I'm Aquaman in Marvel

Chapter 18: A Reckless Flight and a Shocking Confession

The following day, Arthur found himself once more in the bustling basement workshop of Tony's sprawling villa. He watched Tony, who was meticulously adjusting parts on a familiar red armored suit held by a mechanical arm. "Are you really going to go out there by yourself, just like that?" Arthur asked, a hint of concern in his voice as he gestured toward the gleaming armor.

"I can handle it on my own, don't you worry your head about a thing," Tony replied confidently, already donning his battle armor. He glanced at Arthur, a quick smirk on his face, before activating the suit's thrusters. The hum of the engine filled the room for a moment, then he shot upwards, a blur of red, and vanished in an instant.

"Okay then," Arthur mumbled, looking helplessly in the direction Tony had flown. Even with his trident, his own flight speed wasn't quite a match for Tony's new, powerful suit. And Tony shouldn't be in any real danger this time, Arthur reasoned, letting out a dismissive sigh. Forget it, I'll just let him handle it.

The next morning, Arthur was settled comfortably on the sofa, sipping his coffee, as the news played softly on the large television screen. On screen, Tony's good friend, Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes, was broadcasting a live press conference.

"An F-22 Raptor experienced an unfortunate crash during yesterday's military exercise," Rhodey was explaining to the gathered reporters, his voice calm and official. "Fortunately, there were no casualties..." Just as he spoke, a flash of red streaked through the sky outside, and a familiar figure plummeted gracefully from above, landing with a light thud just beyond the villa's open doors.

"Finished already?" Arthur called out, without even bothering to turn his head. He recognized the distinct sound of the suit's landing.

"Perfect execution!" Tony declared, a boastful grin evident in his voice as he strode into the living room, still clad in his impressive armor.

Arthur simply pointed a finger at the television screen, where Rhodey was still delivering his official, carefully worded statement about the "crash." "Is that what you call 'perfect execution'?" he asked, an eyebrow raised in amused skepticism.

Tony waved a dismissive hand. "...Let's not get bogged down in the minor details, shall we?"

Later, back in Tony's chaotic but brilliant workshop, Tony stood on a mechanical platform, surrounded by six frantic robotic arms. They were attempting to help him remove his armor, but their coordination was far from perfect, resulting in a comical struggle as they tugged and prodded, unable to detach the suit. Arthur stood to the side, arms folded across his chest, watching this now-famous scene unfold with undisguised amusement.

"I promise you, I designed it to be fully removable," Tony insisted, grunting with effort as the mechanical arms wrestled with him. "It's just the first time, you know! And hey, be gentle with that! You're going to scratch the paintwork!"

Jarvis, the ever-calm AI, interjected smoothly, "Please do not move, sir. Your stability is compromised."

"Can you stop enjoying the spectacle and actually come over here to help?" Tony demanded, glaring angrily at Arthur, who was clearly enjoying his predicament far too much.

Arthur chuckled, then retrieved an electric drill. Working alongside the bumbling mechanical arms, he efficiently helped Tony remove the various screws securing the armor, one by tedious one.

"What on earth is going on in here?" Pepper Potts's voice suddenly chimed from behind them, filled with surprise and a hint of alarm.

"Oh, Pepper, hey," Tony said helplessly, a sheepish look on his face. "It's fine. Really. You've certainly seen worse scenes than this, I promise."

Pepper's eyes widened as she looked at the battle-damaged armor. "Are these… bullet holes?" she asked, her voice laced with disbelief and growing concern.

Tony looked at Pepper, who had appeared unexpectedly, and found himself at a complete loss for how to explain the entire situation.

Arthur, seeing his hesitation, interjected smoothly. "Tell her, Tony. Seriously. She's the person you trust the most, isn't she? I think she'll support you, no matter what crazy thing you've gotten into this time."

Taking Arthur's advice, Tony then began to confess everything to Pepper: his harrowing kidnapping experience in Afghanistan, the forced creation of his astonishing new armor, and the daring actions he had just undertaken in Gulmira. He laid it all out for her, seeking her understanding and acceptance.

Inside Tony's chaotic but brilliant lab, after his deeply personal confession to Pepper, Tony turned to Arthur. "Can you do something else for me?" he asked, his tone serious and direct.

"Name it," Arthur replied, ready for a task, sensing the gravity of the situation.

"Go to my office," Tony instructed, "and hack into the main computer mainframe. I need you to retrieve all the recent data, especially anything related to weapons transactions."

"Well, I don't exactly have any hacking skills, per se," Arthur admitted, offering a helpless shrug. "I'm more familiar with, you know, playing games on computers, if I'm being honest..."

"Aren't you an agent of the Department of Defense?" Tony asked, looking at Arthur in genuine confusion. "Isn't hacking a basic skill for an agent these days?"

"I'm just a combat specialist, Tony, not a tech guy," Arthur explained sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "My training was more about taking things apart with my hands, not with code."

"Okay, fine. Use this then," Tony said, taking a small USB flash drive from a drawer and handing it to Arthur. "I've installed a specialized program on it. Just plug it into the main host computer, and it'll do the rest for you. It's foolproof."

"Why do you need all this information, Tony?" Pepper asked, her brow still furrowed with concern after his earlier revelation.

"I'm going to locate all their illicit weapons transactions and systematically destroy them, one by one," Tony declared, his voice firm and brimming with renewed determination. "Every single one of them."

"You still want to mess around with this?" Pepper suddenly became anxious, her voice rising with alarm. "Tony, you just got out of a terrifying situation! You could have died!"

"I'm not doing this for personal glory, Pepper, or for more money," Tony explained sincerely, his gaze unwavering as he looked at her. "I'm doing this to save those who are threatened and destroyed by the very weapons I created. That's what I truly want to do, more than anything else in the world."

"You will die for this, Tony," Pepper pleaded, her voice trembling, tears welling in her eyes. "You can't take any more risks. I can't lose you!"

"If I didn't have this newfound conviction, this belief, I would have died back in that cave, Pepper!" Tony countered, his voice filled with raw passion. "I haven't gone crazy, I swear; I've simply understood my true mission in life! My heart tells me that this is the absolute right thing to do, and you will support me, won't you?" Tony said, looking affectionately and intensely into Pepper's eyes, their gazes locking in a profound, shared moment.

"Oh, Tony," Pepper whispered, finally moved by his earnestness and unwavering resolve. "You have to know, you are my everything. I truly can't live without you! You absolutely must protect yourself out there!"

"Actually, it doesn't need to be quite so troublesome," Arthur interjected, breaking the emotional moment with a pragmatic suggestion. "We just need to gather the definitive evidence that Obadiah participated in your kidnapping, Tony, and then I'll apprehend him and take the company back from him directly. No need for all this elaborate searching for transactions."

"The kidnapping has something to do with Obadiah?" Pepper asked in utter disbelief, her eyes wide with shock. "Are you serious?"

"It definitely has something to do with him," Arthur stated, nodding affirmatively. "He's always had dealings with militant groups, especially the shady ones. He's been playing both sides for a long time."

"Okay then," Tony decided, his jaw setting with grim determination. "Let's find out the information about his transactions with those militants first. The files should be on my office computer, the ones you mentioned, Arthur. This task is entrusted to you."

"Why not just eliminate him directly?" Arthur asked, a pragmatic, almost cold, glint in his eye. "It would certainly be simpler."

"I need to find concrete evidence," Tony replied, shaking his head. "That way, I can provide a clear explanation to the shareholders and reclaim the company in a justifiable and legal manner. I can't just make him disappear; that's not how I operate, not anymore."

It wouldn't be such a hassle for me, Arthur thought, a private smirk playing on his lips. I could kill him with a snap of my fingers, and there would be no problems at all, no evidence needed. He wisely kept this thought to himself.

"I'm going too," Pepper announced firmly, stepping forward. "It'll be more convenient if I'm there to follow through and assist. I know the systems."

Tony considered this for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "Alright, but be careful, both of you."

Pepper and Arthur soon arrived at Tony's spacious, luxurious office on the top floor of Stark Corporation headquarters.

"Hurry up and find the information, Pepper, I'll keep watch!" Arthur instructed, his voice low and urgent.

Pepper immediately ran to the grand desk computer and inserted the USB flash drive, beginning to operate the system with practiced efficiency. Meanwhile, Arthur positioned himself near the door, keeping a vigilant eye out for any movement or unexpected visitors outside.

"Found it!" Pepper exclaimed happily, her voice hushed with excitement as she discovered the crucial files.

"Quick! Someone's coming! I'll hold him back!" Footsteps echoed from outside the door, growing steadily louder and more distinct.

Arthur, with no time to spare, quickly opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, coming face to face with none other than Obadiah Stane himself.

"What are you doing here, Arthur?" Obadiah asked, a questioning, slightly suspicious look on his face.

"I came to look for you, actually," Arthur quickly improvised, his mind racing to construct a plausible lie. "I just arrived at the office and found that you weren't here, so I was about to head back down."

"Oh? What can I do for you?" Obadiah inquired, a faint, almost imperceptible, flicker in his eyes, as if he sensed something was amiss.

"You asked me earlier to persuade Tony to give up on stopping weapons production, didn't you?" Arthur began, speaking noncommittally, trying to sound casual. "Well, Tony has recently seemed to loosen up a bit on that. He still believes the company's development is very important, even without weapons, so perhaps there's hope."

"Oh, really? Tony finally figured it out. That's fantastic," Obadiah replied, a wide, insincere smile spreading across his face. "I was beginning to worry Tony was being a bit too stubborn for his own good... By the way! I seem to have something else I urgently need to attend to. Please excuse me first." Obadiah offered a meaningful, almost triumphant, look, then quickly opened the door to his own office and walked away, seemingly dismissing Arthur and heading inside.

After Obadiah had departed and closed his office door, Arthur walked back into Tony's office. "It's all clear, Pepper, Obadiah has left. Do you have the information?" he asked.

"I found it! Come and take a look," Pepper said, her face pale with a mixture of shock and growing dread. She quickly played a video file on the computer. It was a disturbing video taken by militants after Tony's kidnapping, showing him in captivity, vulnerable and struggling. Alongside it were some detailed design files for the Iron Man armor, clearly stolen.

"Sure enough, it was Obadiah who orchestrated it," Pepper said, her voice filled with a mixture of anger and betrayal. "Well, now that we have irrefutable evidence, we can call the police and have him arrested immediately!"

"No need to call the police," Arthur assured her, patting his chest confidently. "I recognize him as a person of interest to S.H.I.E.L.D. We'll simply apprehend him ourselves and turn him over to them. Leave him to me!"

"I'll make a call first," Arthur gestured to Pepper, excusing himself for a moment as he stepped away to make a private call.

Arthur quickly dialed Coulson's phone number and updated him on the current situation, relaying the damning evidence they had found. Arthur then directly asked if Coulson wanted him to eliminate Obadiah directly. Coulson, however, emphasized that it would be best to capture him alive and hand him over to a military court for trial, stressing the importance of due process.

Arthur hung up the phone, a frustrated sigh escaping him. "What a nuisance," he muttered under his breath. If I just killed him, there would be no problems at all. But then, a sudden, chilling thought struck Arthur. He remembered Obadiah's expression just before he had left the office, a look that hinted at something more.

"Oh no! Tony is in danger!" Arthur exclaimed, his voice filled with sudden, intense anxiety as the pieces clicked into place. "We have to go back to the villa now!"

The two of them immediately raced out of the office and sped towards Tony's villa at the fastest possible speed, a palpable sense of dread hanging heavy in the air.
