In other words, the damaged section was practically obliterated. If the same spot took another missile hit, it wouldn't hold up.

To resolve this critical issue, Lemu unleashed his ultimate weapon—

The Great Sage.

With its terrifying computational power, the Great Sage completely deconstructed and reconstructed the neural control interface, achieving a leap in technological advancement far beyond conventional methods.

Lemu also took this opportunity to rename the device to something more intuitive—"Force Field Generator."

Since the entire upgrade process was handled solely by him, Stark had zero say in the naming.

Had it been left to just Lemu and Stark—two mere carbon-based lifeforms—this kind of breakthrough-level reconstruction would have taken months, if not a year or two.

After all, humans have limits.

Even slimes do.

With the Force Field Generator now upgraded, its range and area of effect could be freely adjusted.

Its peak power output, which had already been enhanced once before, was now further amplified. Even its sustained power efficiency had seen a drastic improvement.

Not only did it maintain its function of protecting the user, but it now also provided enhanced armor protection.

The energy-saving mechanics from the original design remained—by using sensors embedded throughout the armor, the generator could anticipate incoming attacks and deploy the force field at the last possible moment, layering multiple fields to disperse the kinetic energy of incoming threats.

Against widespread explosive forces, the system could even distribute the force field across the entire suit for maximum protection.

The instant the force field activated, its gravitational effect was so strong that it could momentarily create a vacuum in its immediate surroundings.

Fortunately, the armor itself was designed to be airtight and vacuum-sealed, ensuring the wearer wouldn't be affected.

Meanwhile, Stark's data-extraction USB drive was finally completed.

Before the operation, Lemu insisted on accompanying Pepper to Stark Industries for the infiltration.

His official excuse?

A simple tour.

A perfectly reasonable request. It wouldn't raise Obadiah's suspicions and gave Pepper a convenient cover.

In truth, however, he was worried about Pepper's safety—and more importantly, he needed to ensure everything unfolded according to plan.

On the way to the company, Lemu discreetly sent a text to a certain agent working for the "Ridiculously Long-Named Bureau."

"Agent Coulson, meet me outside Stark Industries. Remember—unless I approach you first, pretend you don't know me."

Previously, Coulson had attempted to gather intel on Stark through Lemu.

Lemu used the opportunity to obtain Coulson's contact information, telling him that he would reach out when the time was right.

That time was now.

When Lemu and Pepper arrived at Stark Industries, Agent Coulson was already seated in the first-floor hallway, maintaining a professional and composed demeanor.

The hallway was bustling with employees coming and going.

Lemu and Coulson exchanged a brief glance, but both immediately looked away, walking past each other like complete strangers.

Lemu followed Pepper casually, his gaze wandering around the office space with curiosity.

In contrast, Pepper was visibly tense.

Sensing her unease, Lemu gently patted her hand, flashing a small smile to remind her to act natural.

XX Floor – CEO's Office

The two arrived at Tony Stark's office without issue.

The environment was pleasant, spacious, and well-furnished—

A plush leather sofa, a small bed for naps, and a side table stocked with wine and bread sat neatly in one corner.

At the center of the room was the main desk and computer, while behind it, a large floor-to-ceiling glass window offered a panoramic view of the factory grounds below.

Lemu recalled that this office was supposed to house one of Howard Stark's legacies—a miniature city model that secretly recorded the structure of a new element.

Yet, scanning the room, he saw no sign of it.

Most likely, it hadn't been placed here yet.

It was probably still collecting dust in some warehouse.

Pepper settled into the CEO's chair, nervously licking her dry lips.

She powered on the computer, inserted the decryption USB, and watched as the program began running across the screen.

This was the first time in her life she had ever done something like this.

Her heart pounded wildly—she half-expected Obadiah Stane to burst out from the ceiling, a cabinet, or from under the desk at any moment.

Meanwhile, Lemu strolled around the office completely at ease.

Passing by the side table, he casually sliced off a small piece of bread and popped it into his mouth.

The taste was excellent—

A Russian-style Borodinsky bread, filled with walnuts and raisins. The rich wheat aroma, combined with a hint of natural sweetness, made for a perfect bite.

Pleased, he promptly sliced off half of the remaining loaf—a good half a pound—and leaned against the table, munching as he observed Pepper at work.

"Want a piece?"

"No."

Pepper rolled her eyes, replying curtly.

Still, her tension eased slightly.

She wasn't sure whether she should admire Lemu's composure or be utterly dumbfounded.

How can he eat at a time like this?!

The CEO's computer was successfully unlocked.

Pepper scanned through the data drive, searching for the weapon shipment files—but they were nowhere to be found.

Instead—

She discovered something unexpected.

A blueprint of the Mark I armor appeared on the screen—reverse-engineered from the physical model.

Alongside it was a modified design based on the Mark I—the Iron Monger.

Both reports were submitted by Section 16, with the project being conducted beneath the Large Arc Reactor.

However, what truly caught Pepper's breath was the third file—

A video message from the Ten Rings, addressed to Obadiah Stane.

She clicked on it.

The office was dead silent, and without realizing it, she held her breath.

The video played in a low, ominous volume.

On the screen, masked terrorists in eccentric robes were seen restraining Tony Stark.

They were clearly dissatisfied with Obadiah's low payment offer—and had refused to kill Stark, demanding a higher price for the job.

It was clear now—Obadiah had orchestrated the entire attack.

Had he agreed to pay the terrorists, Stark would have been dead long ago.

Fate was fickle. Life was unpredictable.

At this very moment—

The prisoner in the video, Tony Stark, was alive, yet the leader of the Ten Rings, standing behind him, had died just days ago.

Pepper's face drained of color as she watched the footage.

Her fear deepened.

A cold chill crawled from the top of her head, down her spine, and into her very bones.

She had known Obadiah was illegally selling weapons.

But this?

He had orchestrated a terrorist attack on Tony Stark.

A man this ruthless and cunning had been right beside them all along, flawlessly maintaining the façade of a kind, trustworthy mentor.

It was like discovering that your best friend, or a longtime roommate, someone you had trusted and laughed with for years, had secretly harbored a hidden grudge against you.

And every night—

A pair of unhinged, obsessive eyes had been watching you as you slept.

Perhaps it was because you accidentally took a scholarship that should have been theirs two years ago—

Or because three months from now, the two of you were up for the same promotion.

Who knows?

What mattered was—they wanted you dead.

And they didn't care how.

Poisoning your drink. Sabotaging your brakes. A little "accidental" push while hiking near a cliff. A rock to the back of your head while fishing.

Just the thought alone sent shivers down her spine.

The video ended.

The office plunged into an even deeper silence.

Pepper's heart hammered against her ribs, her head spinning slightly from lack of oxygen.

And then—

Click.

The office door suddenly unlocked and swung open.

"Oh! Lemu! Pepper!"
