Chapter 112: Chapter:0.111: Tangled Threads part II
Location Academy Library, Quiet Reading Corner
"I'm going to wander around a bit," Jien said as he stood, stretching his arms behind his head with the lazy elegance of a cat that had never feared consequence.
Rena looked up from her book, golden eyes narrowing slightly. "Where?"
He shrugged. "Anywhere that's not here. I've already finished all the academy's curriculum, remember? Mother and Sion drilled it into me since I could walk. I'm basically a graduate in disguise."
A sly smile tugged at his lips. "Don't miss me too much, my golden goddess."
She scowled. "I won't."
"Liar."
He winked, and with a mock bow, he turned and sauntered off, his long black coat swaying behind him like a shadow that didn't want to leave her.
And just like that, she was alone.
The silence that settled over her wasn't peaceful — it was suffocating. Like air that refused to fill her lungs right. She stared at the tome before her, but the words blurred, rearranged, danced in mocking loops. The space beside her was still warm from where he'd sat.
She hated that she missed him the moment he left.
He was loud. Arrogant. Infuriating. And still… without him near, the world felt a little less vivid.
A traitorous thought slithered into her mind.
**What if some girl talks to him?**
Her fingers tightened on the edge of the book.
Jin was… beautiful. Painfully so. With that untamed black hair, those mischievous crimson eyes, and that deep, teasing voice that made everything he said sound like a half-promise, half-threat.
He was chaos in tailored black — and girls *looked*.
Of course they did.
They whispered, they giggled, they blushed.
And worse… they *touched*.
Rena's jaw clenched.
Her mind, ever cruel, conjured a memory she'd rather bury — *Sarafina Frost*, that smug little glacier in high heels, had touched him.
Yesterday.
Right in front of her.
She didn't just touch him — *she shook his damn hand* like she was sealing a private contract. Her pale blue eyes had sparkled with false civility, and her lips had curled into that sickly-sweet smile that Rina wanted to slap off her face.
That frosty bitch.
A cursed snowflake wrapped in silk.
Rena stood up abruptly, the chair scraping softly beneath her. She could still see it — Sarafina's long silver hair cascading over her shoulder, her smug aristocratic posture, her voice like honey laced with poison:
"Oh, *you* must be the infamous Jien. What a pleasure."
Rina wanted to throw up.
What if she was slinking around the academy right now, hoping to "accidentally" bump into him again? What if she was somewhere batting her frosted lashes, offering to show him the greenhouse, or worse — the alchemy lab?
What if she touched him again?
Rena didn't even remember grabbing her things, but the next thing she knew, she was marching out of the library with purpose in her stride and heat in her veins.
"Like hell I'm letting that icy tramp get anywhere near him."
She muttered the words under her breath, but her aura practically sizzled. Students instinctively stepped out of her way as she passed, some blinking at the sudden temperature shift in the corridor.
She could feel her magic simmering just beneath her skin. Not in a destructive way — not yet — but in the kind of barely-contained heat that whispered:
**Mine.**
Maybe it was irrational. Maybe it was petty.
But Jin was *hers*.
Even if he drove her mad. Even if he teased her until she wanted to throw him off a tower and kiss him on the way down. Even if she hadn't yet admitted aloud what she felt…
It didn't matter.
He was her husband.
And Sarafina Frost could keep her frosty little fingers *off*.
