Chapter 1450: Resealing the Shadow Unown
After learning about the origins of Mew and the Shadow Unown, Yuga said solemnly, "Then if we want to release Zenith Academy from this spatial rift, we have no choice but to deal with Mew and the Unown!"
Mr. Kaga shook his head and said, "Mew and the Unown's power affects this entire space. They can hide at any time. Dealing with them is easier said than done!"
If they weren't careful, Mew and the Unown might destroy this space entirely—if that happened, the whole Zenith Academy would cease to exist.
At that moment, Yuga suddenly thought of something: "Can we find Magearna and Fontaine? Maybe they have a way to locate Mew and the Unown!"
Speaking of Fontaine, Kaga's eyes lit up: "Yes, yes, yes! Let's go find my older brother first!"
"Mr. Kaga, do you have any clue where Nr. Fontaine might be?" Yuga asked.
Mr. Kaga pondered for a moment, then slapped his forehead and said, "That's right! I think I know where my brother might be. Come with me!"
With that, he rushed off quickly in one direction.
At this time, Chimecho slowly descended from the air. The Unown had already returned to its body, but it looked even more exhausted than before.
Yuga gently held it in his arms and said softly, "Chimecho, you've worked hard. Take a good rest."
"Chimecho~"
Chimecho was indeed extremely tired. It nodded at Yuga twice, then immediately fell asleep.
The group followed Mr. Kaga deep into Zenith Academy, arriving at a courtyard. Along the way, pink crystals still covered everything, and within the crystals were the frozen teachers and students of the academy.
In the courtyard, sure enough, Yuga and the others saw Mr. Fontaine and Magearna, but they too were frozen inside the crystals.
Aside from Mr. Fontaine and Magearna, Mr. Kaga also saw other clanspeople and their Pokémon in the courtyard, including Teacher Chiffon, whom Yuga recognized. Without exception, all of them were frozen. Some of the Pokémon were even still posed mid-battle.
"Just as I thought!" Mr. Kaga said sadly. "This is the place where Mew was sealed. When Mew emerged, my brother and the others surely tried to stop it, so I figured they would be here!"
"How can we break these crystals?" Mr. Ross asked.
Yes—how could they break the crystals?
These crystals were incredibly tough. Even when Latias and Latios were fighting and their moves struck the crystals, they didn't leave even a scratch—let alone actually break them.
Unable to think of a solution, Yuga casually asked the system, "System, do you know how to deal with these crystals?"
[ Host, since that Magearna was once a key to Mew's seal, you might want to try waking it up first! ]
Waking up Magearna first? Yuga looked at the Magearna inside the crystal and thought doubtfully—how to wake it? Should he use Fairy Aura again?
Yuga wanted to ask more, but the system had suddenly gone silent, as if it had crashed. No response at all. He could only give up.
Forget it—whatever happens, I'll try it first! With that in mind, Yuga released Florges and said to her, "Florges, use Fairy Aura and see if you can wake Magearna."
Florges nodded, walked over to Magearna, and placed her hand over its chest through the crystal, then activated Fairy Aura.
Pink energy enveloped both Florges and Magearna, but for a long time there was no reaction from the Magearna inside the crystal.
Just when Yuga thought the method wouldn't work, Mr. Kaga suddenly exclaimed, "Look! Isn't Magearna's chest glowing?!"
Yuga and the others fixed their eyes on it, and sure enough, Magearna's chest was emitting a faint glow. It must have been too subtle earlier for them to notice.
And the spot on Magearna's chest was exactly where its Soul-Heart was located!
Yuga exclaimed in delight, "Florges, keep going!"
"Florges~"
Florges responded and increased the power of her Fairy Aura.
As time went on, the light radiating from the Soul-Heart grew stronger and stronger. After half an hour, a buzzing sound rang out, and Magearna burst into brilliant light. The crystal that encased its body began to melt away like ice under the sun.
Once freed, Magearna looked around in confusion, but when it saw Kaga, its face lit up with joy.
"That's great, Magearna!"
Mr. Kaga stepped forward excitedly, holding Magearna's hand.
Upon learning that it was once again Yuga who had helped, Magearna solemnly expressed its gratitude to him.
Yuga waved his hand and said, "Let's focus on dealing with Mew for now. Magearna, can you remove these crystals?"
Magearna nodded to indicate it could, but its power was limited. It wouldn't be able to remove all the crystals—otherwise, it wouldn't have been sealed in crystal in the first place.
"Then let's rescue my brother first. Maybe he'll have a way to deal with Mew!" Mr. Kaga said.
"What Mr. Kaga says makes sense. Let's save Mr. Fontaine first!" Yuga nodded in agreement.
Upon hearing this, Magearna nodded, but before acting, it whispered something to Florges.
It turned out that Magearna's power alone wasn't enough to break the crystals. It also needed Florges to use Fairy Aura to help activate the hidden power within its Soul-Heart.
This Magearna from Zenith Academy was originally specially created by Masato, a friend of Nikola, to suppress Mew's seal. Because of Masato's modifications, it possessed a unique power in its Soul-Heart different from other Magearna.
With Florges' help, after half an hour, Magearna did indeed break the crystal sealing Mr. Fontaine. Other members of the Fairy Remnants in the courtyard were also rescued. Surviving such a disaster, everyone collapsed into each other's arms, sobbing in relief.
They had come so close to eternal slumber inside the crystal!
"Mr. Shimizu, we really owe it all to you this time!" Fontaine said gratefully. If Yuga hadn't arrived in time, the Fairy Remnants might have truly faced extinction.
Yuga shook his head and replied, "Ayamu is here too. Of course, I couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
"By the way, Teacher Chiffon, do you know where Ayamu is?" Yuga turned to ask Teacher Chiffon.
Teacher Chiffon replied, "She should be in the teaching building!"
Hearing this, Yuga's expression turned grim. The teaching building was one of the main areas frozen in crystal. It had turned into a crystal castle, and even Magearna couldn't remove the seal there.
Seeing Yuga's expression, Fontaine said apologetically, "It's our fault. We lacked the strength to protect the students and ended up dragging them into this!"
The academy did bear some responsibility in this, but seeing how sincerely Mr. Fontaine apologized, Yuga didn't want to hold onto his anger. He softened his expression and asked, "Mr. Fontaine, do you have any way to deal with Mew and those Unown?"
Fontaine replied, "We don't have a method for Mew, but we do have a way to deal with the Unown!"
Yuga's face lit up with joy. "Really?"
The reason Mew was so difficult to handle had a lot to do with the presence of the Unown. If the Unown could be taken care of, dealing with Mew would become much easier.
Fontaine nodded and explained, "Those Unown came from the Arche Valley. Back when the people from the Arche Valley sealed Mew, they said that if the Unown ever became a threat one day, they left something behind that could be used against them!"
The Arche Valley was a very mysterious place, and Yuga didn't know much about it. However, since those people had left behind a contingency, it was bound to be useful.
Led by Fontaine, Yuga and the others arrived at a corner of Zenith Academy, where they dug out a uniquely-shaped ceramic jar from under the roots of a massive tree.
The ceramic jar was about half a person's height, entirely grayish-brown in color, but it was painted with an image of the God of Creation, Arceus. Aside from that, there were many black mysterious runes on it.
"This thing can deal with the Unown?" Yuga asked in disbelief.
"That's right," Fontaine nodded in confirmation.
After Fontaine gave a thorough explanation, Yuga learned that the Arche Valley was actually a branch of the ancient race, and moreover, it was the most well-preserved surviving branch of the Transcendence Clan to date. The god they worshipped was none other than Arceus.
Upon hearing the name "Transcendence Clan," Yuga couldn't help but think of the special power possessed by the Temple Clan—the Power of Transcendence. Could there be a connection between the two?
"How do we use this?" Yuga asked.
Fontaine explained, "We need eighteen Pokémon of different types to simultaneously activate moves in order to initiate it. Furthermore, each of the eighteen Pokémon must be no lower than the Elite level."
Yuga exclaimed, "That complicated?!"
Fontaine also looked troubled and nodded solemnly.
Yuga thought for a moment. For Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass, Psychic, Dark, and Fairy types, he could assign Deerling, Breloom, Dragonite, Roserade, Torterra, Vivillon, Gengar, Kartana, Charizard, Lapras, Bellossom, Chimecho, Absol, and Florges respectively. That meant he only lacked Pokémon of Ice, Dragon, Rock, and Electric types.
Actually, Yuga did have an Abomasnow for Ice and a Salamence for Dragon, but both of their levels were slightly below Elite level and thus wouldn't be effective.
After Yuga shared his concern with Fontaine, he patted his chest and assured him, "Leave the remaining four Pokémon to us!"
Gathering eighteen different Elite evel Pokémon would normally be difficult even for the Fairy Remnants. But now that Yuga had already contributed the bulk of them, coming up with just the remaining four was still within their capabilities.
After a round of discussion, the Fairy Remnants quickly gathered the other four required Pokémon: an Alolan Ninetales for Ice, a Noivern for Dragon, a Carbink for Rock, and a Dedenne for Electric.
In truth, the Fairy Remnants hadn't actually found a Dragon-type Pokémon at the Elite level, because their clan specialized in nurturing Fairy-type Pokémon and hardly had any Dragon types at all.
Fortunately, Mr. Ross had a Noivern, which happened to solve the problem.
If they really hadn't been able to find a Dragon-type Pokémon, Yuga would have had no choice but to remove his Dragonite from its position as the Flying-type representative and find another Flying-type Pokémon to take its place.
Once everything was ready, Yuga and the others moved the ceramic jar to an open area.
Yuga said to the eighteen Pokémon, "In a moment, I will give the order. You must all launch your moves at this jar at the same time. Remember to get the timing exactly right—neither too early nor too late!"
The Pokémon all understood the gravity of the situation and nodded seriously in response.
After confirming they were on the same page, Yuga stepped back and let the eighteen Pokémon form a circle around the jar. He then asked, "Is everyone ready?"
"Wuuu~"
…The Pokémon all nodded in unison…
"Then… One, two, three, fire!"
At Yuga's command, the eighteen Pokémon simultaneously launched Hyper Beam, Focus Blast, Hurricane, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, Signal Beam, Shadow Ball, Sacred Sword, Flamethrower, Hydro Cannon, Energy Ball, Psychic, Dark Pulse, Moonblast, Ice Beam, Dragon Pulse, Power Gem, and Discharge—eighteen different moves—toward the ceramic jar.
In an instant, the multicolored barrage of moves engulfed the jar completely. Just as Yuga began to worry that the jar might shatter, the black runes on its surface suddenly began to move, swimming all over the jar like little tadpoles.
Then, all the moves were absorbed by those swimming tadpole-like runes and pulled into the jar. A dazzling blue beam of light burst from the mouth of the jar, shooting straight into the sky!
Boom!
As the blue light ascended into the sky, the spatial rift began to tremble slightly. That funnel-shaped vortex reappeared, and the Shadow Unown, in a panic, began to fall out of the vortex, only to be sucked into the blue light.
"It actually worked!" Yuga exclaimed in surprise.
But Yuga hadn't even been happy for a few seconds before Mew appeared. There was no way it would let the Unown be sealed away, so it began to intervene.
Seeing this, Yuga shouted to Latias and Latios, "Stop Mew!"
"Latias~"
"Latios~"
Latias and Latios responded and soared swiftly into the sky to attack Mew. Without the help of the Shadow Unown, Mew could no longer handle the twins as easily as before.
However, the Shadow Unown weren't the type to just sit there and let themselves be sealed. Seeing their comrades fall one by one into the blue light and get sealed into the jar, they went berserk and launched a counterattack on the beam of light.
For a moment, the blue beam began to tremble violently, as if it could collapse at any second, leaving Yuga and the others extremely anxious.
At that moment, from within the group of eighteen Pokémon, Chimecho suddenly soared into the sky. The Unown within its body surged forth again. They seemed to be dead set on fighting the Shadow Unown and combined themselves into a tightly woven net that dropped down like a shroud upon the Shadow Unown.
Weakened by the suppressive power of the blue light, the Shadow Unown no longer had their previous strength and were actually caught entirely by the net, pulled straight toward the ceramic jar.
Mew, not far away, wanted to stop it, but was entangled by Latias and Latios and couldn't break free for the time being.
What Yuga and the others in the spatial rift didn't know was that as more and more Shadow Unown were sealed into the jar, the distorted spatial rift gradually began to return to the Pokémon world, and even a corner of Zenith Academy had started to reappear in the real world.
