In Konoha, This Naruto Has Decided To Take It Easy

Chapter 572 A Healthy Body Was Just As Important As Work

Naruto didn't care and had an extremely strong mentality.

He knew what was going on and didn't do anything drastic. He just teased Mabui on a whim as a punishment for her earlier harsh tone.

Though he didn't take her trash talk to heart, he also had no intention of letting her off easily. A young tree won't grow straight without pruning, and a person won't be disciplined without some correction.

Mabui's heart pounded violently, and she felt like she was walking a tightrope. Her mind was working at 200% capacity as she nervously watched Yondaime Raikage.

"Are you sick? Why does your face look so red?"

"It won't affect my work, Raikage-sama." In the end, Mabui is a professional secretary. She knows Yondaime Raikage well enough and was quick-witted.

understood that when she threw out this line, Yondaime Raikage would likely say that a healthy body was just as important as work. He might even give her two days off.

No matter what, Yondaime Raikage wouldn't pursue the topic further.

Sure enough, Yondaime Raikage was stunned for a moment after hearing this, and then said after a moment.

"Health is more important than work. I'll go personally then… you can go back and rest."

With that, he actually took a step forward. This scared both Mabui and Naruto greatly, after all, the desk wasn't very high, and if Yondaime Raikage got any closer, he would definitely notice something off.

The space beneath the desk was just big enough to hide a person, but if he looked closely, he'd notice that Mabui's legs weren't fully extended. In fact, they were slightly apart.

This is obviously unnatural, after all, why would she sit in such an awkward position when there was space under the desk? While Yondaime Raikage has a rough temperament, he wasn't stupid.

A quick glance would be enough to spot the irregularity.

Mabui obviously noticed this and panicked. But Yondaime Raikage had already come over and it was too late to avoid the situation.

At this moment, only one thought occupied her mind:

'I'm doomed!'

Thinking about her lifelong reputation, Mabui nearly teared up. But fortunately, she remained calm and would never confess easily unless it was absolutely necessary.

"Where are the documents?" Yondaime Raikage had already reached the desk. He took a casual glance and saw the document, then reached out and grabbed it.

'Gulp.'

Mabui's eyes went blank for a moment, and she swallowed nervously. Suddenly, she heard Yondaime Raikage exclaim in surprise, and when she looked up, she saw he staring at the bottom of the desk.

Thump, thump, thump.

Mabui's heart was beating rapidly at this moment. At the same time, she instinctively closed her eyes, bracing herself for the inevitable discovery.

If she were to be branded a traitor to Kumogakure, her life would be over. But to her surprise, Yondaime Raikage didn't roar in anger. Instead, he spoke in a neutral tone, "Mabui, a document fell under the desk."

"Huh?" Mabui opened her eyes and cautiously looked under the desk. Her eyes widened in shock.

Naruto, who was hidden under the table, had disappeared without a trace. There was only a dropped document on the ground. Other than that, there was nothing else.

'He disappeared?' Mabui was a little confused, but fortunately, she was quick-witted and didn't freeze for long. She responded swiftly, bent down to pick up the document, and regained her usual composed expression.

As for that brief moment of hesitation, Yondaime Raikage didn't pay it any mind and turned away. He simply assumed it was because Mabui was feeling unwell and sluggish in her reactions.

Even if Yondaime Raikage noticed that something was wrong with Mabui, he would not associate it with the rat that sneaked in. After all, how could a rookie who was discovered by the Kumogakure's Anbu when they entered the village easily sneak into the Raikage Building?

As for betrayal? Hahaha, how could there be a traitor in Kumogakure! If you doubt someone, don't employ them, and if you employ someone, don't doubt them. Yondaime Raikage believed that he was surrounded by loyal subordinates.

"Where did he go?" Mabui couldn't help but stand up and search around the other side of the desk. As soon as he bent down, she felt someone patted her buttocks.

"Ah!"

"What are you looking for?" Naruto's voice suddenly came from behind her.

Hearing this, Mabui spun around abruptly and stared at Naruto for a long time as if she had seen a ghost. Her eyes were full of doubt and uncertainty, and after a few seconds, she finally asked, "You scared me to death! Where did you hide just now??"

"It's just a little trick. I don't want to tell you." Naruto wasn't about to let Mabui fish for information.

Even thought if he told her, she wouldn't be able to leak his secrets, Naruto really didn't bother to say anything and didn't give her any chance.

Especially when dealing with someone as sharp as Mabui, he knew that he couldn't completely control her just by relying on her being a Jashin's follower.

Since Mabui cared about her reputation, Naruto would use that against her, keeping her in check through relentless threats. It's a mix of rewards and intimidation… he wouldn't let her take advantage of him.

"Oh, if you don't want to tell me, then don't tell me. I don't really care to know anyway." Mabui didn't seem embarrassed when her purpose was discovered, and changed the subject.

"What do you want from me?" She asked.

"Uchiha Sasuke and his team have sneaked into your village. I hope you can do me a small favor." Naruto sat on the chair that originally belonged to her, lazily rocking back and forth.

His gaze briefly swept over her black stockings before shifting back to her face. The more he looked at her, the more pleasing he found her to the eye.

"You want me to help Uchiha Sasuke evade the Anbu's pursuit?" Mabui crossed her arms and replied coolly, "If that's what you're thinking, I'll have to refuse."

"It's not that I don't want to help… but it's simply beyond my capabilities I'm just a secretary who handles paperwork. Overstepping my role would get me investigated by the Anbu."

"Who said I need you to help Uchiha Sasuke?" Naruto was stunned.

"Isn't that the case? You were both Konoha's Shinobi, and as far as I know, you were even assigned to the same team. Your relationship should be quite close."

Naruto suddenly stood up, and pointed at Mabui in mock horror.

"You investigated me?"

"No, I just happened to come across some old records." Mabui shook her head and said, "Kumogakure's spies have long gathered intelligence on Konoha and compiled rough profiles."

"However, due to your unique status, your file is more detailed than the others."

Hearing this, Naruto suddenly felt rather uncomfortable.

The Five Great Shinobi Countries had this one downside… they were always secretly training spies to infiltrate enemy territories and gather intelligence.

You probe into my secrets, I probe into yours, and the cycle of mutual testing never ends.

Although intelligence warfare had existed since ancient times, Naruto felt that instead of spending all that money for such thing, it would be better for everyone to prepare their own information and exchange it with each other regularly.

"How detailed is the intelligence?" Naruto suddenly became concerned about what Kumogakure had found out. If it involved Ino and Hinata, he would have to retaliate.
