Chapter 15: Chapter 15 The Stench of Blood Amidst the Smoke and Fire
"Almost there, almost there, a new book is going to be available real soon."
"This time, I won't shy away from my responsibilities as a man, I'll update in a couple of days! Please, trust me one last time, I beg you!"
Chen Yun was explaining.
The seemingly sincere words did not instill the slightest bit of trust in the editor, Meteor.
Only after hard bargaining for two days to at least come up with an outline for Meteor did Chen Yun manage to give the editor a passable response.
He turned off the handheld short video app on his phone.
Chen Yun crawled out of bed, opened the writer's assistant app, and looked at the outline that had only a title written before the New Year. To this day, it still only had that title.
Even the quotation marks around the title were incomplete—the right half was missing because he hadn't even gotten around to adding it.
He checked the document's last edited time, which was several days before the New Year.
He helplessly cupped his forehead.
At this moment, Chen Yun's heart was surprisingly free from urgency.
Writing initially started as a hobby, and after going full-time, it became a means to earn a living.
But now, his hobby had become exploring and exercising himself, yearning after a higher level of existence that seemed out of reach for most of humanity.
He still had enough savings to last a while.
Writing had seemingly lost its original sense of urgency.
But after some thought,
Considering that living off his savings was definitely not an option, Chen Yun still added an item to his short-term plan.
And so, his new short-term plan became:
[Short-term plan:]
[1: Run at 7 a.m.]
[2: Leisure and entertainment at 8 a.m.]
[3: Explore personal changes at 1 p.m. and verify a series of related conjectures. (Rest and enjoy leisure time when there are no conjectures to test.)]
[4: Intensive training at 9 p.m. (Test limit of physical endurance after training.)]
[5: Record daily changes and summaries at 11:30 p.m.]
[6: After completing the summary at midnight, begin training the sense of smell.]
[7: Stop training the sense of smell after 4 a.m. and start working on online writing.]
[8: To be added]
Incorporating online writing into the short-term plan,
He looked over it and felt there were no issues.
Chen Yun checked the current time.
It was March 3rd, 9:45 in the morning.
"It seems it's almost time for the meal I promised to treat Bai Shi to."
Chen Yun reflected for a moment.
He confirmed that when he asked Bai Shi for sleeping pills on March 1st, they had indeed agreed to have a meal today at 11 a.m.
The reason for the meal was twofold.
First, Chen Yun had tested that he could temporarily eat food and then voluntarily induce vomiting shortly afterward.
Going out to eat wouldn't expose his current habit of not eating.
Second, treating to a meal was a tacit understanding between him and Bai Shi.
The capable Little Dingdang, Bai Shi, would always be compensated with a meal by Chen Yun whenever he helped out.
It's just that in other respects, Chen Yun really had nothing else to offer in return.
After all, having been to Bai's house many times, he had seen more than once all kinds of items that looked like art pieces and antiques.
Though he didn't recognize these objects,
Bai Shi once gave him several dinar coins from the Abbask Dynasty. Chen Yun might not appreciate their historical value, but he could still discern that they were indeed gold.
By extension,
The other art pieces and cultural relics in Bai's house might also be genuine.
That was why Chen Yun had always suspected that Bai Shi was someone with an exciting past.
And that was why he opted to treat Bai Shi to a meal rather than offer money as compensation.
After all, this guy, who seemed to have washed his hands of past dealings and was idle all day,
Really didn't lack money.
But he sure did love to eat.
Now, with just over an hour left until 11 a.m., Chen Yun hadn't planned today's itinerary yet.
He had been living a more fulfilling life for the past two days according to the short-term plan and hadn't been idle enough to think beyond that.
Now was a good time to plan.
Thinking this, Chen Yun opened the map service and restaurant review apps to see if there were any new trendy restaurants nearby.
Bai Shi was fastidious about his taste, always nursing red wine from famous vineyards all over the world; satisfying him was not an easy task.
But rather than aiming for flavor,
Choosing a trendy restaurant that had gone viral overnight for various reasons could satisfy Bai Shi on an emotional level.
After all, Bai Shi enjoyed making continuous rants, listing all the shortcomings of a trendy restaurant and lambasting it for hours on end.
It was one of his pleasures.
Chen Yun could clearly remember these events, even retrieving the very words Bai Shi used to curse out a trendy restaurant from his memories of their visit a few months earlier.
After casually browsing,
Chen Yun found a few trendy restaurants that seemed to have quite the reputation.
He compared the distances and made a rough decision about which one to visit.
Decision made,
Chen Yun went straight out the door and knocked on the neighboring room.
Before long,
Bai Shi opened the door and stepped out.
He was holding teaching materials in his left hand and a pen in his right.
Chen Yun's sharp hearing detected
The sound of a video call coming from Bai Shi's computer.
Piecing together snippets of conversation, he guessed that
Bai Shi seemed to have suddenly taken up an online tutoring job?
This would explain why Bai Shi had recently bulk-bought so many teaching materials with him.
While Chen Yun was skeptical about Bai Shi taking up legitimate work, he still didn't pry too much.
