Chapter 289: 286 - Emperors Speech
The crowd before him was roaring with fervor, the peoples spirits which had just weeks ago been as low as they could be were brought up to the peak of existence.
They once more had a king, no they had an Emperor, and their Kingdom, had become a part of a new Empire!
Julius stood resolute atop the stage still holding Serena's hand as the pair watched their people celebrating in front of them.
That is until Julius silenced them by raising his right hand.
Empress Serena stood by his side awaiting their emperors next words just like her people.
His hand raised and when the people saw it they started to fall silent, only a few at first but like a wave the silence spread until it touched every corner of the square.
"Then by the will of the Carthaginian people, I no longer shall call myself a King, just as Serena beside me shall no longer refer to herself as a Queen. No. The time for such small titles has passed. From now on I am Emperor Julius Aquitania Ceasar, Sovereign of the Romanus Peoples, and as you all know this beautiful young lady by my side shall be my Empress-the very heart and sould of this land has ordained the pair of us and we shall strive to fight to become a beacon of our nations future."
He slowly turned, letting his eyes scan across the sea of foreign faces-farmers, soot-stained blacksmiths, veterans, even wide-eyed children.
"Together, we shall not only rebuild this wartorn land, We will forge a far greater nation than this world has ever known. One that will not fall to petty squabbles or foreign crowns, nor fade beneath the weight of time. We shall revitalize these lands. Every road rebuilt and made better, Every field replanted and treated to produce greater yields. Every village restored and not to what it once was but to what they should always have been. Your children shall be educated-not as servants to nobility but as stewards of the nation, to expand our interests in science, military arts, and law. Schools and academies shall rise where ashes once lay."
His new romans before him were murmuring, some questioning whether or not this new monarch of theirs really could deliver on all his promises, while the majority were just swept up in the moment and cheered on their new Emperor, and Empress believing they could change the very laws of the word.
Then the Emperor continued on.
"I do not promise you without asking something from you however. The road ahead of us will be steep. There surely will be hardship and loss. Even now Romanus' lands are under threat from Francia, and Visigoth who seek to wage their own wars of conquest on the continent, while the Principality looks to do the same to Carthage. Unless it becomes necessary none of you should fear conscirption into the army but for those of you who would be willing to sacrifice their all we shall welcome you with open arms into the ever expanding corp of our Legions. We shall carve our names into the annals of time. And when the world speaks of empires, they will speak of the ancient empire of rome, and the reborn <Placeholder> Empire."
The thundering cheers and screams of the crowd echoed around the cityscape shaking its very foundations.
"Long Live the Emperor!"
"Long Live the Empire!"
"Romanus! Carthage! One Banner! One People!"
The armies drums and horns blared adding to the noise.
Even as the forces of the Principality were enacting their plans to supplant the reborn nation, it had instead transformed into something for more deadly and terrifying than they could ever have imagined.
~
Later that day.
After saying their piece, Julius and Serena reclimbed the palatial steps before retiring to an office.
Both had changed out of their ceremonial robes and were wearing far more traditional clothing.
Julius dressed in a simple tunic, with various other leather accessories such as a coat, and boots.
The two were standing around a marble desk that had a map spread out atop it.
Serena was updating the map further to show the placement of all the cities and towns of Carthage while Julius was busy mapping out paths to interconnect his new realm allowing for greater ease of travel while also allowing him to tour the land and 'upgrade' the region that had officially become his in the system.
That mixed with the other issue of what to call the region now that it had become a province of Romanus.
His kingdom had thus far been renaming regions based of their historical provincial names when ruled under the old empire, but with a twist in most cases.
Like how the Root province of Romanus was Latinium, which was derived from the original Latium though the old home of the Roman Empire was located deep within Visigoth lands at the moment.
Greecia required no change since the lands were not controlled fully yet, and the world already referred to the peninsula by such name when referred to as a whole.
As it stood now his Empire consisted of quite a few provinces;
Latinium (Home to the Eternal City)
Lunalia (Former South Lunan)
Brigantia (Former Kingdom of Bridget)
Rosaria (Former Kingdom of Roserum)
Parthia (Former Parthia Commonwealth)
Greecia (Partial Vassilization)
So the question now was what name should the new Carthaginian province that would also include the now former kingdom of ramie be referred to as?
Historically Rome referred to the former Carthaginian lands simply as Africa, which was also the name given to an entire continent back on Earth, but given that two other African based civilization models existed in this world but located further to the east Julius shook the idea of bringing the name to this world as well.
Should he just keep it simple?
And go with Carthago... it literally means Carthage after all which would hold true to his promise of making sure their nations name would remain for history to remember.
