Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Just Another Tuesday for Kitagawa Gen
"This kid…"
The Fourth Raikage swallowed hard. Even though the two had taken their battle far off into the distance, he had still chased after them.
He wanted to see for himself what this brat was all about—and to figure out some of the chaos swirling in his mind.
But the moment he arrived, he saw Kitagawa Gen ruthlessly pummeling that mysterious organization's guy.
Especially that flickering, almost teleporting figure—it made his mind reel.
"Namikaze Minato..."
He still couldn't forget that man—the one who had taken on both of them alone and left them dazed and disoriented.
And now, another one like him had appeared!
But as he stared at Kitagawa Gen's short blade and his white hair, something suddenly came to mind.
"There was a rumor... The Second Hokage created the Flying Thunder God Technique, mastered kenjutsu, and had snow-white hair too?"
There was no time to think it through. Kitagawa Gen's figure flashed forward, and at the same time, a Shadow Clone appeared at his side.
Both raised chakra spheres in their hands—a sight that instantly jogged the Fourth Raikage's memory.
"Rasengan? No… the color's off?"
The two Rasengan in Kitagawa Gen's hands were different—one white, one black.
Before the Raikage could even begin to process what it meant, his body stiffened in that very instant.
"Four seconds."
Silently, without any warning or fanfare, the moment Kitagawa Gen's voice rang out, both Rasengan had already slammed into Pain's body!
"Damn it!"
Pain realized it too—Kitagawa Gen had appeared behind him once again.
But this wasn't the time to think about how it happened. Worse still, he hadn't brought any other bodies with him—he couldn't dodge it now.
With no alternatives left, Nagato could only surge forth with a torrent of chakra to protect himself.
In an instant, a blue aura of chakra burst out around Pain, just as Kitagawa Gen pressed both Rasengan down into him.
[Bzzz—]
An overwhelming force detonated in a frenzy. The night sky was instantly lit up by the sheer radiance of their clash, turning the darkness into something almost like daylight.
Immediately after, a massive mushroom cloud shot skyward, and a raging inferno consumed everything around it.
The ground trembled slightly, and countless cracks spidered outward in every direction.
"Damn it!"
The massive shockwave instantly sent the Fourth Raikage flying, crashing through who knew how many trees before his body finally slammed into a huge boulder.
That stone nearly shattered on impact.
Thankfully, his body was tough enough—even with his chakra sealed, he could still protect himself.
But his expression turned grim as he looked ahead. Now, he was certain of one thing.
"That damn brat definitely left a Flying Thunder God marker on me. No doubt about it..."
Thinking back to their first clash, the way that brat had held back until the last second—striking just when the Raikage thought he had the upper hand—it sent a chill down his spine.
He suddenly recalled something his father once said about a certain Hokage, and a disturbing thought crossed his mind.
"Don't tell me… that brat's planning to kill me?"
The Fourth Raikage wasn't afraid of death. But if he was going to die, it better be in open battle—not from some sneaky ambush.
Whatever the Fourth Raikage was thinking, Kitagawa Gen had no idea. By now, he had already put a good distance between them, his Byakugan fixed steadily on Pain in the distance.
From his viewpoint, Deva Path Pain was lying in a pool of blood. His robes were completely torn apart, and half his body was already gone.
The black rods infused with Yin-Yang Release were scattered all over the place.
"Looks like it's over."
Seeing this, Kitagawa Gen finally let out a sigh of relief.
Taking down one Pain alone—especially with enough intel—wasn't too hard for him.
But if all six had shown up, things would've been a lot trickier.
"Especially Nagato after being reanimated… that guy was something else."
Just thinking about how that man, even after being 'taken over', could still beat down both Naruto and Killer Bee—Kitagawa Gen couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration.
"But for now, I should focus on finding someone."
As he thought, he pulled out a fragment of a black rod—one he'd just extracted from Yahiko's nose.
As for Yahiko's body, he had no intention of taking it. Even if he did, it would only mess with Nagato's head a bit—he'd just build a new one anyway.
Leaving behind a wrecked corpse would be more effective. Let Nagato deal with that mess himself. For now, Kitagawa Gen figured it was time to act on his word. Leaving a lasting impression wouldn't hurt either.
He gripped the black rod tightly, then slowly closed his eyes to begin sensing.
But after just a moment, his expression turned strange.
He looked up at the sky. After a long pause, he muttered to himself.
"Man… they ran fast."
...
Morning sunlight spilled across the land. A new day had begun.
But right now, the villagers of Takigakure wore faces of sheer panic. Last night's events had been way too far beyond anything they could handle.
Takigakure had once been hidden behind a great waterfall, surrounded by lush green mountains and crystal-clear waters.
But after a night of fierce battle, not only was the entrance to the waterfall nearly blocked, everything outside seemed to have changed completely.
Flames still burned across the terrain. The once-flourishing forest had been utterly torn apart. What used to be a peaceful and harmonious scene now looked like a land ravaged by war.
"Last night was terrifying..."
"Yeah... So that's what Konoha shinobi are like. But who were they even fighting?"
"No idea. What worries me most now is—will they come back? I mean, after last night..."
"Don't talk about it. Let's just wait for the elders' decision."
Inside Takigakure, hushed whispers filled the streets as the villagers discussed the events of the previous night. Meanwhile, in one of the rooms, someone entered holding a thick stack of documents.
"Jiraiya-sama, here's all the information you requested. Everything's in here."
"Thanks. I appreciate it."
Jiraiya stood up right away, smiling with a nod, though his expression also carried a trace of apology.
"About last night… we really didn't expect things to turn out like that."
"It's thanks to you all that it didn't end worse."
The elder shook his head, then gave a gentle push to the dark-skinned girl beside him.
"Fū, go thank them. If it weren't for them, you would've been in real danger last night."
"Thank you," Fū said, bowing politely.
But her gaze lingered on Kitagawa Gen—there was something strange in her eyes.
Seeing this, Kitagawa Gen swallowed nervously. Don't tell me she sensed something?
"Then I won't keep you all any longer. I'll take my leave."
The elder didn't want to stay either. With such chaos last night, he had much to handle.
With that, he left with Fū in tow. Only after they were gone did Jiraiya finally let out a sigh.
"Last night... things got way too intense."
"It actually ended better than expected. Consider it a relatively smooth outcome."
Tsunade, who was still treating the Fourth Raikage, shot Jiraiya a glare.
"But they retreated really decisively. And that jutsu—what the hell was that?"
The fighting had indeed been brutal. But once that massive explosion came from Kitagawa Gen's direction, the battle suddenly halted.
When Uchiha Obito forcibly activated Kamui, even Kakashi couldn't stop him. Just like that, the enemy disappeared without a sound.
"That's a secret technique of the Mangekyō Sharingan. Kakashi will fill you in."
Jiraiya glanced down at the stack of documents in his hands and let out a soft sigh.
"What a shame. There's still so much we can't make sense of..."
"We'll figure it out later. For now, let's take a look at that guy's intel. Takigakure called him… Kakuzu, right?"
Kitagawa Gen muttered to himself off to the side. Now that Pain had lost, the battle was over. Dragging it out any further would benefit no one.
"Yeah, let's go over the data first," Jiraiya nodded, then muttered under his breath, "But this is a real headache. Those guys are scattered everywhere—we still have no idea where their base is."
…
Kitagawa Gen pressed his lips together. He had a strong feeling that this attack was most likely because those guys realized Jiraiya was getting too close to uncovering something in the Land of Rain.
So they had no choice but to take special measures to divert his attention. After all, there's no way Nagato would allow Amegakure to be exposed this early.
'Well, whatever. Doesn't matter now. I've got more than enough out of this anyway.'
Walking toward the window, Kitagawa Gen glanced down and spotted Fū following the old man as they left. A faint smile curved on his lips.
[Side Quest Completed: We're All Just Trying to Survive]
[Reward Obtained: Chakra of the Seven-Tails]
Seeing the message appear on his interface, Kitagawa Gen nodded in satisfaction.
Even though things were unexpectedly interrupted by that lunatic Uchiha Obito, in the end, he still got what he wanted.
It was a pity, though, that he couldn't obtain the chakra of a wild Tailed Beast to experiment with.
'But this is probably safer anyway, considering…'
Just thinking about the way Fū looked at him earlier made Kitagawa Gen wonder if she'd noticed something last night.
Luckily, they were just about done reviewing the intel. They'd be leaving soon—and Kitagawa Gen was itching to go.
Because—
'My eyes are reacting again!'
Kitagawa Gen wasn't sure if it was due to the intense battle or the system's reward of the Seven-Tails' chakra.
But he could clearly feel a strange fluctuation inside his eyes—one that resembled the stirring of new life, just before it was born.
The sensation was like a fetal movement.
'Are my eyes… evolving?'
He lifted his head, eyes gazing up at the sky. He had no idea what form this newly forming power might take—
Or even what path it would follow. But if he had a choice, he hoped it would be those Tenseigan from the Moon.
However, his expression soon turned strange.
'Wait a minute… I remember Tenseigan come in three colors: blue, gold, and purple. If I really awaken Tenseigan, which one will mine be?"
While Kitagawa Gen stood there fantasizing about the future, Tsunade had just finished treating the Fourth Raikage.
"Seriously… always ends up being me doing the cleanup. What a pain in the ass."
"Hmph."
The Fourth Raikage let out a cold snort, but said nothing. It was Jiraiya, rubbing his temples, who suddenly spoke up.
"Let's just release him. Once we finish reviewing this intel, we're heading back to Konoha. What—are we going to drag him back with us?"
"Hmm… I guess that makes sense."
Tsunade frowned slightly. Releasing him was a hassle, but so was hauling him back. Since Jiraiya had made the call, she didn't argue.
"You're letting me go? Here in Takigakure?"
But when the Fourth Raikage heard this, he froze. Then his expression changed drastically.
"No! Don't! I'll go with you—back to Konoha!"
"…"
