Chapter 18
Shortly after Kuro left the open field in front of the Forest of Death, he realized that there were no rewards for placing first in the tournament.
Since he had no one to ask about the reward, he decided to ask the Hokage when he goes to his office tomorrow.
…
Kagami yo kagami kotaechatte
Who's the best? I'm the best! Oh yeah
Namami no mama ikeru toko made
To the next, to the ichiban ue
Now singin'
Bling-bang-bang, bling-bang-bang, bling-bang-bang-born
…
Kuro was humming a song from his previous world as he walked down the streets toward the Nara clan compound.
He nodded to the guards before heading toward his house only to stop when he realized the lights were on. He remembered turning off the lights before heading toward the academy today.
With cautious steps, he opened the front door and saw shoes that were not his.
Summoning out his katana, he made way toward the living room.
"FREEZE!" He shouted as he jumped into the living room. "I have a big GUN and I am not afraid to use it!"
Kuro has his sword pointed toward a man sitting on the couch and a woman cooking dishes.
"Mom? Dad?" Kuro stuttered when he saw the man looking at him with pity and the woman flaring face.
"Hoh. It seems someone was learning such indecent stuff during the year I was gone." Kokomi smiled as she cracked her fist. "It seems someone forgot the taste of a fist full of love."
(≖ ͜ʖ≖)
Kuro started sweating hard as he quickly put the katana away. He shot a glance at his father only to see him shaking his head.
"Sorry son. You're on your own." Kigan shakes his head.
。^‿^。
Kuro gulped, wishing he hadn't cracked the gun joke. He only cracked the joke because realized no one in their right mind would infiltrate a house and left the lights on with their shoes at the front door.
Crack crack crack
Kuro was sweating more the closer the cracking of the knuckle sounded. Before he could reach, he felt pain and started to see stars.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
3 bumps appear as Kuro slump down grabbing his head.
"Seriously?!" Kuro groaned. "I thought you were supposed to be happy to see me after all this time! That's what the books always say!"
Kokomi crossed her arms, standing over him with a raised eyebrow. "You really thought you could get away with that joke, huh? we have been gone for a year and this is what you say the first thing you saw us?"
"I thought you were intruders!"
"What kind of person starts with a dirty joke when facing an intruder?" Kokomi glare intensified as Kuro tried to defend himself.
Kuro winced, blinking up at her as the pain in his head started to settle into a dull ache. "I didn't think it through," he muttered, rubbing his sore scalp. He got up and went to the couch and sat beside his dad.

His dad, Kigan, sighed. "You should have remembered, son. You never take on your mother when she's in a mood."
Kuro shot his dad a betrayed look, but Kigan simply shrugged. "It's the truth. You're lucky that it was just a greeting punch and not a real one."
Kokomi's smile turned sweet and almost mischievous. "It was a real one, Kigan. Don't lie. He's lucky I didn't throw in a roundhouse."
Kuro started sweating again after hearing his mom's words. "Y-y-y-you know mom. There's no need to be so violent!"
After Kuro finished his sentence, he felt his father move away from him. He was confused until he heard more cracking noises.
Kokomi cracked her knuckles again, her smile turning devilish. "Oh, I was just getting started. It is not violent when it is love."
Kuro flinched, quickly waving his hands. "I'm sorry! I get it! I'll never joke about having a gun again! And never call you violent!"
Kigan moves further away from Kuro. "This kid doesn't learn, does he? He keeps digging his own grave."
That night, all the neighbors could hear a dying scream coming from Kuro house. He was also forced to tell the events that happened in the last year.
…
The next morning
Kuro groaned as he dragged himself out of bed the next morning, every movement sending jolts of pain through his body. He could already feel the four bumps on his head just by lightly brushing his hand against them.
"Note to self," he muttered, carefully maneuvering as he tried not to aggravate any of the bruises. "Never, ever make a joke about guns... or anything really... when mom's around."
Kuro shuffled through the house, avoiding the kitchen where his mom was undoubtedly already making breakfast. The thought of another punch to the head made him wince. He glanced over at the Skill Evolution Token, still sitting in the corner of the room, untouched. He didn't have the energy—or the courage—to deal with it after last night's ordeal. Maybe later.
"Okay," he muttered under his breath, pulling on his jacket and adjusting his hair in the mirror, "today, I just need to go to the Hokage office and get away from mom for a little while. That's the goal. Stay alive. Get some space."
The idea of facing his mom again already had him breaking into a cold sweat, but he forced himself to push it down. "Hokage office first. Then maybe... I don't know, laze around the park or something."
With that thought, Kuro made his way toward the Hokage office, hoping for a relatively peaceful day—anything to take his mind off his bruised head and the nightmare that was his mother.
