Chapter 21: Vast World
Chapter 21: Vast World
.....
Alfonso's POV
Standing on a balcony alone, I breathed fresh air as the sound of medieval music coming downstairs echoed. Making a rhythm with nature's lullaby, conducting in melodic chirps.
My eyes then drifted toward the moonlight. With a gaze of comfort, I let out a long sigh. I'm alone on this balcony since being in a crowded location stresses me out.
Especially because this body hates commoners so much that I'm so conscious of them. I can't even touch the food they prepared on the table out of disgust.
Mary who is beside the door of this balcony just handed me some food and some that we bought while traveling. Well, I also get hungry... But since I get irritated and disgusted by the food they prepared, I have no choice but to eat what only Mary touched.
It might be lonely but it's better to be alone anyway than to party. This is no different from what I did in my past life. I get drained socializing with people, even though I don't have this kind of anxiety that came from Alfonso. I would and will still try to be alone when there's some gathering or event.
I'm either on a balcony or wandering the garden. Wherever it is that's peaceful. This kind of silence is what makes my head calm, add that up with some medieval music downstairs and the moonlight glimmering here. Who wouldn't feel relaxed?
I then chuckled inwardly, despite my cold gaze that remained.
Soon, however, my haven was disrupted when I suddenly heard the door of the balcony that Mary is guarding, open.
A footstep that was slowly approaching me then followed. Only did it halt when I started speculating who it could be.
It was either Valentina or among the people I met since some commoner will not make Mary allow them to meet me.
"Uhm..." A familiar female voice sounded. After I heard her voice, I quickly knew that It was 'Valentina'. Though, I'm confused as to why she is here right now. Since we have already broken our engagement, I thought that she will not have any business with me anymore. All I need to do now is talk to my father about the current matter.
So in response, I slowly opened my mouth and spoke, "What is it?" while I continued to stare at the moon.
"..."
However, Valentina didn't immediately respond, only when the silence was prolonged did she finally speak.
"I have a question..."
"Go on." I calmly followed.
"Why did you take such a big risk? even though you won't benefit from it in any way?"
When I heard her, I grew silent and thought long and hard about what I had done, only to slowly open my mouth and speak once more.
"Why you say?
simply because I believed it to be morally appropriate."
Upon responding, a short break of silence followed again.
"Aren't you concerned that your loved ones will be in mourning for you? Are you not sorry that if you pass away...
They will weep for you?"
Valentina asked.
However, as soon as I heard her. I imagined my mother mourning for me in my past life. But I soon shrugged those thoughts away as I remembered that I'm currently in this world now.
Honestly, her question doesn't matter to me because no one would even care if Alfonso died, probably... No—Except for Mary and his father.
Though, I still answered her.
"Yes... That would be painful. But I did it because I simply believed that I should do it."
I then turned and looked Valentina in the eyes with an indifferent gaze.
"I did it because I will rather die than step on what I believe in.
I did it because I think it was the right thing.
If my loved ones cannot understand that. Then they are simply, selfish. They should rather be happy and respect what I chose." I said as I pondered inside. ‹I also did it so that I can thoroughly stop the reason why Valentina hated Alfonso in the first place. I cannot neglect these things can we?›
After that. I then turned silent as I closed my crimson eyes and recalled who is Valentina in the game. I figured out why she is asking me these kinds of questions and that's because she is worried about her father...
"Valentina"
Only after I uttered her name, I opened my eyes.
"You should learn how to live for yourself. Or you'll regret it for the rest of your life.
It's okay to live for what you believe in, but always have something to back it up. Or else, the world will trample you. Like how I almost died."
At that moment, the stomps of my shoes echoed as I passed over her, no longer wanting to continue talking. I decided to leave her.
Shortly I opened the door and was immediately greeted by Mary, who has moved aside.
I then slowly succumbed to the darkness while the moonlight's last glimmers slipped from my sight. The hollow footstep of my shoes then filled the area as Mary followed me behind.
‹I should make a list of the things I must keep in mind in this world. and to stop an unforeseen incident from occurring again. › I silently pondered as I recalled just how I almost died.

Valentina's Side
Meanwhile, the girl who watched Alfonso slowly walk away, felt her heart thump!
|"I did it because I will rather die than step on what I believe in. I did it because I think it was the right thing. If my loved ones cannot understand that. Then they are simply, selfish. They should rather be happy and respect what I chose."|
She couldn't shrug it off why but after Alfonso spoke of those words, it deeply resonated through her.
She finally had answers to her questions.
However, when he recalled how handsome he suddenly looked. Valentina couldn't help but blush.
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
She didn't notice it, but Alfonso was getting more handsome in her eyes. Especially when she talked to him just a while ago, her heart just couldn't stop but skip a beat.
But she soon calmed herself down as she stared at the beautiful moon. After this interaction, Valentina couldn't help but start to admire Alfonso.
However, when she recalled that they have broken their engagement, she felt a thorn piercing through her heart. Followed by a bitter and sour taste surging through her mouth.
"..."
She could only remain silent at this moment. She then recalled how even though Alfonso just woke up and almost died from his injury he immediately mentioned the two of them if they were okay, which made her heart clench in response.
‹Did I perhaps judged him too harshly? When did I become blind that I didn't see this side of him?› She pondered. Well, Alfonso always had this indifferent look so she speculated that was one of the reasons.
Those thoughts of her were then disrupted when Christine who was looking for her after she tried to find Alfonso suddenly appeared behind her.
But after Christine saw how Valentina is enjoying the view. She decided that the two of them stay for a little longer and watch the glimmering light of the moon before they go back.

Alfonso's POV
It didn't take too long before morning came, we immediately departed at that moment but surprisingly, as we departed. Valentina said her last words to me.
"Be careful," It was just so out of nowhere that it left me speechless. However, I simply nodded in response and immediately disregarded her words.
So in response, I let out a sincere thank you before we strode our way.
Now I'm just sitting in my carriage again as I try to cover and strengthen my insides using mana. For these past few days, while travelling, I didn't waste any precious time to improve myself and get stronger.
Though, it took some time and some damage inside me before I could finally control the mana inside me with ease.
But now, I can finally say that it wouldn't take long before we could reach our territory that'll be able to master the control of my mana and even completely strengthen my inside.
Meanwhile, Mary who is in front of me always observed me.
I was forced to act like nothing was going on since it'll only spill some unnecessary troubles and worries. Those past few days were horrendous because of how painful it is to feel your fucking organs get damaged, luckily the system is here to help and heal me using points.
I'm able to also hide this pain I've been feeling because of Alfonso's perfectionism. This body just renders me speechless sometimes. Even though the pain I was feeling was horrible, the anxiety I feel or annoyance was much stronger, just having the thought of me being weak in front of someone. Or even looking so pitiful makes me upset.
Well... Compared to what happened in the bestial forest, the pain of my organs twisting was much bearable. That's why I was able to remain my sophisticated look. I mean who wouldn't grasp for air when all of your bones are broken? It's already a feat that I didn't cry.
With such thoughts in mind. Time quickly passed without me noticing, but along the way. I have entirely fortified my insides with mana now that I have mastered its control.
To explain how the mana strengthens my insides. To start, you have to absorb the mana around you that came from your environment. After you are done with that, you also need to control your own mana, should be in rhythm with the manas you've absorbed and place them at the centre of your chest.
Once you have established this foundation, you'll have to spread them all out at this moment. Each muscle and part of the body has a passage for the mana. One mistake, and you'll fucking tear your muscles inside or even damage the organs.
I was harmed as a result of that. It resembles cultivation like chines stories. The system and the fact that I attempted to cover my body with mana were the only things that allowed me to figure this out. As I previously mentioned, I attempted to employ Goku's method of obtaining energy or mana from the surroundings.
Though, I'd say, while I was doing this. Mary was able to notice it. She even told me that I should just do it when we arrive home since I'll only get distracted in the process or even harm myself. However, I disregarded her words and continued. Leaving her with no choice but to just quietly watch me cultivate and process my mana. She was actually still trying to stop me but after she saw that I'm proceeding smoothly. She disregarded it. She also didn't disturb me since she knows it can affect me or even harm me as a result of getting distracted.
That also explains our slow travel since Mary ordered the knights to carefully proceed. But the knights utilized some magic in response to keep the speed of our travel so I don't experience any jolts as we move.

Another day and hour passed in a blink of an eye. The mansion of a house I have has finally emerged in front of my eyes. I became increasingly aware of how big our house is with each passing second.
It didn't take long before my carriage halted in front of our destination. However, as I stepped outside, I was quickly greeted by a huge figure of a man. It was no other but my father—Antelmo, however, there was an unfamiliar little figure beside him.
I then drifted my eyes toward her, as I listed down her appearance inside my mind.
Her age seemed to look like me, her hair is white combined with her purple eyes and skin pale as snow. Her breast seemed to just start to blossom. Whilst her attire was that of a white dress which could not hide but display her curvy figure.
Overall, she is one hell of a fucking beauty.
Only then did I remember that Antelmo mentioned that I'll have a sister. Which also, at the same time made me recall that Alfonso indeed had a step-sister.
Well, considering her looks, I have long figured that out. She is no other but...
'‹Alice, Alfonso's step sister'›
