Chapter 278: 275 - Inside The Carriage
As the Royal carriage carried on down the roads of Carthage, as much as Julius wanted to also perform infrastructure upgrades it was as of yet not his territory at least not until the public acknowledge him as their leader of that the military became loyal to him, there were select areas where his legionaires were present but to say that they had control over the area would be false.
The true control was in the hands of the Liberation Army.
When first setting off from the border the conversation was light.
As the two simply did a light casual talk about how each others lives were, then after the pleasentries were out of the way the real discussions began.
"So... it's over then?"
Serena asked the question about the war still lingering in her mind.
"Yes, the Ramie Kingdom has already been annexed into the Romanus Kingdom, however technically speaking the restored state of Carthage could be said to still be in a state of war with the Principality since they did and still do occupy lands that formerly were Carthaginian before the two nations invaded in the wake of the civil ware breaking out."
Julius's response was tactical, while the restored nation could not be said the have been the same one as before, but the mere fact that their lands were in the hands of another would otherwise indicate a state of hostilities exist between the two.
"Actually, on that front there are some envoy's from the principality who are presently staying within the capital I've put off meeting with them until you were present since they'll probably ask me for something that I've already promised to give to you."
Leaning back on what he'd heard.
"So, they made their move quickly, probably wanting to offer up humanitarian aid in exchange for relinquishing control over the already occupied territories, but they also must've heard about your allies in this new war, and if their scouts are good enough they might already be aware of the fall of Ramie."
"Quite right, So if we manage to conduct the ceremony first, they'll be dealing with the Romanus Empire rather than the Carthaginian Kingdom, the latter they could see as being weak and ready to be taken advantage of, but against your empire, they can do not much more than cower in fear, or even better yet prostrate themselves before your overwhelming might."
"Ha, well worst case it just means we will still be in a state of war and be required to redirect some of the legions that are awaiting coming across the border to take up new fortified posts here in Carthage to instead invade the principality instead to punish them for their arrogance."
"Tee hee, well if it comes to that I'm sure there are plenty in Carthage who are looking to settle the score with those religious zealots as well."
...
...
...
The hours rolled by and finally all but one conversation topic had been touched upon, the one Serena had been dancing around the whole time.
"Julius... Any news... about her?"
Haaaaaa.
Hearing the question caused his mind to lurch just a little bit.
He knew the question was just out of concern, Serena and Yuri had become like sisters over the last year and numerous conflicts.
Occasionally fighting with one another in a sibling rivalry type deal, but always respecting and honoring the other.
"The last news we received stated that she'd been taken over the border into Francia, but I haven't received another update since I left the palace to begin my tour so there is a chance that their will be additional new waiting for us when we reach the capital."
"I see, so we at least know where she is then?"
"To an extent but, still... we failed to regain her before her captors could get her across the border and our presence within Francia is woefully lacking so even if the leaves follow the captors across the border, their chances are even lower of successfully mounting a rescue."
"Tch that bastard prince, if it indeed he who has her, I'll be ready to sail with the entire grand fleet to raze the entirety of Francia coasts into ruin!"
"Ha ha, it'll be a race then with me an my legions as we reduce the entire landscape into a barren wasteland as well."
The conversation topic was getting darker and more malicious.
Across the continent, the prince in question who was being spoken about felt a chilling sensation raking up and down his spine as if an assassin over even the very spectre of death was running their cold iron back and forth hauntingly as if their death could be delivered at any moment.
A few times Julius pulled up his world map to get a quick update of the overall situation, his core territory of Romanus was practically perfect, however the newer provinces mainly, Lunan, and Parthia were seeing minor trouble in the form of spies and 'bandits' that had gotten across the border but using the system he was quick to alert the garrisons and set about the capture of these rogue elements to eliminate them.
On top of that something rather new appeared on the screen.
While he'd been away from his capital for a few weeks now on this tour, it was clear that the Greecian war had come to a complete close as he watched his legion forces making their way home.
But the really shocking thing was that while Sparta was showing itself as an ally, Argosia, Macedon, and Arcadia were showing themselves to be Vassal states.
That part wasn't shocking what was, was the fact that the coloring of their vassalage indicated they were vassals of Romanus not Sparta...
Had the Spartans refused to take the role as the governors or had something else happened and was waiting for him back at the Palace in the Eternal city?
Athenia was the only territory not listed as a vassal nor a conquered territory, beyond that he had no news about it.
At least the situation in Greecia seemed to be stable since the overall loyalty of the vassal nations was rather high, but it came at a cost since a single base legion was required to remain behind to maintain control, but still the bulk of the forces were returning, some ever had broken off as an attache probably joining the Germanic mercenaries heading off to their own warfront against the Arcadians.
