confusion, and awe. What is this place? he thought. How is this possible?

His thoughts were interrupted by the messenger's voice, still standing before him. "My Lord, the survivors of the battle have been brought to the city. They speak of the Eternals—how they came from the stars, how they are ancient beings, and how they fought against the Deviants to protect our land. They are unlike any mortals we have ever seen. Some of them seem to possess abilities beyond even what we can comprehend. Their leader is a figure of immense power, a being who calls himself Ikaris. He commands the elements, and his strength is said to be unmatched."

Ashoka felt a chill run down his spine as he processed this information. Ikaris. The name struck a deep chord in his memory. He knew of him. He knew of all the Eternals, their powers, their stories, their conflicts with the Deviants. This is no coincidence, Ashoka thought. This is the world of Marvel, the universe of the comics and films I once read about.

He turned to the messenger, his face serious. "Gather all the survivors of the battle and bring them to me. I need to speak with them."

The messenger nodded and hurried away, leaving Ashoka alone with his thoughts. His mind was in turmoil, his understanding of the world shattered. How is it possible that I have crossed into this reality? Ashoka thought. Was it the awakening of the system? Did it alter the fabric of the universe itself?

He walked to the center of the room, his mind racing. I am in a world where the stories I read in my previous life are now real. I have to tread carefully. These Eternals—they could be allies or enemies. And the Deviants... they are a threat to the entire world.

Ashoka knew that his next steps would be crucial. He had to understand this new world, these new forces that had appeared, and how they fit into the grand scheme of his empire. The Mauryan Empire was powerful, but it was nothing compared to the cosmic forces he was now facing.

But there was one thing Ashoka knew for certain: This is no longer just a battle for the Mauryan Empire. This is a battle for the survival of this entire world. And I will do whatever it takes to protect it.

As he prepared to meet the survivors, Ashoka couldn't help but feel a sense of dread mixed with awe. The world he had once known was gone, and in its place was a reality that was both terrifying and wondrous. The Eternals, the Deviants, and the fate of the world were now intertwined with his own.

And Ashoka, the ageless emperor, knew that the time had come for him to face this new reality head-on.
