Chapter 216: Stealing Tang San External Spirit Bone II
Everyone silently agreed. They were tired from the journey, but more than that, they needed to conserve their strength for what was to come.
Oscar and Tang San both looked more focused than ever. They would be stepping into the forest to earn their third spirit rings—an important breakthrough in any Spirit Master's path.
As the group settled into their rooms, the evening passed quietly. Dinner was simple but filling. Afterward, most of the group retreated early to rest, their minds already running through tomorrow's possibilities.
In the privacy of his room, Tang San sat cross-legged, meditating under the moonlight that slipped through the window.
Oscar quietly rehearsed his spirit incantations, preparing himself mentally.
Outside, the forest waited—vast, dark, and full of life.
Tomorrow, they would enter it.
The moonlight spilled softly through the paper window screens, casting a faint glow across the quiet room.
Mo Luochen lay in the center of the bed, one arm curled around Felicia on his right, the other gently resting on Renxue's waist on his left. Both girls were fast asleep—Felicia's breath calm and steady, her head nestled near his shoulder, while Renxue clung lightly to him, her expression unusually peaceful.
He glanced between the two sleeping faces beside him and smiled faintly. The journey had been long, but somehow, with these two beside him, it didn't feel tiring at all.
This world's really changing because of me, he thought quietly. Bit by bit.
His mind wandered back—recalling an event from a day before.
The Day Before – Roadside, Near Shrek Academy
They had taken a different path this time and arrived nearly a full day ahead of schedule compared to the original timeline.
The reason? Mo Luochen had declined the low-end carriage originally arranged by Flender. Instead, he used his own funds to hire a top-tier enchanted carriage—one that cut the travel time down from four days to just two. Thanks to that, they completely avoided the scheduled encounter with Canghui Academy, sidestepping the conflict that once took place.
Back at the Inn – Present
Mo Luochen exhaled softly, adjusting the blanket around the girls.
Fights that don't need to happen... don't have to happen, he mused. There are bigger threats ahead anyway.
As the sounds of the forest murmured through the window, he finally closed his eyes. Tomorrow, Oscar and Tang San would begin their hunt for spirit rings—also the time when he will stole tang San External Spirit bones.
And for now, with Felicia and Renxue safe beside him, that was more than enough.
Next Morning – Star Dou Forest
Golden sunlight pierced through the treetops of the Star Dou Forest, scattering beams across the dew-covered ground. The morning air was crisp and thick with the scent of damp earth and wild spirit energy.
The group gathered outside the inn after a hearty breakfast. Felicia stretched lazily, her long black hair tied in a high ponytail, while Qian Renxue adjusted the hilt of her Light Sword calmly at her waist.
Mo Luochen stepped out last, calm and composed as always. "Alright. Time to head out."
Oscar, looking more excited than nervous, patted his pouch of sausages. "Spirit Beast hunt… I've been waiting for this."
Tang San stood beside him, focused as always, eyes sharp. "We should be cautious. The Star Dou Forest isn't ordinary wilderness. It's a place ruled by spirit beasts, especially in the deeper regions."
Zhao Wuji, his face still faintly bruised from Tang Hao's "visit," gave a small cough and nodded. "I'll stay close. But you guys have to rely on your own strength. I'll only step in if your lives are truly in danger."
"Don't forget, this is still an exercise," he added gruffly—then, with a quiet motion, vanished from sight, his aura retreating into the shadows of the forest.
"Well… I guess that means we're on our own," Mo Luochen muttered calmly as he glanced at the group. He gently placed his hand on ground and then said "There's a suitable beast ahead, likely for Oscar. Let's go."
The group nodded and followed, weaving through the thick foliage. The forest around them was alive with rustling leaves, distant growls, and the occasional flutter of spirit beasts moving overhead.
No one questioned him, especially after Mo Luochen introduced his Martial Spirit as a spiritual-type—a rare and mysterious category. According to him, it greatly enhanced his senses, perception, and battlefield awareness. And after watching how naturally he adapted to the shifting environment, how he sensed changes in the forest before they happened, the others didn't doubt it for a second.
He didn't flaunt power; he simply was powerful.
Moving deeper into the Star Dou Forest, the group shifted into a practiced formation designed to counter ambushes from any direction. Mo Luochen remained at the center, acting as the group's sensor and commander. His gaze scanned every shadow, every flicker of movement—reading the forest like an open book.
Felicia and Qian Renxue stayed near him on either side, ready to react instantly to any threat. Zhu Zhuqing ranged ahead on the right flank, weaving silently through the underbrush. Her steps were barely audible, her body nearly invisible in the dappled light. Tang San mirrored her on the left, blue silver grass trailing from his fingers like a web of awareness that felt out for traps and hostile intent.
Oscar and Ning Rongrong held the rear. Oscar stayed alert, ready to throw support sausages at a moment's notice, while Ning Rongrong kept her buffs primed, her Rainbow Glazed Pagoda hovering beside her.
They moved as one—calm, efficient, and ready. Each person knew their role, and every movement was executed with purpose.
Mo Luochen halted for a split second, his eyes narrowing. A soft rustle—a shift in the leaves. Something was approaching fast.
"It's coming toward us," he said calmly. "Zhuqing, be ready to intercept."
Zhu Zhuqing didn't respond—she was already gone, melting into the shadows of the underbrush. Her eyes gleamed as she tracked the faint disturbance moving through the trees.
A sudden whoosh—and a sleek, snake-like creature burst from the canopy.
But it wasn't slithering.
It was flying.
Covered in glimmering silver scales and bearing crescent-shaped wings, the creature hissed sharply as it hovered in the air, a dangerous gleam in its eyes.
"It's a Phoenix-Tailed Crescent Serpent!" Luochen identified quickly.
